Libby’s Trip – Day 11 All Stars Resort, Epcot (DIS meet)

Cast – Me 43 in love with Mickey Mouse
DH (of 20 years) 43
DS 14 cynical teenager
DD 11 a stroppy little madam

Location – 14 day holiday at Windsor Palms with 1 night trip to Royal Pacific Resort

Date – August 11th to 25th 2005

Sunday August 21st

We all get up slowly today. DD goes for a swim. Somehow I manage to break the toilet handle (it’s a little plastic thing that just snaps in my hand). I phone the management company and initially get an answer phone, before the message ends an English woman takes the call (I assume the management company are a husband and wife team). She’s a bit stroppy with me for using this number – it’s the one plastered all over the kitchen and the one I used yesterday. She doesn’t know when they’ll get someone out to me as they’re going out this afternoon. Obviously the husband is more aware of customer service and is with us very soon. Snapping toilet handles seems to be an ongoing problem for him as he carries loads of spares in his van. Within half an hour we have two new, metal handles (as he checked if the other loos had plastic handles before he left.)

Today we want to revisit the All Star Resorts and take some photos. (Especially one of the kids by the Mickey statue at ASSports which we have taken on each trip). As we are going to Epcot this evening we decide to go and park there and then get the resort bus.

Once parked the AS Movie bus is the first to arrive so we take that and start by taking some photos of Buzz and Woody. We then walk through the car parks and via AS Music to the Sports resort. This is where we spent the last two trips and I really wish we’d spent the extra money on two rooms here instead of the villa (lovely though it is). I’m quite jealous of the guests who are staying here.

We go to the food court. There is only a limited choice at lunchtime but we’re all able to find something we like. My meal of Parmesan Chicken needs cooking, so I am given a pager (I don’t remember this procedure from before) and go and pay for my meal. After lunch we carry on taking photos and then go and spend far more than I had intended in the gift shop. After this we go back to the food court for ice-cream before going out to get the Epcot bus. As it’s now the afternoon the buses are being shared between the three All Star resorts, so it is quite full when we get on but we quickly loses passengers at the Music and Movie Resorts before heading back to Epcot.

At Epcot we visit a few things that we haven’t done. First we do Ellen’s Energy Adventure. As we enter the pre-show film is already part way through and coming in from the bright sunlight I am temporarily blind. I hover by the entrance as it would be dangerous to enter only partly filled area as it takes a long time before I can make out the shapes of people standing or sitting on the floor. We enter the theatre and off we go. I think we all dozed a little on this!

We then wandered over to Norway but Maelstrom was closed with a technical problem so we had a look in the shop there. We then go to China and are quite impressed with the 360 film. As we walk outside we are followed by a troupe of child acrobats. We sit in the blazing sun and watch these very talented children perform their show.

We carry on to the American Adventure. As we enter some Korean opera singers are performing. We wait for the American Adventure show to start as we think we have enough time before this DIS meet. We wait for much longer than we had planned but go into the show anyway. I was keen to see Benjamin Franklin walk upstairs – it’s supposed to be technically impressive. Well it wasn’t entertainingly impressive, it just looks like he hops upstairs swinging his non-hopping leg.

Needless to say we are rather late getting to the Rose and Crown. There is a lot of lime green outside the pub but no-one who looks like they’re waiting for anyone. I have a peep inside but am too shy to spend very long there. We sit down on a bench outside to plan what we’ll do next when Theresa approached me and asked if my green ribbon was a sign of the DIS and then invites us inside where some others are sheltering from the heat. We spend a pleasant half hour or so chatting to Theresa, Tony and Simon V. But DS is in need of food so we say our farewells and go in search of sustenance.

We end up at the Electric Umbrella and decide this time to buy a kids meal for DD. This was such a success a kids meal was just the right size for her (and she likes the Mickey serving plate!) – I’m so cross that kids meals are meant for the under 10s now and resolve to buy kids meals for her whenever we eat counter service from now on.

We go to visit Mexico (and ride “It’s a Small Mexico”) before heading to the lagoon to get a spot for Illuminations. Obviously we’ll not have such a good view as last time we were in WDW when we had the good fortune to be able to share someone’s Illumination’s Cruise, but at least this time DH would be able to watch without feeling he should video it.

After the fireworks finish (I love that smell!) we head back with the hoards, but oddly by the time we get to the tram the crowds have vanished and we hop straight onto a waiting tram. We get back to the villa by 10pm and watch TV for a bit. Our favourite programme of the whole trip was the Appliance Direct advert – especially the way Sam looked at the spoon by the dishwasher – I LOVE APPLIANCES!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

Thanks for the report, I enjoyed it, Libby. It's a small Mexico made me laugh!! Shame Maelstrom was broken, I love that ride.

I wish I could take credit for "It's a small Mexico" but I read it on someone's report years ago and now it's our family name for that ride.
