Link now or link upon arrival?

We’re taking a family trip in November and there will be 3 families 9 people total. I don’t have everyone on my friends and family list on MDE, so we’re not linked.

I’m a bit discouraged by the really long wait times to call into Disney. Should I just bite the bullet and schedule 3 hours out of my day to be on hold to get it sorted out -OR - wait until we arrive and get it sorted out at the resort? Anyone know if the resort staff at checkin/guest services can do this?

(I’m basing this on the assumption that the hotel will be able to take care of it in a much more reasonable time)

The last few times I've called I was given the option to leave my number and Disney would call back. I've chosen that. The first time the message said the wait was over 160 minutes but my call back was less than an hour. Today the wait time was an hour but my call back was only a few minutes.

I'm also planning a family trip with four rooms. I called to have them linked.

By far better to do it in advance if you're hoping that linking them will get you assigned close together. It'll be much harder to do day-of.

I'm assuming you want a "traveling with" number associated with all the reservations. Unfortunately I think you'll have to call in to do that.

It is better to getting everyone connected on MDE before you go. Then you don't have to waste time fumbling with their app when you are there. Sometimes things are down or don't work reliably, so you have more time at home to try again tomorrow. When we were planning a multi-family trip back in 2019, some things on MDE worked for some of us but not others. We eventually gave up trying to figure it out and the Disney person we got on the phone was able to fix it so we could all be connected for things like ADR's, etc. You can waste a lot of time with the "try this/try that" approach and even the phone person couldn't say why we had issues but was able to resolve it for us. I can't think of any advantage to waiting until you are at Disney to try to do those things.

If each family has their own room, you can link by room reservation. After selecting 'Add a Guest', the second radio button is to 'Import from a WDW Resort hotel reservation.'. This option makes it very easy to add an entire family that is staying in their own room.

Is this only if families are staying at the same resort?

Can be any Disney owned & operated resort. Just need their room confirmation number and last name.
Ok thanks. Sorry to hijack the thread but hoping this will help the original poster too😉 . I can’t seem to figure out where to do this at. I’m trying to link my daughter’s res to mine. I got the message that it’s already linked to her when I tried to “link reservation”. And if I try “add a guest” to my reservation it reminds me I might need to change my room reservation to accommodate party size. Since I’m booked at Sports and haven’t heard where we will be moved to, I’m afraid to change it if this is the wrong step. Can you tell me where I should be finding the “add a guest” option?

You need to select "Add a Guest" from your "Family & Friends" list.

Are you just trying to connect as friends and family, so you can share plans/etc? Or if you're in the same resort, are you trying to get the reservations linked on the back end so the room assignors place you near each other?

We are staying at different resorts so mostly for planning purposes. Are we able to include each other’s family when making park reservations? Pretty sure we already can with dining, so that’s not a big issue.

If your lists are shared, you should be able to. First you need to "add a guest" and then connect to her. Once your connected to her, you want to "find through my connected guests" and add each guest.

Thanks for your help!
