Lights of Winter

No Disney officially announced two new Holiday offerings at DHS during their Christmas in July event earlier this week.

Sweet! Have we heard from the shovels yet?!?

(I'm glad...but 10/1 to 1/2 is off my calendar permanently until people stop fueling the beast...summers are now better)

Wait...are those "insiders"? 2 weeks after they announced dumping 5+ billion in capex in their parks?

Wow!!! I'm so glad disney loves me and is my best friend!!

Oh .... I'm gonna go dig. Was something to effect "Jingle Jam is back and an additional two Holiday offerings at DHS" or maybe I just had too much moose juice ... or was it goose juice.

Not sure what these offerings will be. They could be something simple like adding Christmas streetmosphere or something like a new show using one of the stages in DHS.

Probably more like adding a Christmas tree to the Olaf cupcakes and getting a free candy cane with your peppermint latte purchase at Starbucks.
They would have offered those cupcakes to the media if that was the case ;)

I think this will be a little more than cupcakes.

Mgm is in really no shape for this...and they wouldn't be real keen on the 1 hour nightly crunch that generates no spending either.

That's ultimately what killed Osborne...it got people in there but they didn't buy anything.

I don't know what the normal spending habits are of the average guest is, but the lights were one of the few times we ever actually did purchase anything. We always got the 5 dollar cups of hot chocolate to drink in the "snow." Lots of people also would buy lights to walk around with. And if they didn't always sell out, they would have gotten several Osborne Lights t-shirts/ornament purchases from me over the years.

Really? The liquor bar and the souvenir stand both appeared to do pretty brisk business.

Small taters....

No $325 hairdo by a $8.50 an hour employee...
No $400 in swag of low quality Star Wars toys at tatooine traders...

That's why I asked about the average spending trend of guests. I feel like the small things are what guests are spending more money on by not waiting in lines and such. Surely most people have a general budget for souvenirs. Things like BBB are booked in advance and you aren't missing it because you're looking at lights.

I hear you both. I think it's strange they are bothering with signage, months of work on this area, the open pointless space, a hidden Taphouse .... when there is so much more important stuff to be working on. It just seems they have something up their sleeve.

And all the "sites" are saying there are two 2 NEW Holiday things coming to DHS. I could see a holiday show like Pixar Music but it seems like alot of focus is happening in that space over there. I don't think it's out of reach for a park that is about to lose another attraction.

I don't think the work here is that unusual. Something had to be done with the space to make the connection to Star Wars Land and it had to be done before SWL opens so it makes sense to do it now.

But why the rush to have it done as soon as this Nov/Dec timeframe- they have almost 2 years before it really needs done.

I am assuming they are finishing this up and trying to add 2 new holiday things because DHS is a half day park at this point with GMR shutting down in August it hurts things even more. They need something to keep bodies in the park and attract others into the park. As of right now, if I was doing a trip without park hopper as much as I would miss Star Tours and TS I would forgo the extra ticket day and probably skip DHS. Thankfully we are doing the park hopper so we will be there in November, but its a very limited park. Adding new things for the holidays does 2 things. 1. As already stated it keeps bodies in DHS and it attracts more to DHS. 2. The holidays are a very busy time. They need these new Holiday attractions to spread the love at all for gates. With 2 NEW holiday things coming it may help with the MK crowd come Christmas week and prior.

I think Disney definitely has a few surprises up their sleeves for DHS this holiday season, they know closing GMR hurts and while these surprises certainly wont be life altering they will probably be bid enough to draw some crowds.

Because that area is a bottleneck and the sooner they can get pieces to the puzzle done the better.
