Lights, Cameras, Cancellation! An Unorthodox Excursion to the Wonderful World O’ Disney. (Updated 6/15 - Of Rats and Rockets)

To all who read these tardy words, forgive me. Also, don’t forget your medication. It’s been a hot minute so let me catch you up on the world of Biscuit. Over the past month we have had 4 banquets, 2 concerts, 2 graduations, 5 graduation open houses (including the one we hosted), visits from multiple family and extended family, our oldest daughter home from her summer internship for a few days, hosted a 50th anniversary party for my wife’s parents, and I have of course endured the craziness that always ensues at the end of the year when you are a teacher’s spouse. (There’s a support group…Staple Pullers Anonymous.)

When last I left off some time ago, there was a general celebration of FARTS foods underway. Perhaps now would be a good time to share the story of Remy the Ride. (Or whatever they chose to call it.) I didn’t have a Lightning Lane so I headed over to the New France by means of the Old France with a pitstop along the way to partake of molten brie.

In accordance with the prophecy.

When I entered the Remy standby queue the posted wait time was 135 min. I settled in for the long haul and began to slowly meander my way through a sea of seemingly endless switchbacks. Half an hour into this self-imposed drudgery the line stopped moving altogether. Ten min later there was a generally angry murmur happening across the courtyard where the Lightning Lane lives. Word began to spread that the ride was down and soon there were cast members spreading the news throughout the queue. Everyone was given an option of waiting in line or moving on. At first, no one moved. Then as time moved on, the line slowly shuffled forward as group after group began to throw in the towel and head off to dining reservations or other attractions. Over the next hour the line shrunk more and more and more until I was almost inside the building. Then we noticed something. Lightning Lane holders were being queued up instead of turned away. There was movement happening at the doors. And then, the happy announcement came and within 15 min, I was on the attraction.

I liked it.

I didn’t love it.

I wouldn’t wait that long again for it. But I’m glad I rode it and would I definitely ride it again if the line wasn’t so long.

From there I spent some time just soaking up World Showcase. I wasn’t quite hungry for more FOA food yet, so I walked through Mitsukoshi in the Japan Pavilion, took a stroll in Italy, visited some shops in Germany, and rode with Donald in Mexico.

From there I enjoyed the lights around Spaceship Earth a bit then headed around the lagoon and partook of the evening FOA Booths.

I then settled into a comfortable bit of wall near France and waited for Harmonious.

Like Remy, I liked it, but I didn’t love it.

I sent a text to some Disney loving friends when it was over and while I haven’t the patience to scroll through 6 month’s worth of messages to get the exact phrasing, the gist of it was “Well, it didn’t suck, but it’s no Illuminations”.

My evening done, I headed out of the park via the International Gateway, strolled to the Yacht Club, and caught a Lyft back to my resort.

All in all, it was an amazing day.

You can see some show highlights here (sans the actual show music) and at the end of this video I give a little spiel on how I felt about it saying goodby to Epcot.

Welcome back.

I understand how busy your life has been and I'm happy you're back writing.

I thought Remy was cute too but I would not wait in a long line to right it again either. I did a CM preview with my daughter and then the boarding group with the family in December and both times were just too long.

Your nighttime photos are gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing your trip and thoughts. I'm looking forward to more.
