i have to do a project for my american studies class on the lifestyles of the 1970s. i was wondering just out of curiosity if you were around then, what was a favorite thing you had that you remember and wish you still had?

I remember my parents having a lot of fondue parties.

My parents have pictures of Toga parties. Is that the 70's?

I was born in 1977 so I don't remember much! :smooth:

Born in 1970.... here

Lets see, I loved the idea of a Big Wheel.. my neighbors had a Big Wheel and we all had to share it. The sound of the wide wheel as it spun on the asphalt... those were the days! This was also the time of a single Barbie doll and maybe if you were lucky, multiple outfits. Now the trend is multiple Barbies (for example my daughter has over 20!) I think I had maybe three at the very most!

I remember the advent of color tv. That was a huge deal, to see what people really looked like. There was no remote, it was a dial, and an antannae on top. (no cable or satellite dishes!)

I remember racing home (no VCR or tivo then) to watch the new cutting edge show Sesame Street, Electric Company or The Partridge Family.

Cocktail parties, and smoking were very vogue.

no flames here--- i was born in 87 and dont know about any of it!!!!! hahahahaha lol :p just about watergate ( my favorite thing in history. i dont know why but i love to hear about it over and over again) and some of the stuff i researched.

Born 1969

I got my 8 track player with Grease and Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. I saw Star Wars, Grease, Pete's Dragon and when the PG version of Saturday Night Fever came out I saw them every other weekend when I went with my dad. I loved my Donna Summer, Barry Manilow and other various albums.

It was the best time of my life.

We LOVE having fondue night. We do it a few times a year with our friends and my favorite restaurant is the Melting Pot:D

I remember I had a black and white television and I would stare at it and swear it was turning color. I would always bug my dad and make him come in to see that it was turning color. He would come in and say "Yeah, it's getting there!". It never did turn color!

I had platform shoes! I just loved those horrible clunky looking things....who knows why??? I used to love to go Disco dancing too!! Donna Summer, Bee Gees, etc....those were the days!! I had lots of fun back then.

I remember one wall of the living room in my mom's house having nothing but this really funky mirrored tile on it from floor to ceiling. When I asked her why it was like that, she told me it was very popular in the 70's.

How wierd!

I graduated from high school in 1978.

I remember in '76 there was a lot of stuff about the Bicentennial -- and we had placemats in the kitchen decorated with colonial scenes. but ...ugh... that avocado green refirgerator! senior year my English teacher got a betamax and we all considered it a novelty. my boyfriend got cable tv and was amazed that he could watch a movie without commercial interruptions.

remember earth shoes? buffalo sandals? candie's?

I had a toot-a-loop radio!

I was born in 1969.. my favorite things as a kid were Roller Skating (4 wheels, not 2!) , listening to my Grease record.. oh year, Vinyl records and SMURFS!

I remember macrame being really big too!

The disco dresses, Candies high heel shoes, clogs, the men wore polyester shirts with big collars and chains. Standing in line for Gas on odd/even days depending on your license plate. Tight famous name jeans (Jordache, Candies, Chic, Gloria Vanderbilt) worn with high heels. Blasting Donna Summer, Bee Gees etc music from your cassette tape player in your car while crusing in the summertime.

Going for a Whopper at Burger King with friends, when it really was a Whopper!! LOL

Oh yes, and the Blizzrd of '77' here in Buffalo New York, I became a aunt during that storm. Drove my sister for her checkup sunny morning, left office snowing heavily, went into labor on trip home. Father could not get home to my sister trapped in storm, had to call 911, ambulance could not make it, eventually the fire resucue squad showed up and took the two of us the the hospital a 15 minute drive took over a hour all streets blocked with stuck cars. But we made it in time and Debbie was born.princess:

You might want to look for a song called "Nineteen Something" It was a country hit in the last year. Makes a lot of references to the 70s

I remember going to NYC for the bicentennial big ship parade.

I remember Gunne Sak dresses...wore them for my junior and senior prom.

I remember Afternoon Delight on the radio.

Ahhh, macrame...one of my best friends lost his mother in HS and before she died she made me a huge macrame hanger...I still have it...somewhere.

Records! I still have a large collection. My husband gave me a new turntable 2 years ago.

8 tracks...in the car....loud.

shag carpet...red

amish signs above the garage.

typing class....GRROOOAN!

my brother being the first HS student EVER to be caught smoking pot on school property at our HS..

the lime green bridemaids dress and stupid matching fan...I looked horrid.

I was born in 1965, but in the 70's I had the big wheel and the barbies (2) to be exact. But my favorite item from my barbies was this cute little leapord print blow up furniture. I still have it all, the couch, chair and ottoman!

Does anyone else remember "Dawn" dolls? I had those too and also how about "Chrissy" The tall doll that had the button on her stomach to push that would let down her hair or pull it up again! I still have all of that too. I only have one son, but I just couldn't part with any of it.
