We are now heading on a quick trip to WDW for 3 days at the end of January, and needless to say we have options, but not the ones we were hoping for. Staying at the contemporary

I will be traveling with my 7 year old, 2 year old (food allergies), Dad and his wife.

This is what's available for dinner while we are there:

1. Whispering Canyon
2. The Wave
3. Trails' End
4. Kona
5. Grand floridian

Which 3 would you do for dinner? I'm hoping for Chef's Mickey at one point-maybe brunch instead? or 1900 park fare, or crystal palace. (kids love characters).

1. I would do Wave (since staying at Contemporary)

2. Kona (since it's neat to see the Poly and easy to get to)

3. Eh- I would check the menus of remaining and see what appeals most to your family.

Trails End will be an over the top positive in terms of how they handle food allergies (assuming you eat when Chef TJ is working). 2nd choice would be GFC, 3rd WCC. I have not eaten at the Wave, however. My DH never likes the look of that menu, for some reason. We prefer Kona for breakfast. We have had great experiences with kids those exact ages (plus a 10 year old) at the 3 I mentioned in the last year. Personally, none of the other places you mentioned would make it on my short list. (Your top choices). The only other suggestion I would make is consider HDDR.

The Wave is a hidden gem in my opinion. I would go there :) my husband has a serious allergy and the chef came out and talked to him and they made him his own special dessert cause he couldn't have anything on the menu. The Wave is great- good food and good service!

1. Whispering Canyon
2. The Wave
3. Trails' End
4. Kona
5. Grand floridian
For dinner, my choices would be The Wave, Kona and Grand Fl. Cafe.
For good breakfasts if time allows, The Wave, Kona, Trails End and Whispering Canyon.
I know you feel like you are getting skunked on not having as many choices, but the places listed are really good and amongst our favorites. WCC is the only one we arent crazy about

1. The Wave - we had a very good dinner here and since it is in your resort it will be the easiest to get to

Whispering Canyon Cafe is good but a little harder to get to than the monorail resort restaurants. Trails End is a buffet and it used to be one of our favorites. But the last time we went there we were really disappointed, so I would skip this one. And it is tricky to get to it for dinner since the Hoop Dee Doo crowd fills the boats and buses.

Keep checking for available restaurants. They seem to start opening up as you get closer to your trip date. I searched endlessly for a Tusker House to open up and it finally did about four days before our date. :)

Also, keep looking. People do cancel at 24-48 hours. I would book these options but know you might be able to change. It is not surprising that CP or Cm is not available 30 days out, though!

Every single restaurant you listed is better than Chef Mickey. Having characters is not worth the cost combined with the poor quality of food IMO. If you want good food and characters I recommend Tusker House. I have never NOT been able to just walk up and get seated there.

The Wave is a great restaurant. I eat there at least once on almost every trip and have never been disappointed. Kona is also excellent and Whispering Canyon, while nothing special, has decent quality food and a nice laid back feel. Trails End is one of the best values you'll find on property.

I want to second the comments about not giving up! I just looked at CP for 5 for the next few days and you could get:
Breakfast TODAY, tomorrow and Saturday (looks to me like this would even be pre-park opening)
Lunch Thursday
even supper a few times (late but still there!)

So make some "fall backs" and then just start stalking the reservations .. not obsessively but whenever you get a chance ... even check the day of!! People drop ADR's now that you get docked for not showing up. Have a wonderful time. We're leaving in about 15 days and this trip wasn't planned until the 20th of November .. I was able to get every ADR we wanted, including a pre-park BOG!!

We love The Wave-I'd had some amazingly delicious dinners there and think it is very underrated. The chicken entrée is TDF! We have dinner there every trip-it is a good break from MK on late nights. Kona is also very good-they have a great menu with lots of tasty options-I recommend the crab cakes and sticky wings for apps and steak entrée. I am looking forward to trying their new lamb chops during our next trip. They also have a fantastic breakfast which we go to twice a trip even though we stay at BC CL with breakfast included-LOL.

What days are you going? I have a dinner for 7 at BOG on the 23rd that I am 99% sure I am going to cancel.

Thanks so much! We are supposed to go January 27th-30th but the trip might not happen now. :pout: We (kids and I) could only pretty much go if my Dad and his wife go and they are on the fence.

Oh, and my Dad commented-we can discuss it at Christmas, and I'm feeling anxious to book reservations!
