We plan on going to TL, ds is 4. Do they have life jackets there that you can rent/use? Should I bring him one? He can semi swim, but not too well. Is there even a real need for one if he stays in "kiddie" section?? Or would floaties be easier??

When we were there several years ago they did have life jackets to use. But if you're staying in the kid's area I don't think they'll really be a need for one.

yes they do. at all the moderate and value resorts i've been at (so I would expect no less at a luxury), just go to the desk and request them at the start of your stay. return them last day. no charge!

they were so good that i bought 2 for home from the company that makes them for disney (tracked down by the label on the inside of the jacket!). lightweight foam, very boyant, coast guard apporved.

see the super soft lifejackets at:

make sure that's the first thing you do at check in - request the lifejacket...they have limited quantities, and the size you need may be spoken for already...we brought our own to use at the resort our first trip, because I didn't want the possibility of not having one to use...although if you're renting a car, you could always go buy one...:)

HTH!!

The CM I spoke with last week said the lifejackets are only available to DVC members. It sounds like he was wrong....or could the rules have just changed?

well the rules COULD have changed, but I've done life jackets at least 4 times at the allstar sports, carribean beach and dixie landings. last time was in feb. 2002.

call ahead to the front desk at the restort you're staying at and make sure.

I stayed at CR last July and was told by the life guard that there were life jackets available at the same place you rent the boats. CM told me they would rather U user for free than have a possible accident. Also told me you just show your room key the log it. Keep for length of stay and return to place picked up or leave in room. I returned just so they know I returned it.

I forgot my DS in room at resort when we went to TL and it took me 1/2 of waiting in line to get one for his use. They also take your room key and return when you return the vest. As I was using room key for purchases this was not very convient. My DH had to go get all the food and wait in those lines LOL. Serves him right for making me wait for the vest LOL.

It worked so well for DS5 I went to Walmart when I returned and purchased one in their sporting goods dept. Only cost $20. My home pools deep end is 15 feet. Just purchased a new one the other day for this year.

Wow! That sounds great, if we can just pick one up from our resort! I'll call and check it out. Thanks so much!
