My dd is intrested in Liberty. Any one have any info? Good or bad????:teacher:

As soon as I hear Liberty University I think of Jerry Falwell.
That can be good or bad, depending! ;)

I think there is a poster here who attends, and hopefully she will see your post and share her experience with you!

Good luck to your dd!

I don't know much at all about it but I think it has a good reputation for its academics. We had a senior student transfer out of here to there 2 years ago and he loves it, absolutely loves it. I've seen a change in him like I have never seen in another person. I am thrilled for his contentment and happiness there.
Best wishes for your DD. This is a big decision for her.

Hope you have your flame suit on - since it is associated with Thomas Road Baptist Church - and is a conservative christian organization, there will be plenty of haters posting.

I have heard it is a great school. Very structured and a strong academically. It's distinctly, unashamedly Christian school.

I am an atheist and thought Falwell was a moron but would not think of flaming the OP.
If that is where your core beliefs lie and you like the academic programs, go for it.

Whatever your religious beliefs, it is a name that will trigger reactions from future employers -- positive AND negative. So she should be prepared for the fact that there may well be long lasting implications of having that listed as the source of her degree when she starts sending out her resume.

I think that is nice of you, suzanna, but I have seen how Liberty threads here have gone in the past and tinatark is correct--it is usually ugly. However, people are keeping their "ugliness" directed at the election right now so the OP may be in luck!

I know two law students there. It is a very conversative Christian university, but the academics are excellent. For their law school, the bar passage rate is around 96% which is outstanding.

there was a thread about this not too long ago. I have to say I disagree with the academic reputation 100%. IMO the academic reputation is zero, nada, zilch. The reputation is it is a good place for conservative Christians to go to college and be with like minded students.

No hugging, no kissing, no nothing. They have an incredible offering of on campus things for the students to do though, including a new flex ski slope opening in a few months for year round use.

Again, IMO the campus is attrocious. Lots of metal prefab buildings set on a stripped mountain top. Lynchburg is a nice city though.

It depends on what your child wants. If Faith is the most important aspect of the education experience then Liberty is likely a good fit. If academics, grad schools, career outside of the church are goals, then there are FAR better choices.

here are the Sat requirements:

Q – What is the minimum GPA and SAT I/ACT score?

A – Liberty’s minimum GPA is a 2.0 on an unweighted 4.0 scale. We also require either an 800 SAT I on the math and critical reading portions or a 17 on the ACT.

One of my favorite professors went there for undergrad. And the Steelers had a tight end from there by the name of Eric Green.

wow:scared1: you all have me scard.. I guess its all up to dd:teacher: . We will going on a visit this summer:cheer2:

Had a lot of friends from college who started at Liberty. When they get tired of the cold they transfer to Palm Beach Atlantic University instead, lol

Go Sailfish. :)

But most of those I know liked Liberty well enough, and it is certainly in a beautiful part of the state. I prefer the warm sun and beach, though, so West Palm Beach it was. :)

Very, very restrictive. If your dd is OK with rules like that she should be fine. I had to pull some of them out....;)

Snowball fights should not be conducted within the residence hall or academic building areas.

[FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman][FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]All students are asked to display mature Christian behavior in social interaction. Proper respect must be shown to all individuals at all times. Harassment of any type will not be tolerated. Handholding is the only appropriate form of personal contact. Improper personal contact or other forms of public display are considered in poor taste. After dusk,
students should not be alone with an individual of the opposite sex in any unlighted area such as the ball fields, parking lots, parked cars, ravine or other wooded areas, etc. This is considered improper social behavior.

At my alma mater we had maids to do those things. Seriously.

I think it all depends on your daughter, but I agree with the other poster who said that potential employers will definitely have a reaction to it, either positive or negative. One other thing to consider is that lots of kids will go on to graduate or professional programs. Most, if not all, well-known programs will not consider this school academically rigorous enough, which would limit her options.

Good luck. What an exciting time for your daughter.

I can't actually dispute you here, but I believe that just as undergraduate schools look at high school GPA's and ACT/SAT scores, graduate schools look not only at college GPA's and rigor, but also graduate entrance exams. If you have a high GPA from Liberty and do well on your LSAT's, MCAT's, or GRE's, I suspect you'll get in any school of your choice. I think if any graduate school weren't considering Liberty graduates, it would be more as a result of the conservative reputation as opposed to academic rigor.

Ds has several friends there, some have hated it and come back home, some love it and have stayed. Our friends here complain alot about no direct airports so they make an 11 hour trip down, older kids car pool. I think their debate team is #1 in the country, I think there was a blurb on cbs news about it once. They have college for a week end in the spring and fall. Here in NY another friend of ds just came back as she hated it and only lasted a week, Religious wise if you are not used to this was also a reason another friend left, his dad is a pentecostal preacher. Also the biggest store is a wal mart, not much to do off campus, you have to pay for things extra to do on campus etc. And of course all the rules. No smoking, drugs, alcohol, the dating stuff, one of ds friends , a couple, are both juniors and engaged, dont know what that is like, I guess they stare at each other alot, lol. One of ds friends is in the nursing program and she likes it. Also you need a pastor recommendation I think. Others from the ds school have gone to Palm Beach, like the other poster mentioned, Southeastern in Fl, Cedarville in Ohio, Messiah and Grove City and Eastern in Penn., out of 40 in ds class that just graduated I think about 8 are going to Liberty. 7 counting the one who just dropped out. Best of luck to your dd, its a big decision for sure.
