I'm hosting a Lia Sophia jewelry party on a Saturday afternoon (1:30pm) in October. It's past the lunch hour so what would you serve? Bagels? Just chips? Appetizers and/or finger foods?

Also, what are your tips for getting the most people to attend?

Any other tips?

I'd probably do appetizers and some easy finger desserts. People aren't going to be expecting a big spread at that time of the day, I don't think. I wouldn't.

Make a nice punch, have coffee & tea.

Some appetizers, some desserts, soda, punch and wine. This is what my friend served when she had hers.

I've been to 3 Lia Sophia parties over the summer.

First one was in the afternoon around 1ish, and she had potato salad, macaroni salad, home-made mini-wraps (turkey, ham, cheese), soda, iced tea and cake/coffee.

Second one at 7 pm, and she had mini pizza bagels, chips, vegetable-macaroni salad, soda and cake/coffee.

Third one was at 8, and she went to Costco and bought the shrimp cocktail platter, the mini-hor d'oeuvres platter (franks-in-blankets, potato knishes, spinach rolls, and Jamaican beef patty-type things), a cut fruit platter, and a vegetable dip platter. She also had beer and wine in addition to the usual soft drinks and coffee/tea.

Invite tons of people, because some people won't show up even if they plan on it. Invite people from your kids school, even teachers if you feel friendly enough with them. Tell friends to bring their teenage daughters, grandmothers, anyone, and that whoever brings a friend gets a "surprise". It could be anything, as long as it'll only cost you a few dollars (think 2 for 1 stuff at the dollar store).

Talk about the party a lot before you have it, get people excited about the beautiful jewelry, let them know it's guaranteed for life, if you have any friends who are getting married, suggest she come to the party to take a look at possible brides maids gifts of jewelry. Sound excited to be having the party, make your house "the" place to be on Lia Sophia afternoon. If you have some teen girls to babysit, offer babysitting services while moms attend the party.

Think of people you'd invite to a wedding, and invite those women. Send out lots of invitations, even if you don't know the women well, because the ones who don't get an invitation because you think you don't know them well and they won't want to, they'll STILL say "why didn't I get an invitation" to others. People like to be included, so give invite them even if you think they won't come.

Call people to remind them. I was late to one party because I forgot about it.

Have flashy invitations, in addition to the Lia Sofia ones. GAMES FUN REFRESHMENTS BEAUTIFUL JEWELRY COME SEE
Hand them out at school, scouts, your check-out lady at the supermarket, your school crossing guard, your mailman to give to his wife...trust me, your house won't be overflowing with people, as many won't come, but you've upped your chances of having a good turn-out.

Good luck, and HAVE FUN. I love Lia Sophia jewelry.

I'm going to one this weekend. My friend is having coffee, tea, cake, appetizers, wine. I've never been to one of these before, so I'm so excited! I'm bringing my DD (16) with me, I'm sure she's going to want everything. :scared1:

Wow, really? I hate these parties. Won't ever have one. My sister has them and I reluctantly go. I won't go to anyone else's and hate being invited to these parties. If you want to have me over, that's great, and I'll come to your party. If you're having me over to sell things to me, then thanks, but no thanks. Plus, this jewelry is not real and it's expensive.

I won the door prize when my sister had one of these parties. I told my DH that we'll give the necklace to his secretary after I found out that you can buy the same stuff on ebay for under $10.

I have to agree with everything RUDisney says. It especially burns my bacon to be invited to someone's house for a purchase party when they've never before (or after) invited me to anything social. So I'm good enough to buy from you, but not good enough to invite me over for coffee? Thanks for putting me in my proper place.

Geez. I'm just wondering if Aisling is a Lia Sophia rep. There is no way I would invite my postal carrier (who is female) or the checkout lady at the grocery store. I wouldn't invite anyone I hardly know to my house.

OP, I would put out a fruit platter with a dip. I can't remember the details of the recipe, but I found one on allrecipes that is great. It has whipped cream, I think pudding, and Bailey's, or you could do a store bought one. I would also have some desserts and drinks. I wouldn't do a whole lot.

My neighbor is a rep and she does very well. She is in HR and does the hiring and recruiting for a very large company and she told me she is almost at the point that she can quit her HR job.

I feel the same way. I too would not invite random people I talk to (the mail carrier, the cashiers etc.) to my house for a buy party.

OP- Put out some chips, a veggie platter, a fruit platter and maybe some hot hor'douvres (sp?) from Costco.

Lia Sophia must be going around our neighborhood full force!:rotfl:

You're joking with all of this right?

No, I wasn't. I've never had a party, but this is the advice given by the Lia Sophia representative. Maybe that's why I never had a party...just couldn't invite people I wasn't close to. But some people have no problem with it.

Where I live, women love these things. I know some moms at school who were actually insulted that they weren't invited.

Just providing info from my neck of the woods, which may or may not apply to the OPs situation.:)

No wonder
Not to be a downer here, but that stuff is WAY over priced. I get more compliments on jewelery that costs uner $10 that I can get at a local trade type store.

I agree it's expensive! But they keep reminding you of how well the stuff is made, and that if you keep your receipt, there's a lifetime guarantee.

It IS made better than what you can get for $20 at Target, but it I agree it's overpriced. Some of the pieces are really beautifu, though.

Yes, they are. Just another one of those annoying home shows to me ;) Even worse......party light.....
One I actually like is Pampered Chef. Or lately the new one.....Uppercase Living.

I've been to many home parties, and wine and beer is always served here. It's a fact that people are more apt to spend money if they are a little tipsy! :thumbsup2
