Mixed feelings. I guess more no though, because you should be able to do whatever you want with having kids. I just think its so stupid to have more than you really need, if you love kids, why have them grow up without having food for them because you dont have enough money for all of them? If you can support them and all, then I guess go ahead and have 50 lol.
If you had 50, then you wouldn't be able to give them adequate bonding time. Money cannot subsitute a parent's love.

I definitely agree that welfare (specifically food stamps) should have more regulations.

Okay, I partly agree. I'm going to say that if they've been on government assistance for more than a year, that they shouldn't be able to pop out another kid.

But especially during these times, people are having it rough. Just because the parents might've gotten laid off doesn't mean they should have their baby taken away. They've just fallen into hard times and will likely get their feet back on the ground.

Now, bringing a kid into this world when you CLEARLY know that you have no way to support it, that's a different story. That's selfish.

Lol, you mean she would've had 8 kids taken away. Since she already had 6 and all.

I guess I should have been more specific. If you have been on food stamps for more than 2 years and aren't even making an attempt to work then you should have your child taken away. I mean there must be SOMEWHERE you can work (McDonald's, grocery store...) to help you get by and not TOTALLY rely on the government. That is what I have a huge problem with...people LIVING off of the system and using it as their only means of survival. They just sit around and do nothing while everyone else works.

I totally understand people who need the help temporarily because they lost a job or whatever but at some point you need to work SOMEWHERE and not just rely on taxpayers money.

Okay then, I completely agree.

I'll just say, that when I was applying for jobs I got very very many offers from places like McDonalds, restaurants, stores in the mall, etc and I was barely 16 with no job experience.

So that's why I take little pity in people saying they can't get a job. You could get a job somewhere even if it only pays minimum wage.

I dont think thats even possible.
Like if the limit was like 6 kids or something
would the octomom get two taken away?

i think it sounds reasonable, but it takes away rights (in the U.S.)

I don't think you should have a limit on the number of children you have if you have the means and love to care for them. Angelina and Brad have millions of dollars and are able to adopt children already alive and not make a ton of new ones. At least half of their kids are adopted. They are an example of parents who could take on the financial burden of 14 children, not some lunatic living off some "back injury" and the tax dollars of hard working Californians.

::yes:: I totally agree.

My friend (I love her but sometimes what she says drives me INSANE) claims she can't work because there are NO JOBS. I see hiring signs at fast food places all over here, at the grocery store...it's always hiring. There is always an excuse for her though...don't want to work in food industry (don't blame her...that would be last on my places to work), grocery store lights are way too bright...I just shake my head. There is usually always work somewhere...might not be the most desirable but it's work. She actually was offered a job at PetSmart and she turned it down because she wanted to spend more time with her boyfriend while he's at home so her baby can "know" and spend time with both of her parents. Doesn't she do that during the day while he's at work?! Now she wants to go back to school and wants to ask the county for help in daycare payments (using the system even more). I told her to just take night classes so her boyfriend could watch their daughter and she said it would be too hard to figure out. HOW?!! You go to school after he gets off work...not too hard to figure out. And she is talking about having another baby!

Vent over.

When you have so many kids that you (the parents) are delegating tasks of caring for a younger child to an older child instead of doing it yourself, that's just wrong. It's not showing love to your child. It's having another child show love to that child. It's wrong, to me.

I'm going to sound bad for saying this but if you are on food stamps and other government assistance and pop out another kid you shouldn't be able to keep the kid. It should be given up for adoption to a couple who has been waiting for a child to love and can FINANCIALLY support it without the assistance of Uncle Sam. It pisses me off to no end, especially when I know a ton of people who milk the system for all it's worth.

people should be allowed to have as many children as they want and can support, both financially and emotionally. if you need to have other children parenting their siblings, its too many. if you can't afford to care for the children properly, its too many. i agree that in these cases, adoption is the best option.

So in Writing class today (yep, Writing. Not Sociology, lolol.) we had to write an essay arguing our opinion on 'Should the government limit the number of children a couple or single person can have?' She came up with this topic because of the whole 'octomom' debocle.

So, your opinions?

No. Some people can support, want, and care for a large family.
The government has no right to step in on that liberty.

i don't think there should be a limit on how many children you can have.
unless you are living off them then i say have as children many as you like.
