I have used Magic Bands once before when my husband and I visited WDW in February of this year. We stayed at CBR and did everything online through My Disney Experience and our iPhone app.

We're currently planning another trip for November of next year, however this will be a trip of nine people (my side of the family), mostly financed by my parents, and we'll be staying off-site in a rental home.

My husband and I still want to use Magic Bands for our park passes, purchases in the park, and possibly Fastpass+ (we'll be going during a pretty slow time, but I still like having them to fall back on).

I know you can buy the Magic Bands beforehand on on disney.com and then link them to your separately purchased passes even if you're not staying on-site.

BUT! I really, really would love to be able to use one of the limited edition Haunted Mansion Magic Bands. I've found some on Ebay that I'm willing to pay the upsale price for, but...should I trust this? The listing says that the band is new in box, that box is sealed, and is link-it-later and can be linked to any account. Has anybody else done this before?

I can go with the band cover instead but it'd be totally cool to have this band since I'm a huge Haunted Mansion fan and wasn't able to get my hands on this before.

Thanks in advance!

Just a reminder that touch to pay only is available to onsite resort guests at this time.

You can order the HM band, and it may work, but you would be accepting a risk that it doesn't. I would make it a point to simply buy it first thing when you get to magic kingdom and not pay a premium!

Check out Your WDW Store. I know the HM bands are one of the ones that they sell. I personally would purchase from them rather than an eBay seller. Also, it's true that you can now purchase MB without immediately linking a ticket (exceptions are rare: MNSSHP and MVMCP bands, for example).

The limited edition bands are not - in my experience - linkable to another person. We found out the hard way with the Star Wars bands. I bought them with the intent of selling them later on ebay since they were so popular (evil, I know. But hey, a Florida girl sometimes needs to make a bit of money.) Anyway, they linked the band to mine (which I didn't want) and said that they had to link when I purchased them. Then I tried to unlink the band, and was told by IT that I wouldn't "wipe" the bands memory. Weird, I know, and totally my fault for not trying to by them "blank". I don't see why I couldn't buy a "blank band", after all, they were limiting them to 2 per person, and hey, what if I really had been buying them for my brother who lives in Chicago, or a friend in another state who liked Star Wars.

But no, you had to purchase those special bands in park and put them with your ticket then. It's rather foolish seeing as the band is merely a piece of plastic that "holds" the info rather than an actual "ticket". And you can buy tickets for others and (if you want, not that you should) jack up the price. Or simply buy a ticket for another person - no names or whatever security is required.

Point - I think you have to buy HM in park, you can't buy ahead of time, you can't have another person buy it for you, but they are currently plentiful in park so you shouldn't have any worries.

Plus - Disney tech sucks and everyone will probably think I'm rather evil for trying to sell MB on ebay. (we did actually sell to a collector with caveat that band would not work at all.)

Thank you, Mnrired, I was not aware that Touch to Pay was not available for offsite guests at this time.

Even without that option, my husband and I plan to stay onsite for future trips (looking into DVC as well) and I imagine I'll be re-using this band so I'm okay with the limited use options for this trip.

How have I not heard of Your WDW Store?! They do indeed have the HM bands. They are charging $10 more than the Ebay seller, but I'm willing to pay $10 more for peace of mind on this one. Thank you for the recommendation!

I was able to buy the hm mb. The cm ask me if I would like to link it to my ticket or not. I choose to link it then, so I would imagine you will have no problem buying them from a third party.
