Life’s too short...to never sleep in a treehouse! 8/27 TR is up! Link in siggie

Okay.

So I am totally feeling like the ghost of Disboards past. :lmao:

In the week that I haven't logged on, your ptr has gained 10 pages! TEN!!!! :lmao:

Anyway, I enjoyed my reading, quite a funny crew here.

I know that it's "normal" for you guys, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry that you have to deal with all those scheduling conflicts with Kendall. That poor kid is just stuck in the middle, and there's no good way about it. At least everyone is becoming more verbal about their wants, and I hope it works out for the best. I can't even imagine having to handle all that, and I know it probably bothers you on some level, but you really seem to handle it so well.

Second, a cruise? MY MY MY!!!! That's exciting! :thumbsup2

From what I've read, financing the DVC purchase does not really offer much advantage over just paying for annual vacations every year. Part of the premise of DVC is that you are prepaying for your vacations and you get your money's worth in about 5 trips. If you finance, it obviously takes much longer. I would purchase either unless I was able to pay cash.

Hence - no more points for me right now!

So weird, I swear I posted a response to this last night but it's gone! As big as our group is and as pricey as our trips are I think we'd pay it off in about 3-4 trips. So we'll see, it's a good goal. Much later than that and I'd worry we wouldn't get as much out of it initially as the boys would be getting older.

I have to agree with the DVC discussion!

We actually put 1/2 down and financed the rest. But we did it with the intention of paying that 1/2 very, very quickly. Which is what we're doing.

We LOVED our SSR stay and I can't wait for our Kidani stay :cloud9: DVC was the BEST purchase we ever made!!

I'd love to do it now but then again, if we did, I'd have to push to stay there and a true "hotel" is more comfortable for Sandie for whatever reason. If BCV slept 9 it might work but oddly she wasn't all that excited about BLT or AKV and def not THV! You bought at AKV right? Did you do SSR because of availability?

I can't recall.

I loooove to hear someone passionate about what they do, it proves they're where their creator designed them to be. :lovestruc

Well I can't actually say I'm doing it (or have done it) lol but I love the work they are doing.

That said, having passion for what you do is essential!

Hmmm....checking in...

Awesome about your plans for your 45th b-day...I've never done a cruise but would do a Disney one...:cool1:

So you are still doing the summer trip in August...unless you can get a firm commitment that Kendall could/would come in July?
:cool1::cool1:

Yes, we are keeping the dates as they stand unless we get some kind of committment from K's mom for different dates. Which won't be coming anytime soon I have an update on all of that coming shortly!

Okay.

The ghost of DISboards past

:rotfl:

love it.

It will bother me if it keeps ME from going, or anyone else. That was an issue last summer as you know and we resolved to not let it happen this year. Of course it will bother us if she can't go but it is what it is.

These things used to bother me a lot more. I was bothered not so much for me but for Jeff, I would get SO mad on his behalf. Which helped absolutely no one and then put him in the middle between his ex and I. Which was not my intent (of course). Once I learned to let that go it got a lot better. They are his battles to fight, not mine. I need to respect how he chooses to do that even if it isn't what I would do. My job is to be there for him and support him.

Sometimes I think Jeff is the lucky one as he doesn't have to deal with anything from my ex. But you know what? Those kids have 3 adults that would walk through fire for them. The E's should be so lucky, it would be worth the headache for them to have that all around as well.

I am SO excited about my birthday cruise plan!

I totally forgot to add my well wishes for your job interviews and that whole situation! I hope you hear something soon.

I know how you feel. I didn't always get along with my MIL. And honestly, we don't need to go into why. There's A LOT there. But I realized that through the all the seemingly careless things that she's done, there's someone who's hurting more over it than I am, and that's my husband. And although he may not talk about it all the time, my bringing it up is like beating a dead horse, to use a horrible expression. I'm only furthering his pain by complaining about things that already bother him. And quite frankly, that we can't change. It's all about how we deal with it, you're so right on that.

So how have you been otherwise, miss? :goodvibes

Exactly! You get it

I'm quite good. Well except for some SERIOUS laptop issues.....

Update coming soon!

Faith.

Fortitude.

and Fairies.

I have felt surrounded by faith lately, both my own and others around me and have been seeing some truly magical things. In the midst of it, fortitude has been required (very notably this morning...trying to work on the faith aspect in regards to that) and magically something has happened as a result of it all.

A fairy appeared.

I had a nice update all ready to go. And then the blue screen of death decided to visit me.
Well actually it went more like this….

Bear in mind I am NOT a morning person and had not even had a sip of coffee. This is what greeted me.

“Windows has recovered from a serious error”

Cue weird yellow blinkie things all over my screen. I thought it was just that web page. Checked another, nope, there too.

Close the browser entirely.

Look at email.

Weird yellow blinkie things all over that screen too.

My first thought is my screen is failing. Try to close that but..nope system is frozen.

Suffice to say it went downhill from there. I've was on the phone with Dell for almost 4 hours today...listening to brain numbing music with a crick in my neck as I typed. The phone that has speaker phone on it died and is recharging. I went through 3 phones of the day.

It appears that I need...

  • A new video card
  • A new motherboard
  • New memory

YIKES! Basically the video card is corrupt and as it's welded to the motherboard they are replacing that as well. They think some of the memory may be bad or may have just been unseated but as a precaution are replacing all of that as well so it will be "for sure" fixed.

We have other laptops. Yes, it’s a big problem for work but nothing that can’t live for a day or two. The FAR bigger issue is Evan’s school auction. I am doing all of the graphic design for it. It is on Saturday. I am in the final stages of the catalogue. While I can get at the raw information I can’t make a single edit on any other computer (nor do I have the native file) because it’s created in a program I ONLY HAVE on that laptop. So I am literally, freaking out. And I can’t do anything about it except try to focus on the positive.

1. It is Monday.
2. I do have an extended warranty
3. It did (as I suspected) end up being hardware issues, not software, so it is fully covered.

Parts are ordered, should get to the technician in 2-3 days, please pray it's soon and he comes soon to fix it, I have major program anxiety! I don't trust costco to turn it around in a day if that's what ends up happening.

Of course if others would have had the data to me a WEEK agoSe when it was due, it would have been done already and not in final edits.

GRRR.
So in the meantime…I guess I will recreate my update!

Laptop nightmare aside I have really felt surrounded by blessings this week. Many little things in the midst of difficult times for so many that just give me joy and hope and such a sense of peace right now it is truly wonderful. You all are part of that and I thank you.

Interview update
They are not moving forward with me at this time. They want someone with deeper sales experience in this area (which is funny as I technically have ZERO). Apparently it was “really tough” for them to make that call as they did really like me. From my perspective, it’s all good. REALLY good.

I was not comfortable with the goals they had in mind, I think they are unrealistic and more importantly, not sustainable.

I was not willing to put myself in that situation. I think that was clear, in a respectful way, and that they respected that. I also think internally there is disagreement in this area, with one person feeling as I do, and the other one smoking crack. I’m all for aggressive growth, this was just flat out insane.

All that said, I really really liked the company and the people (unrealistic goals notwithstanding). I could see working there. Culturally it was a tremendous fit. SO the doors are open. I made some great contacts and I think it went really really well and I was true to myself. I feel great about it. The recruiter thinks they are going to come back to me at some point as they won’t find someone with deeper experience but we will see. The recruiter also wants to keep in contact in case she finds anything else out there I’d be a good fit for. All good.

A couple of magical financial things happened too, unexpected blessings that really provided an additional feeling of this is the right thing. Not to get into it but I recieved a CS check this week. That does not EVER happen. I feel like for once, the E's dad, really came through when they really needed it (bad part of a commission only job is the in-between times!).

Doug Update
Please lift him up. There’s been a lot of drama going on in his life beyond his health and he is really depressed. While none of it is really new, Sandie is a wreck and the men in her life are not very supportive as everyone is a bit fed up with it all. Please pray he finds a new path and source of strength.

FIL Update
He is going in today for another PET scan to see if the mass has shrunk. He thinks it has as all the other “symptoms” are gone. If it has not, it does sound like he is leaning towards surgery. Please lift him up to help him find a clear path that he is at peace with.

Ok. Enough real life drama.

The FUN part of my update.

The really COOL part of my update

Guess what arrived in my email last Friday.

A PIN CODE!

The PIN fairy arrived, already! The magical covers almost the whole year, 40% off deluxe PIN code! This is SO freeing to us! If we have to change dates…we can. It gives us a ton of flexibility if we need it. For now we are just applying it to the current ressies. Free dining is still a better deal by about $350 (for both rooms combined assuming I put Eric in as an adult instead of a kid) but if we have to move dates, FD won’t be available anyway and the cost of the DDP goes up to “summer” rates so the savings are equal. The problem is that we will not know if we have to move dates until April at the earliest and my gut says May or even early June.

K’s mom will not commit to any dates prior to the darn tournament schedule. So Jeff thinks we should just leave them where they are. All I can do is hope the YC is really still available (at the PIN code booking) if and when we need to move. Which brings me to ADR’s. I guess I just have to make them based on our current dates. The idea of moving our dates in April/May or June and then redoing the ADR’s gives me some serious heartburn but I suppose since it is possible the resort could change based on availability I just need to let it go and hope it all works out. The resort will definitely dictate some of the ADR’s.

My DDP thoughts.

Pro’s
  • We saved a bundle last time but 2 of the kids were under 10.
  • I LOVED having it paid for before we even got there, letting the kids get snacks everyday without mentally adding as we went. That made is really feel like a deluxe vacation.
  • I did pick restaurants based on getting value out of the plan last time. I figure we saved about $350 and that was with having 11 CS credits left over!
Con’s.
  • While technically only one will be under 10 this time, neither will be happy with the kids menus.
  • We ended up doing 50% buffets to work around this last time and I am really not a buffet person. Dessert. I could skip or share dessert every time, more often than not we were too full anyway. I’d rather have a salad or an app.
  • If we just do the 40% off and no DDP it would give us more flexibility in our choices but I do worry we will spend more than the plan with snacks and such.
  • I can’t see the E’s really eating the full adult value of the plan each day, nor Sandie or even Kendall so maybe it would be better.
I guess the good news is that with the PIN code in place, I can add the DDP pretty close to our leave date so it’s not like I need to decide now.

In other exciting news I started my cruise savings CD so that’s all planned for and doable! :thumbsup2Hoping for a PIN on that one too but I’ve got time!

Next....How the World turns. On you. With you. For you.

Cheers to a PIN code! And replacement computer parts!! :rotfl:

Hope all that sorts itself out shortly!

Hoping that everything on the home front works out for the best. I love you got a code !!

Disney cruise = fun. We had a great time before kids! looking forward to another cruise sometime soon.

OK, here we go:

1) First off, having computer problems really stinks. So, so happy things were on warranty still, as that would added more aggravation to the situation.

2) Changing dates would STRESS.ME.OUT! For me, I simply could NOT do that, as my window for going is way too locked in. Glad you have at least a little flexility to do that.

3) Learning to have peace about a situation that you really don't have all that much control over sure is a great tool to put into the maturity bag. And one that's definitely a process to acquire!

4) Given that.... glad to hear you found it in the job interview process, and will be praying for that same for FIL...

5) Totally awesome about the PIN code!! That's the same one maroo got, that we will be using for the Poly portion and Pop parts of our trip.

6) DDP vs. OOP: I have no idea how many countless hours of analyzing I've done to figure out what's the best deal for us. To me, it always comes out within a few dollars of each other; the only advantage being that I'd end up with free sodas that I dont' need anyway.

7) Cool beans on the cruise!! I 'd LOVE to take one someday. Maybe that's in my way far off, distant future?

Oh my goodness! You had quite a day! I hope everything gets fixed and works itself out soon!

Congrats on the pin code! I hope you can get everything worked out!

When my sister and her family had to cancel on our trip last Jan we went through a whole series of changes based on that and then again when the 4 & 3 deal came out. I had no problems at all switching resorts and redoing all of our ADR's. Hopefully you'll have the same luck!

WOO HOO for a magical pin code!! That is so awesome.

I'm sorry about your laptop, that must be really stressful. Everything will work out!

Wow, a fried motherboard. In my work experience, we have always called it the "blue screen of death." :lmao: Not really funny, but thank goodness it's fixable and under warranty.

I will continue to pray for your family, especially for Doug and your FIL.

Congratulations on the pin code!!!! It couldn't have happened to a nicer person!!!! :goodvibes I'm a big fan of 40% off the room. It's one of my favorite discounts. Because even though free dining may have been better, you may get more of a variety of options with the 40% off and that's pretty cool, too.

How in the world I missed this is beyond me so you will have to forgive my lateness to your party!!!!

First of all I will be in prayer with you about FIL!! These type of situations are never easy, went through it with my mom!!!

Secondly, how much do you charge to make binders??? LOL Seriously you may have the best binder layout I have ever seen...WOW! Simply WOW!!! I loved reading your plans!!! SO much fun!!!

Thirdly, Ughh to the laptop issues! I hope you will be able to get it fixed in a speedy manner so you can have it back for your son's auction!!!!

Lastly, a pin code....YAY!!! I know having that freedom and still knowing you can get a great deal is an awesome feeling!! So happy for you!!

I know, I know, I'm way behind... but unlike TK - I only went back a few pages...

Faith.

Fortitude.

and Fairies.

How I love your update!! You truly are an inspiration!! and I love how committed you are to your bonus mom responsibilities!!

Good Luck on the job front - dh is still out of work. going on another 2 weeks. Hopefully the right doors and windows open...

Definate prayers for Doug and your FIL - as well as Kendall and her soccer schedule - may there be peace all around!

Disney cruise = fun. We had a great time before kids! looking forward to another cruise sometime soon.

How fun that you went on one before kids, I love that! I would love to know your take on the cruise, Jeff is fairly anti-cruise in general, his feeling is it's for our retirement but the DCL intrigued him quite a bit. I know you guys are pretty active and go go go too :)

I do worry that he will be bored on the at-sea days but am super excited as all the Mex. Riv trips seem to offer ziplining as an excursion and he'd LOVE that. I think that will be his birthday present as the trip will be in-between our 2 birthdays.

7) Cool beans on the cruise!! I 'd LOVE to take one someday. Maybe that's in my way far off, distant future?

Changing dates is just our reality. On our last trip it changed 3 times! I think the harder part for me this time is I am more "married" to the resort and on the ADR front, depending on what dates we move to it could change the whole itinerary. That didn't matter last time as ADR's were only 45 days out and we booked right before that (and the park hours STILl changed) but this time it stresses me mildly.

That said, the only way our dates could move is EARLIER so...that part I like! Having the flexibility is really really exciting. Other than my sisters wedding in late June, we are wide open for dates so whatever works, we can work around. It does mean booking flights later than I'd like but I'll start keeping an eye out for refundable fares. Generally the really good flights to MCO from here are not refundable :(

I didn't realize you were able to use maroo's code on your POP room, that's outstanding!

We will see on the DDP versus not. I have a sneaking suspicion we might still be better off with it but, we will see. That is one decision that can wait! Hey who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and the 2010 plan will have apps somehow.

:rotfl:

A girl can dream...

I have to say, the tech guy at Dell was the BOMB yesterday. He really really tried to work through it and exhaust all possibilities. I had minor angina when he didn't call me back when he was supposed to and then when I called back in and got someone else was told I'd have to start from scratch or wait a full day to get this guy. And then they wanted to charge me for the call. After some minor foot stomping I got my guy back and he stuck with it for 3 hours (after 1 hour earlier). I really wish dell sent a service report so I could find a way to recognize him with his superiors. He was late in calling me as he'd been on the phone for 2 hours with someone else. That meant he was on the phone for 5 straight hours!

I am hard on my computers, the average life for one at the big green dot was only 2 years and there is nothing more frustrating than getting a tech on the phone and you know more than they do and you've already done all the troubleshooting. Getting someone who knows what they are doing, and gets that you "get' it, makes the process SO much better.

Didn't help the crick in my neck though, ugh!

Oh my goodness! You had quite a day! I hope everything gets fixed and works itself out soon!

Congrats on the pin code! I hope you can get everything worked out!

I only worry about the resort as the YC goes so fast. I'm not worried that we will find one, but we could lose YC. It is full for our dates already. When I moved our dates so many times last year it ended up working out really well.

I am mentally prepared, as is Jeff, that we could end up somewhere else but we will deal with it when and if it happens. Heck for that matter we could end up with issues over at Hard Rock but again, no sense in fretting now about what we don't know!

WOO HOO for a magical pin code!! That is so awesome.

I'm sorry about your laptop, that must be really stressful. Everything will work out!

YAY for PIN codes! Very exciting :)

And YAY for new a ticker for you!

Wow, a fried motherboard. In my work experience, we have always called it the "blue screen of death." :lmao: Not really funny, but thank goodness it's fixable and under warranty.

I will continue to pray for your family, especially for Doug and your FIL.

Actually the motherboard isn't fried, it's the video card. but since it is welded to the motherboard, that has to get replaced as well. 2nd mother board in 2 years BUT i did spill on the keyboard last time so we know what fried that one :lmao:

The new memory is just a safeguard, mine might be fine but I love the fact he wasn't taking any chances that it would need that too and then it would take even longer.

It was funny, not your normal blue screen of death. Instead it's 6 screens....hurts the eyes.

The 40% off gives us basically the whole summer as an option so there will HAVE to be one week that we can make work if we need to move the dates. Now we just wait but it is really a huge relief to not feel locked in anymore. Literally if we moved one day earlier we'd lose FD anyway and I'll be surprised if the dates aren't tweaked some. I just hope we don't lose the YC in the process.

How in the world I missed this is beyond me so you will have to forgive my lateness to your party!!!!

:welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome:

Hopefully we will get some news on FIL today, we will be talking to him as...it's his birthday!

Thanks on the binders. I have a lot of fun with them (though they, and that software is currently locked in my laptop till it's fixed) No charge and I do take special requests :) The template layouts are up on my DISign site for downloading.

I am having to do a workaround for the auction, I just can't take the risk, we've got bid envelopes to stuff and all kinds of other stuff. Sadly it does involve doing a fair amount of rework.

I was able to get a trial version of the software I use onto Jeff's computer and I was able to get all the files off of mine last night. Now my big problem is missing fonts! One of the main fonts in the doc is a Vista font and there isn't a similar sub for XP so that means a lot of formatting tweaking.

Oh well. I hope to have it done by lunchtime but didn't get a thing done yesterday while I tried to salvage what I had and get the program installed.

Cynthia I was talking to dh and he had a suggestion - then I read what you just wrote - and he figured you knew what you were doing (even if *I* didnt!! :rotfl2: I think he was curious if you had a back up disc of the Vista with the fonts on it!)

:) the problem is that they are not backwards compatible. There is a service pack and but it only includes the 07 office fonts, not the vista proprietary ones.

It's a bummer as it is SUCH a pretty font, it's actually Ethiopian and was added specifically for that language as the default but I did find something that will work but the sizing requires tweaking.

I don't think I have a backup disc on Vista, it came on my system when I bought that laptop and I only have the license for that system. Besides Jeff would kill me if I took his XP away!

it was bad enough that I put office 07 on his and the kids systems

:rotfl:

OK, there's a bunch I want to comment on, but honestly, I need a bath and bed right now. I'll have to pick this up in the morning while I sip my coffee.

Have a great rest of the day; nighty night!

Wowzer...it's always something isn't it?

Sorry about your computer...I would not have handled that well pre coffee at all...I'm hoping that all settles for you...

Sending you  on the job front...it really didn't sound like that was the right op for you and you didn't seemed as grooved by it as you would have if it was really something you wanted...

Super de duper yeah on your PIN code...now you just need to get your dates to all work out for you...:thumbsup2

Sending good wishes...pixiedust:

So sorry to hear about the computer problems, but I am so glad that you got a pin--it helps make things easier for you, I know.

Cynthia -

Al caught up and so much to comment on!

1. congrats for the pin code. that is really good news. I hate to say this, but I think K's mom is gonna take this thing right down to the wire. You're gonna be sweating it out by the end.

2. Bummer on the computer issues. I really hope everything gets resolved soon and to your satisfaction.

3. Good luck to your FIL. I would be really suprised if this lesion shrunk, but I am glad he is feeling better.

4. It sounds like you are satisfied with the outcome of the job interview. I'm glad everything ended well and don't be surprised when they call you again - cause they will.

All right - I have had far too many interruptions so I can't remember everything else I wanted to say. Doh!
