After everything we went through via the rescue dog we tried to adopt, that turned out to be a mean/bitter. We still want to add to our family- however, dh is adamant that it will not be an adult dog now (I still have bite marks from the rescue dog from 2 weeks ago).
We currently have a 1 yr old Shih Tzu and we know we want another small breed dog. There are certain breeds I prefer over others- but ultimately it's about finding the right furbaby for our family.
Anyhow, I a women from work told me her friend has Lhasa/Pekingese mixed puppies. I did a google and I can't really get a feel for the size or look. The parents in this case are each purebred- mom being the lhasa and dad the pekingese. Anyone know how big they might get, the looks.....I got to see a pic, but they look more lhasa like, but the human mom says she thinks they're going to be more like a pekingese. Also, I have no exp. w/ the pekingese bred- what are their temperments and major health issues of the breed? I'm familiar w/ lhasa's- and they are so similar to shih tzu's.

My parents have a Pekingese and she is a nasty little dog. They tend to get very protective of who they decide they like and are not pleasant to anyone else. Being a mix you may not have that but we have with 3 different dogs.

My sister got a Pekingese a few years ago, and it's honeslty one of the cutest and sweetest dogs I have ever meet. A year later my parents bought a Pekingese because my sister's dog was so cute. Both of the dogs are very friendly and well tempered. And they never bark.

My sister takes her's eveywhere - it sits quietly in her backpack with it's head sticking out. People always ask "Is that a real dog?" :) She is happy to have stangers pet her.

They are on the smaller size for dogs. You do have to keep them brushed/groomed, but my family keeps their hair pretty short, which I think looks better anyways.

I recommend them.

My sister's dog Zoe looks just like this

My Shelby is that exact mix. And she is AWESOME!!! She looks just like a Shih Tzu and weighs about 13 lbs. She has a great temperment. I have two little kids myself and I run a daycare from home and she just goes with the flow and isn't bothered by much. Her only "fault" is that she jumps on people when they come into the house. But it is only because she is a love  .

I've never figured out how to post pictures but I'd be happy to email you one directly if you are interested.

This past Saturday, I just got a 6 week old maltese/poodle mix (a malitpoo). She is tiny, and will prob be about 6-7 pounds fullt grown. She has a maltese body type and a maltese face structure and eyes, but she is caramel colored with a more wavy type of hair. She (Delta) seriously looks like a stuffed bear, she is more than adorable! So far, she is very smart, is already doing WONDERFUL with potty training, and is as sweet as can be. Poodles are some of the smartest dogs out there, and so far, she is the best dog! I highly recommend! These are very sweet-natured, yet playful dogs!

Someone sold you an underage dog, or did you rescue? It's illegal in most states to release that young - I would run far far away from anyone releasing that early. Course, I wouldn't support anyone making money of mutts, either.

Kilee, I don't blame your DH on wanting a younger puppy this time. I hope you're not considering buying a mutt from someone who breeds them, though. It's a very sad practice for all involved. There are, however, lots of rescues and shelters that get in small mutts from accident breedings or when a "breeder" gets out of the business and dumps their poor pups. I also know that you've had a bad exp with rescue and may just want to go the breeder route this time - I understand that and would feel the same in a lot of ways.

I would highly encourage you to really do your research for a breeder and breed, though. Esp since you'll be adding to your family of dogs =) I have a Shih Tzu, too, and just adore the breed.

A cross between a Pekinese and Lhasa will be smal; Lhasa's and Shih Tzu's are very similar. However, a cross never has guarantees - it could have all the bad traits from both breeds and huge genetic issues as well. That's why I wouldn't knowingly purchase a mutt - no guarantees plus I'd be contributing to the mutt "breeding" business and the horrible people benefitting from it. But I would rescue, as there is little money involved and I'm saving a life. Make sense?

I SO hope you find the perfect 2nd dog for your family. You deserve it after all you've been through so far!!
