A friend told us that some attractions are closed during the winter. Is this true? What about the rides that involve getting wet?

Most of the "wet" rides, like Splash Mt. and Kali River Rapids close during the off seasons, which is basically winter, for refurbs. The water damages the rides easily, so there are a lot of repairs to be done. Check the maps at WDW to see what rides are down.

Since WDW is a year-round resort, they do tend to use the Winter to rehab attractions needing such attention. One year, in January, I remember there being three, out of the sixty or so, major attractions closed for rehab.

As far as I can tell, Kali River Rapids won't be down for rehab at all, and Splash Mountain will only be down for a few days, this year.

It has nothing to do with being wet. All rides need rehabs from time to time. Winter is a great time to do this because ofthe low crowds.

:( I just checked the rehab schedule and saw that Buzz Lightyear is down until 2/8. We will be in the parks 2/3-2/4 and 2/9-2/10. I had not planned on being in the MK on the 9th or 10th but I may have to shift some things around. Buzz is one of the rides I really want to ride with DS.

We usually go in the winter and there are always 1-3 attractions closed for rehab - it does not matter what kind of ride or show. They all close at some point every few years for general maintenance. Usually the fall/winter are the best times to do this because their is lower attendance. It is just another trade-off you make when you book in the off-season. :)
