Liberty Tree, Tony's or Plaza Restaurant?

I need a TS at MK - haven't ever eaten at any of the above choices. Is one better than the other?

Liberty Tree Tavern

The Plaza Restaurant

Tony's Town Square

We basically just need something where I can get out of the heat with the 3 kids on a day when I will be alone in the parks with the kids. I don't want to even think of trying to juggle Cosmic Ray's with only one set of adult hands! LOL

My oldest and youngest like a wide variety of foods. My middle one will eat kids fare - chicken nuggets, pizza, PB&J and maybe spaghetti (he eats it at home, but I worry about him not liking a different sauce). From the looks of the kids' menus, he could find something at any of the places.

What is the best choice for a quiet, slow-paced lunch that will allow us all to cool down and re-fuel a bit?

We really liked Liberty Tree, but I think you can't go wrong with any of them. The only caution I would give you about LTT is the bathroom is upstairs and it is really small. If you decide to eat here, try to remember to hit the bathroom elsewhere BEFORE you check in for your ADR.

I have been to all three and from my experience Plaza is more laid back and quieter than the other two. My very picky daughter loves it and they have great food. The bonus is that each kid gets a free Mickeylodeon ice cream.

Any of your choices would work, but just to ya know: none of these will be quiet- you're inside the park!! But you will be able to sit down and cool off. :cool2:

As a logistical point: Are you leaving the park after lunch to go back to your resort? Then Tony's is the closest to the exit. On the other hand, if you will continue in the park for a while, the Plaza is close to the Hub, and LTT is closest to the "left side" of the park. Sorry, but in the Florida sun and heat I just want the place that requires the least amount of walking.:rolleyes1 I can usually find something I want to eat no matter what restaurant I'm at.

That being said, LTT is one of our favourites at MK.

Thanks for the opinions! Sounds like we can't go wrong with any of our choices.

We won't be leaving the park at all - we;re sort of stuck there until DH gets back from his convention at Orange County CC with the car. LOL We're starting our day with breakfast at Wilderness Lodge (Whispering Canyon Cafe) at 7:30, and I plan on bringing snacks for the kids for the morning and getting a later lunch ressie.

We aren't staying on Disney property, so no dining plan. We'll need an a/c break though! I am wondering what the FL sunshine is going to feel like in comparison to the very chilly spring we've had here in PA.

I think I am going to print out the menus and take this one to the kids for a decision. I would be happy with any of them. :)

There may be one more pro for one or two of the restaurants. It may require a new thread.

Does anyone know if you can see the afternoon parade from any of these? Since OP is looking to do a later lunch, they may be able to stay in the A/C and watch. Perhaps the upstairs of LTT??

Robo, somebody, help us out here, please.

Excellent question - I'll post a new thread asking this specifically. That would kill two birds with one stone, wouldn't it?

We sat upstairs at LTT near a window, and there isn't a good view of the street below (at least not good enough to see a parade). You could see it from the steps on the porch outside, but you would have to finish your meal and claim your spot; it seemed to be a popular place to stand.

On to the food. DH had the pot roast. It was good, a bit heavy, but definitely good. I had the veggie pot pie. It wasn't great. The veggies were canned or frozen, not fresh. It was a bit heavy. The famous Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake was also just OK. The kids meals were really good though (turkey with mashed potatoes and nice chicken noodle soup), definitely better than other places. So if going with kids, I would consider it as a good option and perhaps order something a little less heavy from the adult menu.

As far as the parade, if you go to LTT the areas around it start to get roped off before the parade. around the corner from LTT is also the handicapped seating for the parade. We usually park my wheelchair, go eat lunch at LTT and then go about 30 minutes before the parade starts etc. You could actually be coming out of the restraunt as the parade goes by etc, but you cant block the way of diners etc.

Its so hot I usually just get the colony salad.

We have been to the Plaza too. Very casual and relaxed, great ice cream, but I do feel they try to rush you in and out of there a bit more than they do at LTT.

We have never ate at LT but we have Tony's & The Plaza. Tony's was not good. We loved The Plaza.

I've been to all three, and I'd suggest either Plaza or Liberty Tree in the summer / warmer months. In high heat, Plaza would win because the menu is so light and it's a great spot for ice cream. Anything low 80's and below, Liberty Tree would win because we enjoy the food, we're usually in that area around lunchtime and our kids love the theming. (And LTT does offer a great salad!) We like Tony's, but 1) the food is too heavy in the middle of a hot day (but good for lunch in February!); and 2) it's not centrally located, so if it's hot, that's some extra walking in the heat.

Have a great trip! :wizard:

Definately The Plaza. :)
1. You mentioned you will be paying OOP - The Plaza is a very reasonably priced TS place.
2. The food is excellent - yummy sandwiches and salads - excellent fries, and crazy good desserts. My DD was thrilled when she ordered the PB&J sandwich and when it arrived it was a REAL sandwich (not an uncrustable) and it was shaped like Mickey.;) It came with a side of fresh fruit - she was in heaven:cloud9:. DS had the grilled cheese with fries and loved it. The Mickey ice cream for kiddo was really cute.

ETA: We have eaten at Tony's and it was terrible - fortunately we were on the Dining Plan - if I was paying OOP I would have really been upset because it was an expensive, terrible meal. We haven't eaten at LTT since the characters left - we liked the experience, but didn't love the food which is why we haven't been back for dinner - Thinking about trying it for lunch in a few weeks.

Another vote for the Plaza. The kids meals are really nice and the bonus sundae at the end is perfect. If you sit along the window, you can see the parade but not a great view. But if you finish close to parade time, you'll still see 80% of it since the majority of the characters are on floats which are way above people's heads. The only thing you miss by not being on the curb is the dancers, and they get boring kind of fast!

We've only eaten at Tony's (dinner) and LTT (lunch). We thought both were good; not great out-of-this-world food. The type of food served at Tony's could be a bit fancier than LTT just because LTT is "classic down home American fare" type food and Tony's is Italian.

I would go with the Plaza - it has a very easy and relaxed menu plus good ice cream if you like that.

I only would go to Tony's for lunch, I find their dinner service and food to be horrible. Liberty Tree is better for lunch than dinner.

THanks all - I showed the kids the menus, and they voted fro Plaza (because of the Mickey ice cream!). Actually, the little guy voted for LTT, only because it's close to Haunted Mansion (his favorite!).

So I think we'll go ahead and book the Plaza - it sounds like it will be just fine for us!
