I was lucky enough to go with some family, about a week ago (beginning of July) to Disney! Unfortunately we were staying off property, at the Nickelodeon Suites. However, the concierge there was helpful in getting us a reservation at Liberty Tree Tavern at the last minute!
We ate at Liberty Tree on a Thursday night. Long story short...we spent the evening at Epcot, then hopped on the monorail to make our way over to MK. I found out that this takes much longer when you have a bunch of family with you! Anyways, I'm just telling you this so you know that we thought our dinner reservation was at 8:15, and we got there at 8:30...and thought they definitely must have given our table away! However, after much discussion with a very patient CM, we realized that in fact our reservations was at 8:50, and we were early!
We got a big round table in the back of the restaurant. I liked the fact that we could all see eachother well. It was a little busy, with waiters and guests walking all around us, but we still found the seating/atmosphere to be pretty comfortable.
Now onto the food! All-you-can-eat dinner that reminded me of Thanksgiving! To give a little mroe insight, here's what everyone (by age) thought:
DU (uncle) 50ish- has an expensive taste, but I think he was pretty happy with the food.
DA (aunt) 50ish- is a vegetarian, so this was not the best place for her to eat. i realize she could have called ahead, but this was sort of last minute and she did not. she ate the salad, which she thought was ok, the bread, and the green beans. i think she was still hungry afterwards. so if you are a vegetarian, make sure you order something special!
DD (dad) 50ish- ate everything, but definitely liked the meat the most!
DB 17- enjoyed everything also, especially the mashed potatoes! he is also a big meat eater, and i think he liked the quantity of food.
DC (cousin) 17- same!
DC 12- she LOVED the mashed potatoes, i think she ate twice as many as me! they are homemade there, and we could tell!
DC 8- ate almost the entire bowl of green beans..for the whole table! she loved the characters, too!
overall, everyone was pleased with the food. i loved the bread, as well as the strawberry vinagrette on the salad...that says a lot, because i really don't like salad very much at all!
here's my one big recommendation..if you have kids, or just enjoy the characters, GO AT THE END OF THE NIGHT!!! we were not rushed, and we saw all of the characters sooo many times! they even came back so much that my 8 year old cousin was too busy eating to want to talk to them! it was really cute, too...chip and dale were playing tag, goofy and pluto were dancing around our table. there were only tables left besides ours, and the characters stayed out for about 5 minutes, basically putting on a show just for us! have fun if you get a chance to go!
so the next day (friday) we ventured off to epcot around noon, and ate lunch at the living seas! we walked right up, just on a whim, and were able to get a table for 8 with only about a 20 minute wait! for those of you who have never been to the living seas restaurant, i love the atmosphere right when you walk in. it makes you feel like you're underwater! we got a big semi-circle table all the way against the back wall...the furthest from the aquarium! but it was still so neat.
the food was pretty good....the steak was very tender, and i loved the cheesy potato thing that was served with it. however, my carrots were a bit under cooked, which was disappointing when i only had 2 small ones! we all commented on how limited the menu choices were...for such a pricey restaurant, we thought they would have more to offer.
for those of you with kids...my 2 cousins wanted steak, but were able to get a kid's portion (which i don't think was on the kid's menu). theirs came with different veggies...mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli, i believe.
we also got the fried calimari...it tasted good, and came out on plates with cute chinese take out boxes!
i have to say, though, our favorite things were the make-your-own-sundaes! of all of us at the table (only two being kid-aged) 5 of us got the sundae, and we loved it! it was small, so we didn't feel overloaded when we went back into the sun, but it tasted good!
OVERALL FOR LIVING SEAS: i'm not sure if we would go back for lunch again...maybe we would do it for dinner if we were on the dining plan. however, i could see going back again, maybe for just drinks and appetizers, or dessert. the atmosphere was fabulous, and i would deal with the (i think) slightly overpriced food for the quality, just to be dining with the fish again.
