hi there, thanks to all i have learned on the dis, we are flying into LGB 2 months from today...we have flown into lax on our two trips, and while we have had no problems whatsoever, i keep hearing how great lgb is, and we got our flight for the same price flying into it...

First, how much closer is it than lax...is it really only a 20 min. drive to anaheim??? If so, then :cool1:

Also, if is is so much closer, does anyone know why when i go to super shuttle, the price for transportation from both airports is the same price??? Just trying to decide what our best transportation route is, there will be 7 of us...thanks for anything and everything you can tell me...

Yes, it really is only a 20 minute drive.

I believe the price for Supershuttle is the same because they get less business from LGB. If they lowered the price because of distance, they might not make enough to cover their own costs.

I always rent a car though. Usually I can get a great rate that would be equal or better than the cost of a shuttle. Plus, I prefer being on my own timetable.

I've never had any trouble at LAX either. I choose my airport based on the cost of airfare, not the convenience of either airport. But I believe what makes LGB great is that you can get in and out in much less time than LAX. By the time you'd just reach baggage claim at LAX, you'd probably already have your bags and be in a shuttle or rental car at LGB. Its just so small and compact. Plus less traffic means shorter lines.

Got2travel: Can I ask where you rent your car? So far I haven't found any great deals for the time we're going to be there April 22-26th. I found better rates on Maui than in So. Cal!

We did two one-day rentals from Alamo.

The rental prices for our trip were insane, so we were going to take a car service at about $100 each way...

Yesterday, I tried Alamo again for the full week at about $450. However getting a one day to bick up at Long Beach and drop off at downtown disney was downright cheap! I used the costco 25% off plus free upgrade.

We're doing a one day-rental picking up at one alamo and dropping off at the other between LGB and Downtown Disney. The total cost for both days (midsize vehicle) was about $80.

Hmm...rates do seem to be high for that time. Best I could find was a midsize at Alamo for $127.37 including all fees. I used Walmart code 430710 and coupon AD6969JDA found on mousesavers. The coupon code states it expires on 3/31 but the web accepted it so I think it would be good. I've found that the websites are pretty good at telling you if a code is invalid, so if it's accepting it they must have extended the offer.

I always book a car so that I have one reserved but then I check my rates often. Usually within 2 weeks of my departure rates drop significantly. If I find a lower rate, I make a new booking, then cancel my original.

Too bad you're not arrving on 4/23, Alamo has a great weekend rate of $10 per day for compact through premium cars. I have a premium car for $36.35 total for next weekend, Thurs - Sun.

That's a good idea! I want to rent a car so I can visit a few of my favorite off site restaurants and hit the beach for a few hours, but I don't want to pay $35 a day and a parking fee on top of that.
I think I'll check out the Costco offers.

Excellent suggestion.

Yes, it is about a 20 min. drive from LGB to Anaheim. We did that route last year to go from Anaheim to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Before we knew it, we were there! This is why for our upcoming trip, we decided to fly into LGB.

When we go (in 12 days!!!) there will also be 7 of us. We are renting a minivan from Enterprise at the LGB airport. It is costing us $307 USD for the week after using a code from Mousesavers -- the cheapest out of all the car rentals I checked with when I booked a month ago.

Highly recommend the minivan when you have 7 in your group. My reasons:

- The per person charge to take the super shuttle would total up to quite a lot of money for a return trip to the airport.
- You can use the car to drive into the parks instead of using the ART, a fee that also adds up for 7 people. If you bought a hopper thru BCAA/AAA, daily parking at the Disney lot is included in your ticket. Otherwise parking would be $12/day -- still cheaper than using the ART return for 7 people.
- You can drive to other restaurants to eat. Being from Canada, I need a Cheesecake Factory fix.
- You can drive to some fabulous shopping. Again, being from Canada, I need a Target, factory mall, JC Penny fix. Also need to get to the Grove to visit the American Girl store to buy outfits for my DD's AG dolls.

So, do you go on the Costco site to get the code? We are renting a car from LGB at the end of May and I am all about a discount. :thumbsup2

I figured it out. I had booked through Budget originally but with the Costco discount going through Alamo was $35 less. Thanks for the info. I can't believe I didn't know about this feature through Costo and we have been renting cars for awhile without using them!

Yes, I followed a link from the Costco Travel part of their website. The ID code was 7014627 and the coupon code was AU2291VYT, but it all auto-populated when i used the "Click to Book" button.
