We had a new Children's Librarian start last Dec. She doesnt have as many "story hrs" (2 for 3 age grps) planned as the other librarian did in the past but there will be tons more programs (8)- sign language for babies, amazing americans, family disaster plan, Ronald McDonald get movin, fire safety, Boston Mus of Sci is coming w/their Super-Cold Science program, etc.

The new librarian is having a "Just for Tweens" (10-12) pizza & program 4times over the summer. This age grp seems to be forgotten during their transition from Children's to Young Adult so she's doing something for them. She's having bugs, storm program, snakes & the tweens will join the Super-Cold Sci Prog after their pizza that night.

We're also having the read at home program. Read 15mins 5x's/wk for 5wks of the summer. Hand in your log and come to a party mid-Aug.

I think the Children's Room will be a busy place this summer! What's your library doing?

Wow! I am so jealous. We don't even have a public library in my town. It is ridiculous. I am an English teacher and developed my love for reading due to my local library when I was a child.

It seems that there is a summer program that a lot of the libraries use at the same time. Our library is doing something to do with castles and such this year. Must be to tie in with Harry Potter. But, it doesn't apeal to my 10 1/2 y/o anymore. But she does have a reading list from school. And she is a huge reader so I'm not concerned. It would be nice to have some 'tween' program tho.

goofy4tink - i sent you a PM

the 2994 statewide summer library adventure theme this yr is "Explore Other Worlds" - funded by the local libraries and the MA regional library system - ea library can expand on the theme however they choose

OMG theres not enough room here to write about our library!

We too got a new childrens librarian 2 years ago, and all I can say is, this woman must never sleep!

She started a HUGE Tween program, with poetry, photography, pizza parties, mentoring etc.... It really helps me out since at the rec dept, we usually have younger kids or familes inour programs, this gives the teens something to do.

The younger group at the library is starting the monday night family fun nights which are a blast! Each monday is something different to do etc. and are always fun.

Glad to see other libraries are as popular as mine, and that you all are supporting them!

Brandy
