Does anyone know if there is a limit on the line of credit allowed on credit cards when travelling outside the US? I thought I read when I crossed into Canada recently that it was not permitted to carry any money or line of credit in excess of $10,000. Any info would be appreciated.

I believe you are not allowed to carry cash or bonds worth over a certain amount. I may be wrong but I believe that is what the documents say. I do not recall any limit on credit cards.

A credit card warning...
Regardless of your credit limit, your charge card company may freeze the account if you make a lot of charges outside of the country due to suspicion of fraud. This happened to us once because we took two Disney cruises within such a short time of each other. The worst thing was, even tho' we were in port, Guest Services wouldn't let us use a phone to call and straighten it out. They said we should go to our cabin and us the $6.95 ship to shore phone. To me, that didn't make a lot of sense...if we supposedly can't pay our bill, why would they want us to rack i up higher? Thankfully, we had another charge card we could use, but if we didn't, I don't know what would have happened. Be sure to always bring two, just in case.

I've heard of the same thing. Just notify your credit card company before going that you will be traveling outside the country and it is you that will be charging more than usual (?) !!

It can happen even when traveling in the US! Chase froze my M/C account after I used it on a trip to WDW, and rather than room charge with one or two big charges, charged everything individually right to the card.

I had to call them and verify about 100 charges before they would turn it back on! I had them do something to the account so it sees charges in the central FL area as being my "Second Home". But I still call in advance when traveling anywhere else.

PS--There is no limit on credit cards being taken/used outside the US. It's only the amount of currency and/or negotiable instruments that you can carry back and forth.
