Hi everyone - sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times already...

Are there any limits on the number of points that you can bank, or the number of years that you can bank? For example, can we bank 2 consecutive years and use them in the 3rd year?

Thanks!

You can only bank the previous UY points. You can not bank 2 years in a row. Also banked points must be used by the following UY or they expire.
Example: 2005UY - Banked 100pts
2006UY - now have 200 pts, 100 current and 100 banked
Those 100 banked points must be used in the 06 UY or they expire. When booking in the 06 UY MS will use banked points first for booking.

Brownie - Thanks! That's what I thought.

One more hypothetical situation..
If I bank all of our '05 points, and book a vacation for '06, how many '07 points can I borrow?

Mike....if the stay is in the 2006 UY you can technically borrow all your 2007 UY points. But remember this, once you borrow points they can not be banked, they must be used. So with banking and borrowing you can have 3 years worth of points at your disposal.

You can only borrow the number of points actually required to make a reservation. You may borrow up to 100% of a year's points. Unlike banking where you decide how many points to bank, you don't decide how many points to borrow. For example, you don't call and 'borrow' 50 points and have them put into the preceeding use year. You only borrow points at the time you make a reservation.

If you had a 100 point contract with 100 banked 2005 use year points, and wanted to make a reservation for use year 2006 that required 242 points, then MS would use the 100 banked points first, then the 100 regular 2006 allocation points, and then would borrow 42 points from 2007 to complete the reservation.

Hope this helps.

Brownie (or anyone else)--

I'm not sure if I understand this statement. Say I received 200 points for my 2005 Use Year, and I bank 25 of them into 2006. In 2006 I use my 25 banked points plus 150 of my 2006 points, you mean I can't bank the other 50 of my 2006 points??

Or are you just saying I cannot bank 2005 AND 2006 into 2007??

He is saying you cannot rebank banked points. If you bank some 2005 points into your 2006 Use Year, you must use them or lose them by the end of your 2006 UY, you cannot bank those banked points again.

You can, however, bank any of your 2006 UY points into your 2007 UY, subject to your banking deadlines. So in your example, you CAN bank your remaining 50 2006UY points.

as long as you are still within your 2006 banking window(s), yes you could bank the 2006 points into 2007. What you cannot do is bank the 2005 points into 2007...they must be used within your 2006 UY.

That's a relief. So what Brownie means is you can't bank the SAME points two years in a row. :teacher:

Greenban was being nice. Wait until you get to the advanced courses:

1. Difference between a Master Contract plus an Add-on, and two Master Contracts, in regards to making reservations, and banking points.

2. Renting Points, which actually means renting a reservation, tax implications, DVC rules about commercial rentals, and prohibition on receiving any compensation for transferring points.

3. Special timeframes and day-by-day bookings

4. Linked reservations

5. What is MS, CRO, DVC, DVD, II, DCL, and so on

6. What's better: AP using DVC discount, or MYW tickets.

:teeth: Don't worry, you have plenty of time. Stick around these boards for awhile and you become an expert.

For now, just have a great time and enjoy your DVC vacations. :wizard:
