Libbys Trip Day 12 Animal Kingdom
Cast Me 43 in love with Mickey Mouse
DH (of 20 years) 43
DS 14 cynical teenager
DD 11 a stroppy little madam
Location 14 day holiday at Windsor Palms with 1 night trip to Royal Pacific Resort
Date August 11th to 25th 2005
Monday August 22nd
We had breakfast in the villa today and then make a latish start to go to Animal Kingdom and get there in time for lunch. Were certainly very weary now from nearly two weeks of ridiculous heat and doing too much.
We go to Pizzafari. DD, who wont eat her pizza crusts (at 11!) decides to have breadsticks which are basically pizza crust (I cant work that one out!).
After lunch we have 10 minutes to get to the Festival of the Lion King, but we manage to get there and are seated in the elephant section. As we are all still tired we plump for the back row so that we can lean against the railings while we sit. We all find that the improvements that have been made to the theatre since our last trip are very good the air conditioning was particularly welcome. As always the show was superb. Im especially impressed with the bird girl.
After Lion King we rush over to Pocahontas. A very strange little show that weve not seen before. The girl playing Pocahontas wasnt a very good likeness and the twiggy tree (we nicknamed him Kindling) was very irritating, but the animals were cute. It must have taken a long time to train them for this show.
Today seems very reminiscence of our recent MGM trip because we now rush off to find a third show. Flights of Wonder is another show weve always passed by. We get there a couple of minutes after it has started but there is plenty of room in the theatre. A very impressive show but a couple of things did grate. (The actor playing the idiot and the constant message about recycling. At home we have a very good recycling refuse collection but at the villa everything went in together. I think I saw some recycling bins in AK). The birds in this show were very good. I even had Frasier the crane brush my head with his wing as he flew over the audience. It was a very informative show but I think it would have been improved by not having the supporting actor.
We now wander over to Kali River Rapids and collect fast passes for one hour later. We go and found some ice lollies and watch the fish in a cool underwater viewing area while Philip takes the video camera to the car. We then had a short browse around the shops before yomping our way back to Kali River. We are seated on a raft with another family which include a couple of rather startled looking preschool children. The smallest child has to sit in a seat with an extra bar in front of her(Id noticed these special seats before I dont think they were on every raft.) We stash our bum bags in the middle of the raft and were off. The ride was fun and we do get wet, but not as soaked as we did in 2002.
Its now 3.45 and weve all wilted. We dont hang around for the 4pm parade as we want to try to get to Spectromagic tonight (the last chance well have before we fly home.)
It takes a while for us to waddle to the entrance and get a tram to the car park so its nearly 5pm before we get back to the villa. We all crash out and start watching Whats Eating Gilbert Grape on T.V. (not Johnny Depp again! I was really impressed by Leonardo di Caprio in this film.) After the film we decide not to go to Spectromagic this trip DD and I are disappointed but we just dont have the energy now and we have a 9am ADR at Crystal Palace tomorrow. Instead we drive up to Formosa Gardens Boulevard and go to TGI Fridays. We have a 20 minute wait for a table and the kids are almost asleep by the time we get seated (missing Spectromagic was a good move I think.) Its a nice meal but the restaurant seems very ordinary compared to the UK branches weve been to.
We pop into the supermarket for milk and juice. I take a photo of a model of a giant panda that reminds me of Nooky Bear. Its such a shame that Splendid China has shut as its left this shopping centre, and the supermarket in particular, looking very strange with oriental style roofs and décor.
As we drive back to the villa we realise that the air conditioning in the car has packed up. It hadnt been cooling very well for the last few days but now it wasnt cooling at all. I plan to phone Dollar in the morning.
We sit and unwind with a bag of almond M&Ms before heading off to bed.
