Since it is so darn HOT and humid in Orlando this time of year I have a few questions.

1. Are the lines covered or out in the open?

2. Are there misters in the line to cool you?

3. Are there fans in the line to circulate the air?

4. Is there normally a breeze or is the air dead still?

5. How and where are the best places to get this FREE ice water I hear people talking about.

Thanks

Hi MickeyScooter!

I can not answer any of those questions as I have not been to WDW....first trip in a few days......but what I have learned from everyone else......

Buy a misting fan! I purchased mine from Wal-Mart..they have small, medium and large sizes. The large ones will hold regular sized ice cubes and are only $5.oo. They even have Lime Green!!

I hope someone else answers your other questions!

Have a great day!

1. Are the lines covered or out in the open?
Lines are covered, however, depending on how long the line is, it could be that you might have to be in the sun for a little while. We haven't had any particular problems, though!

2. Are there misters in the line to cool you? There are fans in the lines. You may buy your own personal mister at any of the souvenier kiosks. They work very well, and we wouldn't go to a park with it.

3. Are there fans in the line to circulate the air? yes, they are very large and circulate a great deal of air. They do a wonderful job!

4. Is there normally a breeze or is the air dead still? Depends on the day and the time. Sometimes there are breezes, sometimes not. You could have a breeze in the morning, still air in the afternoon and a breeze in the evening. There really is no way to gauge it.

5. How and where are the best places to get this FREE ice water I hear people talking about.-- go to the food and beverage kiosks and ask.

Also, you might want to jump into one of the interactive fountains before jumping in line. It is also a good way to stay cool.

You will find them at Epcot, near Mission Space and Test Track, as well as on the pathway from Future World to World Showcase. Also, if the wind is blowing right, you can get wet standing near the large fountain in Future World.

At MGM, visit the "Singing in the Rain" lightpost off of New York St.

At Animal Kingdom, there are showers you can stand under outside of the Dawa Bar.

And there is Ariel's Grotto in MK.

If you are in Downtown Disney, don't miss the large fountain outside of the new Toy Shop.

There are also the neck cooler sold at many of the kiosks for a very reasonable price, that helps immensely. You can get free ice for these, as well.

Make sure to drink plenty of water, wear light colored, loose fitting, cotton clothing, use your sunscreen often, use your bug repellent-- especially in the evenings, and try to take a break in the middle, hot part of the day.

Have a GREAT vacation!:)

Great post!!! I would also like to add, please, be careful where you aim the mister, some people don't like being misted, I am one of them. :)

You can also cool off in Tomorrowland in MK. There is a mister close to some of the kiosks. I think it's close Buzz and Space Mtn.

If you want to cool off AND be adventurous, go to Epcot and try different soft drinks from around the world. It's called the Cool Station or something like that. You'll see it over by Innovations West. If memory serves correct, there is a mister AND cool air coming from this little spot.

We just returned July 3rd. Aerial's Grotto in MK no longer has an interactive fountain:(

The giant mister in Tomorrowland is up and running though.:Pinkbounc

One person mentioned bug repellent - Are there really mosquitos?

I Have never seen anyone mention bugs before.

I noticed bug bites in the evening in early July. I assume they were mosquitos. I never really felt being bitten, but sure enough the bites were there later that night. A Florida native specifically mentioned "twilight" as the bad time for the bug bites.

One word of caution on the misting fans. If you use them make sure to reapply your sunscreen often. Even waterproof sunscreen will rinse off much more quickly. Also being contantly damp makes it much more difficult to tell if you are getting sunburned. So yes, use misting fans they are great, but pay attention to the sunscreen, especially with the kids!!!

Great post!!! I would also like to add, please, be careful where you aim the mister, some people don't like being misted, I am one of them.

Me too. Please look at your surroundings before misting. I've had expensive camera equipment out when someone has inadvertently "blasted" me with their mister. I was really Po'ed when a couple of cast members decided I should be misted. Thankfully my camera wasn't ruined. I recall someone saying they had hearing aids and the misting could damage them.

I would look into getting the small hand held fans - They are a life saver - I got mine for 2.99 at Bed Bath & beyond two summers ago when I was going to china (upper 90's with humidity it felt like well into the 100's)

They are perfect for places like disney - they usually come with a string and they are about the size of the palm of your hand and you can hang them around your neck. Much easier than trying to carry those water fans which get in your way - these hang around your neck and you can forget about them when you aren't using them

i would also suggest if your in Epcot there is the coke station i don't know how to describe were it is i am sure someone can but if you find it its a great cold spot as you enter you can b lucky enough to get "snowed" on and at the end they have stations were your can taste soft drinks from around the world. very cool
hope it helps

A locals tip, intermix rides with shows to help keep your body temp down. If you are so uncomfortable at 1:00 PM, you should consider going someplace for a break. If you are staying at a WDW resort, return there. The heat kicks in at 1:00 PM and builds to 4-5:00 PM

Keep your mister off me as I am use to the heat and don't need your help. You should down a lot of water the day before you hit the parks and plan a"Resort Day" where you just hang out at the Resort.

Well - Almost everything everyone post was true.

It was hot and humid - It would cloud up in the afternoon and rain a little - no downpours.

I DID NOT use a mister. So if you were misted - It wasn't me.

Having now returned from a JULY at WDW - I would say that there are 3 things that kept me cool.

1. My Dri-Star shirt that wicked the moisture from my body. It was only $9.00 at Walmart. While my friends were lugging around in their cotton shirts soaked to their bodies - I was enjoying my Dri-Star shirt.

2. Instead of wearing cotton shorts with underwear. I optioned for swimtrunks with a liner. It was GREAT.

3. I wore my Tevas instead of sneakers. It was great in 2 ways - It kept my feet dry in 2 ways- 1st of all my feet weren't sweating in my sneakers and 2nd - When it rained - I wasn't walking around in soggy sneakers.

Just thought I pass along what I learned during my stay.

Sincerely
Mickey Scooter
