Our travel charter allows one carry on suitcase 10 X 16 X 24. (and purse, diaper bag) Good,
But the one suitcase to send through is limited to 62 inches and 40 lbs.
One suit case a person......and one carryon.

So I have old reliable is 30 inches tall about 22 across and 10-12 in depth...
How do I figure out the total inches...My math was never strong point.

Next one down is just inches smaller.
TIA
dianne

PS, anyone know If I can put my coffee pot and toaster in my carry on, or send it through? Worried about breakage?

The 62" is a total of the length + width + depth of the suitcase. So for you, it would be 30 + 22 + 10 = 62". As long as you don't expand your suitcase to 12", you're fine.

You could carry the toaster and coffeepot onboard but don't be surprised if they give those items a thorough once-over when you go thru security. While it wouldn't be my choice (I hate carrying anything more than I need to), there's no reason that you couldn't.

Any suitcase more than 26 inches tall will easily run the risk of going overweight and is no longer a good value.

I retired my 28 inch as it was often overweight - as an elite member I am allowed 70 pounds within America and almost 100 pounds from Germany, and STILL went overweight. Plus lifting it was just a joke. 30 inch suitcases are just a liability.

You can find low cost, servicable suitcases for under $40 at places like TJ Maxx or Macy's on clearance. They will serve the occasional traveller just fine, and will save you money in the long run.

Even my high end, lightweight 26 inch suitcase often goes over 60 pounds, so 40 pounds is VERY little. Also remember that older and less expensive suitcases can weigh up to 20 pounds empty.

I strongly suggest that you consider finding an alternative to the 30 inch case or you will be paying hefty overweight charges.

That is great information. We have mega light weight, no old hard siders. I ought a 26" for disney 6 years ago and the 30 inch is actually a light tapersy yard sale find. I don;t think that one should run too much weight but will test it as it will carry my sons pillows and extra needs. With a strioller, car seat, my walker, the diaper bag, my carry on, everyones carry on YIKES.

There is a sale going on and I am going down to see, the set is running $39 for several pieces 70% off.

Toaster and coffee pot are one way for a swap. They are going to stay. If I can send them straight through I will.

Thanks for tips and advice now to start packing!

Definitely put the lighter weight articles in the bigger suitcase, and the heavier ones (toiletries, shoes, jeans, etc) in the smaller one.

As to a toaster, you may want to consider a $9 sandwich maker instead. They pack very well in suitcases and while they don't toast bread, they are good for toasting bagels or making toasted Nutella sandwiches, etc.... ;)

Instead of a coffeemaker I use a French press travel mug and heating coil. Having travelled to a lot of different places on a regular basis for most nights of the year, I have learned to make do quite nicely with items that don't take up a lot of space! WHOOPS I just saw that they are for a swap, so disregard for this trip ;)

Good luck packing!

You may also want to put a small Totes or other lightweight collapsable duffle in an outside pocket of one suitcase; then if one of your suitcases goes overweight you can transfer items to the duffle and check that as well (so long as you are not over your total bag limit)

That is an excellant idea, I bought one last trip for about $10 at Walmart and just stuffed it to send home,,,,
The just in case factor will be on our side.

More then likely like other trips not much time in the room, and the needs will be minimal. I have to convince the DIL we can do laundry and we do not need EvERYTHING there is a car to buy pampers, water and food for toddler.
Thank you
Lots less stress about the room and the luggage now.
