I debated whether to even post this and ask for any of your experiences just b/c of the "ick" factor. I had always thought that "unclean" people got lice. I very much stand corrected and apologize for my stereo typing!

Anyway..... I found lice on both my DD's! I know where they got it from - my parents house where my neice lives and recently had it. I spend 2 hours on one DD's head last night (she has long hair) while my mom did the younger DD. We've treated and combed and combed and continue to comb. It's been 5 days now since the initial treatment. (DH and I have are doing the treatment as well just in case).

Can I just say gross! :guilty: I want this stuff GONE! How do I make it GO AWAY? I feel like I need to sterilize everything. We've researched and are doing what it says.

Please just tell me that it will go away and how long??? Please?

We know a family that went WDW in June. They stayed at the Poly. After a few days there they discovered two of them had lice. I am not saying it came from the hotel because it could have been anywhere- head rest on the bus, airplane, on a ride, etc..

We went a few weeks after- I was sure to check the bedding!

You need to wash everything they have contact with. Bed linens, hats, ect. Any unwashable items (stuffed animals, ect) need to be put in a plastic bag sealed up for about 2 weeks.

If you are not aggressive, it is a vicious cycle.

My son found lice on himself 2 days after the school cleared him! The school did periodic lice checks throughout the school year, and he had been check and cleared. 2 days later, he came out of the shower and said he thinks he has lice, because he saw something rinse out of his hair and go down the drain, I told him if the school just checked him he did not have it, but I looked anyway, and he was INFESTED! EEEW. I was so grossed out.

I had the heebie jeebies for weeks, and even today, I still pick at his head, just to be sure.

Don't panic, it will go away. It's just a pain in the *** for awhile. I have twin girls and they got it from school in 1st grade AND 2nd grade. The whole class got it so everyone was aware and we could commiserate together. They had long hair too which makes it more difficult. The easiest way to get the eggs out of the hair is in the direct sunlight....you can see them easier. I used my nails to pull them out after the comb just didn't seem to get them as easy. Remember you have to wash all the sheets and any bedding they have been sleeping on. I never had a problem wth the couches or living room furniture like some people and I did not get it either time. It is not a cleanliness thing, it's a childhood thing. Best part of the whole mess, ex-husband was *****ing and griping that I was a horrible mother that my children had head lice. Then, his new daughter years later got it AND HE DID TOO AND HIS NEW WIFE :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Sometimes life is just too good!!!!!! Hang in there and be patient...... :wave2:

:crazy2: ukk!!! I had lice the whole summer when I was 8!!! After trying to get it out forever with a nit comb and Nix (or whatever that shampoo is called), my mom finally got everything out with Crisco. She put it all over my head and put a shower cap on top and left it on all night and washed it out in the morning. It suffocated all of them and even killed the nits. It takes quite a few washings to get all of the Crisco out. Well best of Luck!

No lice yet in our family. But this past fall the little girl who we carpool with had it. I sprayed the car seats and the kids' booster seats, and we avioided getting it. I figure it is just a matter of time, though. I have all the treatment kits at home, just in case.

You need to retreat them because when the eggs hatch they may be re-in fested. I feel your pain, Years ago my daughter got head lice, it was a nightmare for me.

We've been through this too. It is a royal pain but you will get through it. I do remember at the time it absolutely felt like my full time job was dealing with the lice due to all the nit-picking, laundry, etc. When DD was finally nit free and allowed back to school, I was so overjoyed

OK honest....how many of you just scratched your heads???? :rotfl2:

My oldest DD had them in preschool.......it was just awful!!
we had to get a stronger lice shampoo..the first did not do the trick!! :sad2:

It took awhile to get over those heebie jeebies.....and I don't think she ever got the stuffed animals back....... :earboy2:

Someone actually told me to do this and I was wondering if it works. If I can't get them out through conventional methods I might try it!

Same here. My kids haven't had them yet but I know they will one of these days.

When I worked as a camp nurse one summer the whole camp was reinfested from the summer before. :scared: I had the lovely job of checking and shampooing heads, including the counselors who were more "vocal" about it than the kids were, LOL. Turns out the lice had survived the winter in the camp's helmets.

My sister got lice when we were in elementary school. It was picture day and her teacher decided to fix everyone hair.....using the same brush. :sad2:

My mother and I got them from her. I don't remember much because I was little but I can remember be miserable and our mother lathering us up with RID that stung like fire and sitting in the bathtub for what felt like hours! :(

Hug to your DD's. :grouphug:

Been there. Done that. In a nutshell, we ended up getting prescription lice shampoo (because the over-the-counter stuff was not working), and a special flourescent hair spray that stuck to the nits (and not the hair) and made it easier to spot and remove them. My wife spent a couple of hours each night for about a week picking nits. We did not have a reoccurance.

We washed DD's sheets and pillowcases each morning in HOT water and made certain that she sat on a light colored sheet whenever she was in the living room.

Good luck.

Use hair product like gel or hairspray in your child's hair. They lice love clean hair but can't handle hair product hair. Honestly I have really really thick curly hair and when I was little my mama washed my hair with white vinegar every Sunday for months it felt like. She would do a treatment with the lice shampoo in the middle of the week and a vinegar rinse on Sundays. It smells awful but the vinegar worked.

If conventional treatments don't work, mayonaise can also do the trick. My cousin had a really stubborn case of lice, and they finally got rid of them with mayonaise. Once school starts make sure your daughters wear their hair up and put some hair spray in it; 80% of my middle school (including most of the teachers) got lice when I was in 6th grade. I didn't, and my teacher was positive that it was the ponytail and hair spray that kept them away. It's harder for them to latch on to tight hair than hair that's down, because there's less surface area I guess.
Make sure to vaccum carpets really well, in addition to any cloth furniture, rugs, linens, etc.

Scratching my head now...
So how do you know you or your child has lice? Do they really itch? Are they obvious when you look?
One of my relatives got them on picture day at school when the teacher used the same brush on all the kids' hair...ew! But I don't think I've ever had them and now that my kids are starting school I figure it will happen sooner or later so I want to know what to look for to nip them in the bud!
