Lieberman's Iraq Views Rankle Some Democrats

As you probably know, Joe ran for president in 2004 but did not do well in the primaries. He didn't even carry his own state, which is my state. I think his association with Al Gore in 2000 hurt him with conservatives, who, if they were registered Republicans wouldn't have been able to vote for him in Ct. And of course, he was too conservative when matched up against Dean and Kerry. Additionally, Joe lacks the charisma that seems to be "required" in these days of television. I don't think Joe is setting himself up for another run. Joe believes what he says. He believes that the best prospect for peace through out the middle east is a free and democratic Iraq. He is a very religious man and very committed to the truth. He will put the truth before party alligiances. The Democrats that are posturing behind Kerry and Dean, and Boxer, are more interested in their party's success than their country. I find that pathetic. He is my state Senator and I vote for him everytime. There is talk that Lowell Wiecker, former Ct. US Senator, former Republican governor will run against him for his Senate seat due to Lieberman's pro war stance. Lieberman will still get my vote.

Joe Lieberman always seemed to me to be a man of convictions, but after his vice-presidential campaign, I feel he sold out to the party which really made me think. I voted for him to unseat Weicker, but I could not vote for him as a presidential candidate. I do agree with his stance on Iraq. As a minor correction to my fellow conservative neighbor, DawnCt1, Weicker was a maverick Republican senator, but he was an independent when he ran and attained the governorship of CT. He was a questionable senator and even worse governor.

Mr. Lieberman, unlike many Dems, isn't hoping for American failures so that he can succeed.

Exactly, he is putting his country before party first. Its a novel idea for many of those dems who are speaking out against him. They should try it. They might earn some respect.

You are correct of course. I had forgotton his switch to Independent. Isn't interesting that when Republicans go against the mainstream of their party, they are mavericks. When they are Democrats however, they almost virtually get ignored by their party. Murtha has gotton so much attention for his stance and despite Joe's WSJ piece and his outspokenness, he has had to shout to be heard.
With regard to Weicker, I can't think of a worse governor. What was abhorent was that he lied through out his campaign and almost immediately renegged on his promise about the income tax.

Absolutely! Weicker is as crooked as they come. No doubt that he was paid handsomely by the Mashantuckets and Mohegans for the deals he made with them also. As a statesman he was definitely for anything that was good for him.

I'm so fed up with politicians that I would vote for just about anyone who put his country/the PEOPLE of his country before party.
The older I get, the more I understand people who truly get so disgusted with politics that they no longer take part in the political system (i.e., vote). Wouldn't it be refreshing if a would-be government representative said what he/she really believed, instead of toeing a party line?
And Dawn, I rarely agree with you politically :) but you are right on here.

And don't forget whose pushed the sale of The Whalers. . Remember the Whalers? That was a big loss for Ct. I wonder what he got from Peter Karmanos?

I consider myself a moderate Republican, and I like a lot of what Lieberman has to say.

I would agree, I normally vote Republican but when I find a dem running that I like better I vote for him/her It's not about the party but who can run the Office better.
