Inspired by jkh1979's thread about Mr. Potato Head...

Is there a place in DLR like WDW where you can make your own light saber? I tried search but it wasn't working (again!). I was mistaken about the barbershop so thought I'd better check in about the light sabers, lol! :lmao:

Thanks!

yes there is i read about it here i think its right there in the star wars store.

Jade is right. The exit from Star Tours drops you right into the Star Wars section of Star Trader, where you can build your own lightsaber, get a picture of you in a Star Wars scene, and generally find a whole lot of ways to spend money on Star Wars(which is especially dangerous for Star Wars geeks like me). :)

Yes, sniffle, there is. Went against my better feelings and let my 4 year old get one. Of course, even though he's tall and strong, the thing was WAY too big for him, and 3 days later he coudln't carry it, handed it off to one of us, and we all forgot it. So someone got a pre-made lightsaber "gift", b/c lost and found never did get it. :sad1:

If it's for kids and the kids are little, I would think long and hard about it. I wish we had just bought the simple $10 sabers, no lights, no sounds, with a belt clip that my guy could carry. In fact, I wish I'd gone to Target ahead of time and gotten him the exact same cheapie sabers for 7 bucks, instead of 10 at DL!

Just my thoughts, if they aren't relevant, move along. :upsidedow

How much was the special one? I'm sorry you lost it. How sad.

Actually your thoughts are very relevant. As an experienced Star Wars collector and geek(I mean my avatar has Aurora with a lightsaber for crying out loud ;) ), I can say that just about any "generic" Star Wars toy inside Disney will be cheaper if you buy it outside of Disney.

If an item combines Disney and Star Wars, it's only likely to be available in the parks. If it's a Star Wars plush toy, it's likely specific to the park. But if it's a standard action figure(not Disney) or generic toy lightsaber, it will be cheaper, usually significantly so, outside of Disneyland.

So, my opinion is that if you're going to spend money on Star Wars stuff inside Disney, get items that feature both Star Wars and Disney as they will be difficult to acquire outside of Disney.

The non-Darth Maul ones are $20, I believe. The Darth Maul ones (double-ended, but as they will tell you, only ONE side lights up) are a couple bucks more. Very reasonable, if you're big enough to carry it all day and won't let your parents lose it for you. (once we realized that it was one of us that must have lost it...and we have NO memory of him handing it to either of us, but as we left PFF we have a picture of him with it, then we went to ToonTown, stopped to regroup on the benches leading in to TT, and after that we didn't have it and pix of E didn't show him carrying it...once we realized that, we felt GUILTY and he got TWO of the $10 sabers, which were the ones he actually wanted to begin with, ugh)

Definitely. For some reason I thought that even the $10 sabers were somehow special, and I never checked it out. Of course now I've checked the Hasbro website a few times, and except for the build-your-own, they have EVERY normal lightsaber that the Star Tours store has, for much cheaper. They even the spring-loaded ones (turns out that is what hubby wants; he liked the idea of the build your own, which is why I caved when I found out that DL has them, they just aren't terrific...you can barely see the light in the daytime, and even with 3 color discs as they give little kids, the color is never very strong, and if you get the clear blade (so you can get colors other than red) you'll watch it get dinged up as you play with it)...

I already bring souvenirs back on subsequent trips, so I should have done my homework on those Hasbro souvenirs!

If you buy a regular Obi-Wan Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker(pre Darth Vader) light up lightsaber from the toy store, it should come with a blue colored plastic blade that will show up quite well in daylight since it's already colored to match the blade.
