RSP = Random Selection Process
You will each receive a catalogue of all event merchandise and a corresponding RSP form.
You can each list, in order of your preference, what you'd like from the catalogue. These forms are sent into Event Services (the due date will be in the packet) via fax, email, or US mail.
Event Services data enters everyone's requests, including the priority you assigned to each item on your form. They then run a program that randomly selects merchandise for each event attendee.
In general, at these smaller events, people usually get most of what they request. Occasionally there is some item that is so popular, that all requests aren't filled.
However, even if the computer assigns merchandise to a guest, you can call before the charge-your-card date, and have the item removed from your account. So some items are then returned to the pool.
When you get to the Event, you will pick up all your RSP assigned/pre-paid merchandise.
There is also a second RSP. Any merchandise returned to the pool would be available in that second round, as well as any merchandise not assigned in the first round.
At the annual Epcot event, the second RSPs were sent in advance, and due by some time on the first day of the Event. With the smaller events, the second RSP is often picked up with the first RSP merchandise, and has to be completed and returned fairly quickly. I am not sure how this is being handled for the Lights, Cameras, Pins Event.
As to the pinboards and the lines -- Hard to say how long the lines may be. Event Services has strived to reduce these lines by having multiple pin boards. Still, at the Epcot event, lines were inevitable because of the large attendance. If they have a pretty full crowd at MGM, the lines cold be long. Of course, it is your choice to stand in line or not. I can't stand very long, so I've skipped this part of Events most of the time. On the other hand, I suppose you could approach a CM about arranging for a seat while waiting.
Hope all this info helps!
