Limited availablity for military discount...

Anyone have any guesses why there is limited availability this year for the military room discounts? I called 10 minutes after the renewal was announced and I couldn't find anything available in the MK area except for CL at the Poly. We're traveling in November and I really wasn't prepared for this! I had no problems last year...

That happened to us the second year we used it! I just booked one of the rooms they had and then kept calling back until something else opened up.

So rooms can eventually open up? I'm going to keep calling back but I was just starting to feel like I am wasting my time. I called as soon as it was renewed and everything was gone...it made me think there were never any available in the first place.

My friend was finally able to hold long enough last night to get a real person and the only thing they could offer her for late October was a cabin at FW. I would keep trying. I was calling every day for weeks in May trying to switch resorts for June and the only thing they had available was SSR and AKL (hubby was not keen on either). Then magically one day something opened at the BC. So you never know. Good luck!

I know the military discount is not tied to Disney wanting to fill rooms, but I think it still figures in. If resorts are pretty much full/filling, then they may not open that resort to the military discount until much closer to the actual date. And since free dining has been in play for so long, I imagine many resorts are already pretty booked for this fall.

I'd say wait until the 7 day holds have expired and try calling back, but there is very limited availability for October and November. I think between F&W and the room only discount and the free dining discount, Disney just didn't NEED to offer many military rate rooms for that time frame.

Yea its unfortunate because I really wasn't expecting this to happen. I didn't even try for free dining because I just assumed we would get the military discount...BIG mistake!! I called right after room only discounts were released and nothing available for our dates with that either. We're currently booked at WL and they seem pretty full despite the pool closure. I will try back in a few more days to see if anything changed as far as the military discounts...thanks!

We are staying Nov. 30-Dec. 6th, and the only thing available at the Wilderness Lodge for my dates were the courtyard view bunk bed rooms. I called as soon as i heard. Pretty disappointed was hoping for club level, but will keep trying.

I would agree with other posters about resorts being pretty full already due to other discounts Disney has offered. I called first thing the morning the discount was announced last year for a Nov. date, and there was nothing available for CSR, and we ended up going with AKL and loved it, so it worked out. In the past we had not had problems with availability for fall, but that was before all of the other offers.
Stuff does open up though and people change their minds and plans, so keep trying. I called the day after it opened this year just to get some prices for Jan. and Feb. When I decided to book two day after that, another room category had opened that wasn't available two days before, which is what I had wanted. Maybe you'll end up at a different resort and it will work out well for your family anyway! Good luck!
