I'm planning to upgrade my hopper ticket through the app after I enter the park for magic morning. I understand that I'll have to go back to the ticket booth at some point to pick up the card, but in the meantime, can I get fastpasses and dining discounts with my new AP on my phone app? I'm planning to upgrade to a flex pass, if that makes any difference.

We’ve had a couple horror stories of people who upgraded through the app so I can’t recommend that. Last one the person was charged full price for the AP and had to spend a lengthy time trying to sort it out at the ticket booth.

You can only get fastpasses using your phone if you have Maxpass. Maxpass is not included with the flex pass but can be purchased as an add-on. I do not know if that can be done in-app since the last time I added Maxpass to an annual pass was before you could buy or upgrade to annual passes in-app. If Maxpass can be added at time of upgrade, then I would think it would start working immediately. Dining discounts for in-person orders can only be obtained by presenting the physical AP to the cashier, so the only dining discounts you would get prior to having the physical pass would be for mobile orders. Finally, there is another thread about the flex pass talking about some difficulties with the upgrade process. One issue is that if you upgrade in-park, you are not able to exit and re-enter that park unless you have secured a reservation for that day. If you choose to upgrade before the end of your day, you need to make sure that reservations are still available and that you book one for that day immediately after you upgrade.

I've been reading along in the thread for the flex pass, so I'm aware of those issues and have a plan (in hopes to avoid them), but I was hoping there would be other people with different APs that have upgraded through the app in the last few months and could share their experiences. Especially if you can add MP to your AP through the app, I had assumed you could.

I could've sworn when I had a signature AP 2 years ago, I could show my digital card for dining? Maybe I was just doing that for FP (I had MP).

I upgraded my ticket to a Flex Pass through the app. I was able to add Maxpass for the year to the AP at the time of purchase. You have to have the physical pass to get discounts on food and merch, unless mobile ordering food.

I've had APS for the last 12 years, usually signature or signature plus, and even after the app came into use cashiers have always required both the physical card and a picture i.d. when getting discounts. I remember when the Disneyland site used to note in writing that you still had to bring the physical card with you for discounts, but I can no longer find that wording. If I don't need to carry the physical card anymore, that would be great to know.

If I can piggyback on this thread, am I correct that you still cannot pay with a gift card through the app? We're also considering upgrading to the FlexPass from a 3-day hopper after using our Magic Morning (and ensuring that there is reservation availability for the day), but I'm planning to pay for the upgrade with gift cards purchased through Target at a discount. And if I can't do it from the app, is it possible to do it from the full website on my phone?

You cannot use gift cards through the app. I believe you can do it from the full website via your phone (never tried via phone but I don’t see why not). However you need to combine multiple gift cards into one. There is a place to do so online (I think the website is on the card)?

As mentioned you will need the physical card for food and merch discounts but there is an exception. If you mobile order food through the app your AP discount will be applied. So if you mobile ordered all your food between the time you upgraded and when you picked up your physical card then you would still be able to take advantage of the discount.

When I upgraded DD's ticket to a Flex Pass I was given the option to purchase with or without MP in the app.

Anyone know if I upgrade in the app, will I be able to get a DAS for my kid or do I need the physical card? I'm pretty sure they scanned our APs from my phone 2 years ago. Does the app give you an immediate AP qr code to start using?
