Lauren- how could you sell me out so quickly? :)

I was figuring this out while you were typing!!!

I really need to understand my own quotes better. The Steelers, they're a baseball team, right? No, I gotta fix some things.... ;)

Sorry, I'm :offtopic:.

I crave a queue utopia where all waiting is done without having to stand in line.

I am 100% ok with waiting my turn. I just don't like the line. Unless it's the new Pooh queue, or SM or probably HM (haven't seen that one yet)

IIRC, shortly after my last visit in Oct 09, there was talk of testing a new system on certain popular rides. You would come up and get issued a numbered wrist band and an estimate of when you could ride. People would be boarded in groups of 5 or 10. There would be an electronic board up that would list the group currently boarding and estimated wait times for the next 4 or 5 groups. If your estimate was an hour, you could go off and shop do something, then come back 10-15 min before your estimated time. You could sit in the shade until your group was ready to board, then you walked up and got on.

It does not seem to have lasted, if it was ever implemented at all. Of course, I can see all kinds of problems. For example, what if people decided not to come back? Then your hour wait could be 1/2 hour and you would come back to find you should have boarded 15 min ago. Then what?

Same thing can be said for Rider Swaps...Joey gets to ride with his Mom while Dad watches the baby, then Joey gets to ride with Dad while Mom watches the baby....
Either I accept that they have a family make up that allows for this and I don't, or I rent a baby.....

:rotfl2: Can't have mine! I need her for rider swaps! :)

We're going to be taking advantage of this option when we go in a couple months with DD (turning 1 in the park) and DS (13). I figure it will probably balance out because while DS gets to ride things twice, we'll also have to take extra breaks and head back to the hotel early at night.

I would not "Dumbo Drop" personally because I don't like the example it sets for the kid. It is too similar to "strategies" that ARE unfair and discourteous to others for small kids to distinguish and I'd rather err on the side of setting an extra good example at Disney.

Thank goodness, I thought the thread was about to go west. Back to your regularly scheduled programme.

Are you thinking of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster over at the Studios? They tried something like this for a couple of days, about that time IIRC. I believe the consensus is that was a test case for the riderless queue concepts that are beginning to show up at some attractions: Pooh, HM, and (eventually) Double-Dumbo come to mind....

I never post on these types of heated discussions. But I have to this time. :rotfl2:

Ok, TECHNICALLY, it does not lengthen anybody's wait time. However, it is slightly ANNOYING! Here's why I think it can be annoying:

Little Johnny rides with Mom. Dad is in line already..

Annoying scenario #1: Dad gets to the front of the line before Mom can hand off little Johnny b/c Johhny was soooo excited by the first ride that now he needs a potty break. Or something. So now others have to go around Daddy until he has possession of little Johnny. That's annoying to me (and probably to dad too!). Even though it does not technically lengthen anybody's ride time, it just is a little annoying.

Annoying scenario #2: Daddy is in a spot in line where little Johnny can't be easily lifted over the railing to Dad. So Mom has to physically walk through the line to get him to Daddy. Again, that is a little annoying. Not WRONG technically, just annoying.

I DONT get upset when kids need potty breaks and need to leave the line and get back into line again. Heck, I have kids and understand that when they have to go, THEY HAVE TO GO! However, I personally think families should try to wait together. I enjoy that time with my family. If we want to go on a ride twice, we all wait together twice. Life is tooooo hectic to be worrying about chucking bubba, jetting johnny, or whatever they call it. Slow down a little. If Johnny HAS to ride twice, do it again later.

P.S. I paid alot of $$ for my trip too! :goodvibes We are park-commandos and have it down to a science to be able to ride most rides multiple times a day without these gimmicks. However, our only personal rule is wait as a family. No hand-offs! Its technically ok that others do it, as it usually doesnt REALLY affect anybody's wait time, its just annoying to me! Not much will seriously make me upset because I am at DISNEY WORLD. But I do find some things slightly annoying.

We wait with our kids as well, but we know we will be back in future years so we don't have to fit it all in and ride, ride, ride the one ride. some people however don't have the same opportunties, if this helps them get more out of their trip, saving a tantrum from a 2 year old over wanting to ride again then so be it.

They can build that in to the total wait time posted so there are no surprises. Problem solved.

Now if I could just figure out how to avoid the pushing/jostling.....

How about on Soarin'...they install a pit road queue next to the main queue..right along side it...for people leaving and joinging their parties in the actual queue..it's wide enough right? this could work.....

......To dreammmmm the impossible dreammmmm.....:rolleyes1

now if the system could be set up so that my time is not extended I am all for the Qless system. One of the things I like about Disney is they trick me into thinking I have a long wait and it never seems as long as the posted times. Hubby is always asked when he tells me how many mins until we get somewhere - is that Disney time or normal time.

Ahhh....I guess I didn't get it!! I thought you were saying he was a son of something else! Couldn't figure out why since Mesa didn't say anything bad..
I'm so sorry!

There's a simple solution here.

Disney just needs to set up a "Daddy Pen" at Dumbo.

When Moms get off with son or daughter, Daddy is called in from the "Daddy Pen" to ride with son or daughter.

Son or daughter wouldn't even need to get out of the Dumbo they are currently in.

Mom gets out, Daddy gets in.

I'm applying for a job at Disney.

Problem solved.

Your welcome.

;)

Reading the boards the last couple of days makes me think that we must have a lot of spring breaking kids hanging around here this week.

Do you say "go west" instead of "go south" because of your NZ roots? I.e. You are already so far south?

Because that would be :cool2:

LOL never thought of it that way, maybe that is why. Not much South from us. I usually say Go West, turn to custard or pear shaped. Needless to say some people in the UK have no idea what I am talking about. My hubby most of the time, but I suspect he just does that to get some peace and quiet. ;)

Yes, testing for qless.

Not sure how all the nuances will be handled, but it's coming because it is so much better than shuffling in a q. For everyone!

I guess my view is: if Disney created a policy called Rider Swap, then I'm going to take advantage of it since I just happen to have a 3 year old who certainly qualifies. If someone has issues or is "annoyed" by policies created by WDW for small children.... why aren't they going to Universal, Six Flags, or another of the parks more oriented toward adults? :confused3 To quote Forrest Gump's mother, "Sometimes people do things that just don't make no sense."

Same thing can be said for Rider Swaps...Joey gets to ride with his Mom while Dad watches the baby, then Joey gets to ride with Dad while Mom watches the baby....
Either I accept that they have a family make up that allows for this and I don't, or I rent a baby.....

Same thing can be said for the kids in the projects with no real parents that never get to go to DW in the first place.

Life ain't "fair".

So skinny people have to sit 3 in a car while pooh size people can ride 2 in a car? LOL, ok, let's discuss this aspect......

well, I cannot be responsible for how many dole whips people eat. That IS a whole different thread. LOL.

So let me see... a family of three... Josephine, Joe, and Joe Jr. want to ride Dumbo. Josephine and Jo Jr get in line together, Joe lets 24 people get in line then he gets in line.

Steven and his daughter Stephanie get in line behind Joe Sr. Josephine & Jo Jr ride, then on the way out of the ride, Josephine hands Jr. to Joe Sr. Stephanie being the little inquisitive child, says "Mommy, why does that boy get to ride twice and I haven't ridden once?" Do I have this "unfairness" right?

Let's change this up a little bit... Josephine & Joe Sr actually have another child Jasmine. All three want to ride BTMRR. Joe Jr. is too little. Being the savy guests, they get FPs for BTMRR and go do something else (ride Dumbo?:rotfl:). Meanwhile, Steven & Stephanie get in the standby line.

The FP return time comes up and Josephine, Joe Sr, Jasmine and Joe Jr go to the FP return and ask for a baby swap pass. Josephine & Jasmine go through the FP line and get seen by Stephanie (it must be the matching Disney shirts ). Josephine & Jasmine ride, exit, then Joe Sr goes through the FP line with Jasmine. Stephanie is almost to the loading spot and sees the matching shirts again. "Mommy, why does that girl get to ride twice and I haven't ridden once?"

Also... there are two food carts... one for popcorn & one for Dole Whips. A couple love both. One gets in the popcorn line & buys two popcorns. The other gets in the dole whip line and buys two Dole Whips. Someone gives them a dirty look when they get together... "families should wait in lines together!":lmao:

I think you have the full picture. It's really not fair...none of it. :rolleyes1
I think Disney should just get rid of Fast Passes and Rider Swaps (and Dole Whips and Popcorn as long as we're at it)...then everything will always look fair.

And I think Disney should stop sending out PIN codes since I don't ever get one!
