Line Jumping?

So let me see... a family of three... Josephine, Joe, and Joe Jr. want to ride Dumbo. Josephine and Jo Jr get in line together, Joe lets 24 people get in line then he gets in line.

Steven and his daughter Stephanie get in line behind Joe Sr. Josephine & Jo Jr ride, then on the way out of the ride, Josephine hands Jr. to Joe Sr. Stephanie being the little inquisitive child, says "Mommy, why does that boy get to ride twice and I haven't ridden once?" Do I have this "unfairness" right?

Let's change this up a little bit... Josephine & Joe Sr actually have another child Jasmine. All three want to ride BTMRR. Joe Jr. is too little. Being the savy guests, they get FPs for BTMRR and go do something else (ride Dumbo?:rotfl:). Meanwhile, Steven & Stephanie get in the standby line.

The FP return time comes up and Josephine, Joe Sr, Jasmine and Joe Jr go to
the FP return and ask for a baby swap pass. Josephine & Jasmine go through
the FP line and get seen by Stephanie (it must be the matching Disney shirts
). Josephine & Jasmine ride, exit, then Joe Sr goes through the FP
line with Jasmine. Stephanie is almost to the loading spot and sees the
matching shirts again. "Mommy, why does that girl get to ride twice and I
haven't ridden once?"

Also... there are two food carts... one for popcorn & one for Dole Whips. A
couple love both. One gets in the popcorn line & buys two popcorns. The
other gets in the dole whip line and buys two Dole Whips. Someone gives
them a dirty look when they get together... "families should wait in lines
together!":lmao:

Your scenario would be a good contender for the "Who's on First" routine. :lmao:
You do bring up a good point, which is that a single parent with a small child cannot take advantage of the rider swap option like a 2 parent family can. I think you've got a valid point and should therefore immediately bring this to the attention to the powers that be at WDW. popcorn::

But then I was reading unofficial guide and in the tourguide for kids that love dumbo it says to have one parent get in line 24 people behind first parent and hand off the kid after first ride.

Just wondering how everyone feels about this.

Isn't this essentially doing a baby swap? Both parents are 'doing their time' standing in line. As PP have pointed out no child is loosing a chance to ride because they won't stick someone's child with a stranger. The fact that the child gets to ride twice is the same as when there is an older child involved in a baby swap. The older kids gets to ride twice while the parents take turns.

This is a family park. The fact that Dumbo doesn't have room for three does not mean mom should have to wait to enter the line until dad is off.

LOL!

And I think Disney should stop sending out PIN codes since I don't ever get one!

:rotfl:

yeah! what about that! that's not fair either. I never get a pin code and there's a whole board of people who have gotten 10 or 20.

On the point about it not being fair for the kid to get to ride twice without waiting in line twice, would it make any difference to look at things a little differently? Maybe it's the parents driving the bus. Does that make things different?

Picture it: Three-person family, on their first Disney trip, looking to wring out every possible magical memory. As they approach Dumbo, mom says "ok, I'll sit with our little angel. You can ride behind us."

Dad says "Wait, what? I thought I was going to ride with snookums, and you'd ride behind."

So they decide that the only fair thing to do is for each of them to take turns riding right next to the kid, so that each one gets the exact same magical memory. Mom and baby get in line, dad waits 20-odd people then also gets in line. They all wait, but not exactly together. Each adult gets one ride with his/her favorite little accessory, and junior incidentally gets two rides.

Seems fair to me. ;)

This is actually the scenario I had pictured in my head, LOL. Just because my DH is an idiotic Mickey hating b*st*rd who waits for the Epcot ball to be blown away in the next hurricane, doesn't mean there are NOT a LOT of Disney loving dads would who just love to share this experience with their child!!!!!

As far as the potty issue, we had serious issues with DD when she was young. She would have to go in an instant and we would have literally less than about 2 to 3 minutes to get her to a bathroom. I think my friend or son had to hold our spot a few times - but they could always see us taking off on a DEAD RUN for the restrooms - so they knew we had been in line.

Poor Stephanie:sad1: If she had parents that were smart and hung out with us DISers, she too could have been back at the pool by noon instead of standing in line at her 2nd ride for the day.
If our kids only knew how good they had it!!!:rotfl:

am I allowed to giggle at the flame proof suit??

Yes, just don't try to steal it! :lmao:

OMG A KINDRED SPIRIT!!!!!!

I just....I mean.....

I never thought this day would come. Is there a tear wiping emotcon?

I want to thank all those who made it possible...my mother and father..God in heaven ....my 2nd grade teacher...my agent....

This post makes me glad I spoke up.

...is that how do I know, by looking at a line that there are 20 invisible riders in it ...
Does any of that make sense???? it made sense in my head.

Kirsten (who understood all you were saying, smiley faces and all :goodvibes)

And how do you know that the ride isn't going to shut down? how do you know if there is going to be multiple times the ride is slowed, or not started right away to allow someone more time to get on? Or a MAW kid with a front of the line pass? Or all three? Or even, if a family of 10 decides they can't stand another min in line, and they all leave?

You don't. That is the point, you *never* really know how much time a line will take. You can not judge a book by it's cover.

But, as I said, I understand how emotional this subject can be.

Quite honestly, I don't really care, we don't even ride Dumbo most of the time. Unless I'm paying attention, how do I know if your kid needed a legitimate bathroom break or if he's just being put back in line for ride number two without waiting while many other kids with fascination in their eyes are waiting in the hot sun for their first ride. You do what you gotta do!! ;)

I guess if you're a family of 4 or 6 you don't get to take advantage of that little perk!! :scratchin

Is it really going to ruin your trip if one parent has to sit in the elephant in front of you and takes some really great pics of you and shortie that you can all look back on??
OMG  for a whole minute you might have to sit next to a perfect stranger whose just having fun at WDW too!! :woohoo:

I'll comment on this... I've read through most of the posts..

I worked a couple seasons as a Ride Operator at a non-Disney park.
Our Line Jumping policy essentially gave us enough power to decline ridership to anybody that we chose to, but at the same time let us use our personal judgement.

Generally speaking, it was pretty simple - if it was a small child that had to use the washroom, we didn't kick them off the ride. If it was a group of guests trying to join their friends at the front of the line, those that jumped the line would not be allowed to ride - and if they gave us attitude about it, then the entire group (including those in the group that had waited in the line) would not be allowed to ride.

In terms of the parent waiting in line scenario -

If the second parent was waiting with a second child that didn't want to or could not ride, we would let the first child go on the ride again with the first parent - simply so the first parent wouldn't have to watch both children while the second parent went on the ride.

However, if the second parent was not waiting with another child, and simply tried to wait X amount of people behind in line, that would not work as we would instead match the second parent with another single rider - in order to keep the line moving as fast as possible.

Doing it this way allowed our ride to be one of the highest in the park in terms of Capacity ratings (which was basically Total Seats Per Hour minus Empty Seats) - on our ride, getting 19 rides per hour instead of the targeted 18 allowed us to get almost 30 extra people through the line per hour, or 360 extra guests on the ride per day. Having just 2 empty seats per ride would have the same effect on the line as sending one train empty each hour.

corster, wow you're up late like I! Anyway the point is... the kid is put back into line with the other parent before they get to the ride! Whereas other kids are still waiting for thier first ride. :sad2:

If they put you next to a stranger, that would change this entire thread. But they will not put a stranger next to you on Dumbo..they will just leave the seat next to you empty...hence this thread. I guess two strangers could get together and ask to be put together...but that doesn't seem realistic.

Corster..they do not put single riders together on Dumbo...they simply do not do that...I guess they may have tried it at some point, but found that they didn't have enough families of 3 to put 2 parents together in one dumbo while the other parents were with their kids...
They can't put two young kids together...they have to be at least 7 to ride alone....so, that's really what this thread boils down too...did your park have a little kid ride that teenagers didn't want to go on? What did you do to match up an empty seat? Who did you put next to that parent? Someone else's child?

Though I see now that the Bubba chuck likely doesn't actually affect others' wait times, most people won't know this. The strategy has the appearance of impropriety to people who are standing in line waiting to ride behind Bubba and his parents. With two kids, it's not a strategy we would use anyway, but even if it made sense for us, don't think I'd do it and risk angering someone else behind me.

So I don't think it's wrong, I just think it's not worth it.

I think this topic has been exhusted twice in two days. I'm closing this now. Thanks Rich
