Line Etiquette - requesting a specific row

In prior trips (last one in March 2011) we have occasionally asked to wait for 'front row' in rides like Soaring. At the time, I had read on the boards it was okay to make this request. Is it still okay to do this?

Yes, you can make that request. But be prepared to wait until the next ride cycle in most cases.

This shouldn't be much of an issue, just understand that sometimes you might have to wait for the next round.

I request specific rows for RnR and TT, because I'm tall and some parts of the vehicle don't have enough leg room. I've never had a problem with a request like that!

Absolutely!

I want to make sure I ride front row at Soarin at least once per trip.

I say something like "Is it OK if I wait for row 1?" That way, the cast member knows that I am willing to wait for my request to be fulfilled.

I don't think there would be a problem in doing this for any ride, as long as you're willing to wait.

I agree. Also, it doesn't make anyone else wait longer to get on the ride. Someone else will get to ride a bit sooner.

I've done it. I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as you are willing to wait.

yes - of course we are willing to wait for the next cycle. Just don't want to step on any toes or get the CMs upset.

I'm sure someone will come along and tell you how unethical this is, there's always someone who finds something wrong with something, but as long as the CM says it's fine there's no reason not to do that. Like other people said, as long as you're prepared to wait there shouldn't be a problem.

We ask almost every ride, and have never had anything but a happy response from the CMs working the ride.

Yep! I did this for Everest. A word of caution- you cannot ask for front in single rider line at Everest. (At least, you couldn't when I tried in February.) You need to go through the standby line with everyone else.

You can, and I very infrequently do, but I also try to remember that it makes the group/load CM's jobs just a little bit harder, so I don't do it often. You aren't inconveniencing any guests, though.

We do this a lot esp. on EE since we are a family of six and want the whole family in one car so we are all in one picture. We have only had one CM that kinda rolled her eyes at us, but that may have been because this was our 5 time riding in row (although our first asking to ride together-had to figure out what we wanted to do for pictures first!).

I am a "B1" rider when it comes to Soarin...nothing else will do... and we just wait to the side as the CMs fill the ride and wait for the next group. The CM's understand and accommodate.

Well I could see how another guest could be upset. You count up the rows as you are standing in line, get excited that you will be in front and then someone stands by for the front and messes it up. I always feel a pang of guilt making this request. It would never have occurred to me to make it had I not read about it on the DIS boards. But now with FP+ resulting in fewer repeats, I feel torn about not making the request for our likely one ride.

My daughter asked for front row on EE on our last trip and it was not a problem but when she asked on a different ride was told "nope, we can't hold up the line that way." So I think it must depend on the ride and the CM working that line.

There is a special line for front row on EE and RNRC and a place to wait for front row on Space Mountain. It's not a problem for those rides at all. I only ride in the last seat on Big Thunder (it is the best row and has extra leg room). I request it and even though it is tight in the area. It is easy to wait. The only way to get the last seat for sure on big thunder is to use the left line as the right line has the handicapped line filling the last car.

There is nothing wrong with requesting front row (as stated, some attractions have their own line for this) and waiting for the next run.

Personally I just let it to chance. I have ridden B1 at Soarin and I will again when chance lets me but if I get A3 I'm OK. Someone has to sit in the back rows. I don't want to hog the front row every time. This is just me, however.

I always and I mean always ask for first row. I've never ridden Soarin' anywhere else besides B1 nor RnRC anywhere but the front row. Everest is an exception because I like to ride front and last row so I switch up what I ask for. Even for the Safari we ask to wait for the next car so we can be closest to the 'window' and have a better view of the animals.

Never had a problem with it anywhere.

If one is willing to wait for the front row, how is that hogging it?

We always ask for 1ST row center and are willing to wait for it. Best seats in the house! :thumbsup2

If you are talking about Soarin, you really can't do that. For example if there is a party of 8 and only 5 seats in the next row, they will tell them to go to the next section. You would not know by counting how many people are in each party and how they will be seated.
