Hi everyone,

I have not been able to get a clear answer to this question, so I appreciate the help!

We leave in 8 days on the Halloween on High Seas Cruise out of New York! My 2 year old is dressing as Yoda for one of his costumes! He has a lightsaber (non-light up, non-talking) just a store bought basic green one for Yoda!

Will we be able to bring it?

I saw, for Star Wars at Sea sailings they allow them. But this is not that its Halloween on the High Seas...

If for some reason they don't allow something, will they just take it out of your checked luggage? or do they take the whole bag? (That would be everyones costumes!!)

I have not sailed HotHS yet, but from everything I have read here, lightsabers are fine. I would be amazed if they allowed them on SWDAS but not HotHS. And since they are allowed on SWDAS, clearly there is not a safety issue at play.

The "toy weapon" issue appears to apply specifically to fake weapons which could be mistaken for a real weapon. For example, a toy laser gun that's all black and could be mistaken for a real gun. Nobody is going to mistake a lightsaber for a real weapon that could do real harm.

If you want 110% certainty, call DCL to verify, but I think you are fine.

And when DCL confiscates stuff, they only confiscate the offending item. They don't keep the whole piece of luggage.

I went on a SWDAS cruise in April. I was going to make a light I found plans for online. I made the mistake of calling DCL and asking if I could bring it onboard. Of course they said no. During the SWDAS, lots of people had light sabres. I asked someone, who had a nice one how he got it onboard. He said he had thought about calling beforehand, but he thought that they might say no, so he just brought it anyways in his carry on luggage. He said didn't say anything about it. The moral is, "it is better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission."

We went on a Halloween on the High Seas on the Fantasy a few weeks ago. I packed our "less special" lightsaber just in case it was held in storage for the duration of our cruise as not allowed, or damaged in travel. I brought a foam one with a plastic hilt, and it was NOT taken out of our checked luggage. My son had a blast with it! Others had all-plastic ones and they battled in the atrium.

We also had an all plastic pirates sword packed for Pirates Night without concern.

I've seen them on normal cruises, along with plastic swords.
The only restriction is that you'll be asked not to bring them in the kids clubs during secured programming.
Enjoy your cruise.

I called DCL this morning for someone and was advised as long as the light saber is store bought, yes. If it's hand made, no.

Hope this helps,
Heather

We bought our light saber and sword and put them in our checked luggage on the Fantasy for SWDAS/Pirate Night. No problems
