Well, I saw titanic and poisidon adventure ok? Does anyone ever bring there own life jackets? Thanks, Bev

Life jackets (one per person) are already in your cabin waiting for you. In fact you can make sure they fit when they do the drill at 4pm. Last year they did not give DS a child's one but rather an adults and we had it switched after the drill.

Great, that makes me feel better.. I thought we'd be dashing to a central location. ( I'm not as paranoid as I seem, just musing)

You will have to go to your "station" for the drill, the crew counts you ( they have a checklist and look for your stateroom number which is on your lifejacket) it is good practice in the unlikely event that they would actually need to evacuate.

not only 'can' you try them on at the drill..
you'll HAVE to put them on at the drill (the CMs will show you how...i wasn't sure how to put it on until they showed us)...
also, since you mentioned the titanic...unlike the titanic, there are enough lifeboats for all on board (passengers and crew)...also, the magic and wonder sail in warm water (not like the titanic that went down in ice water...)...
finally, when the magic had a fire a few months back, several other cruise ships immediately answered the just in case call and were nearby to evacuate the ship had it come to that (it didn't, but it's nice to know the other cruise lines immediately answered the call)....

one more thing...DCL is VERY serious about safety...
you'll see during the drill how serious they are about it..
also, when we were in nassau we saw several CMs practicing with the lifeboats themselves....getting them out and down into the water etc...
we asked about it and were told they constantly practice so that when the real thing should ever happen it will all go like clockwork....

You can bring it, but they'll make you wear theirs. Theirs are SOLAS spec, USCG Type I and they are individually identified with your evacuation station number.
I wouldn't worry too much about it though, the last two cruise ships to sink with passengers aboard, the Achille Lauro and the Oceanus sank with no loss of life.
