I am finally giving in and letting my DS get texting on his phone. The phone of his dreams is the LG XENON which is expensive unless you get a new contract. He is a great kid has made honor society, helps out without being asked around the house...I really would like to do this for him for XMAS. Does anyone know where I can find one (even refurb) a bit cheaper?

My DD19 has one and loves hers. We got it as part of a contract renewal so the cost wasn't too high. If it were not for the renewal price, she would still be texting on her old phone.

I know that you can sometimes buy them on eBay. Or try craigslist. You might not find too many refurbs because the phone is still relatively new. There are some websites that sell "recycled" phones )do a goole search) but I can't recommend any from personal experience. We always go with the contract renewal prices with our carrier.

BTW, if you get one, go to a phone store or Best Buy and get a screen protector for it. They scratch easily.

If you are a mypoints member you can extend your contract for 2 more years and get the phone free.:cheer2:

I'll try googling-thanks!

One word of advise when you get the texting plan. Make sure you get unlimited texting. When my son first got it I thought I would save money and just get him the 200 text per month at $5.00 just to save the $15 extra that unlimited would cost. Well the first month my bill was and extra $150 due to text. :scared1: Yeah boy saving that $15 was a good idea

I'll be a dissenter here.

My dd12 and I both got the Xenon when my contract renewed in May. It was ok at first, with quite a few glitches (we'd had to trade dd's in 2 or 3 times), but then it leveled out. However, after a while (more than 30 days unfortunately) I realized that I didn't dislike my Xenon, I HATED it. So I bought an iPhone, out of contract. (Fortunately, I had a $150 gift card for switching to Verizon FIOS and two $50 gift cards that were rebates from purchasing the Xenon.) Wow, what a difference in the quality of the touch screen.

Eventually, my dd started hating the Xenon. She didn't like the touch screen. She looked six ways to sunday to get a QWERTY keyboard phone for an inexpensive price. Not happening. Interesting note is that our former sitter ended up with a new Samsung phone that she hated, so she traded with my dd. She likes the Xenon, but it's only been a week.

My co-worker also bought 2 Xenons during their b1g1 promo for her an her ds11. About 45 days later, she went back to her old phone, as did her son.

So I don't know. The Xenon seems to be SO popular and so well rated by consumers, but 4 of the 5 people I know that had one quit using it.

I'm torn. The phone is so popular, I think about listing it on CraigsList, but how do I sell something I hated so much?

I am search for a good priced to. I am not own contract with my carrier and do not want to sign a 2 year agreement. I love my plan. Plus they make get at least 20.00 or more data plan. That is not happening. I don't text. All I have is the internet on my phone. that's all I need.

All I can tell you is UNLIMITED TEXT!!!!!!!! Otherwise you will be sorry. Also, I have AT&T, I invested $5 a month on the parental controls that allow you to control their purchases and downloads. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way after a bill that went $150 over the normal cost. Good Luck!

Can you recommend a good keyboard phone? I just want something new and fun for him. I heard him mention the xenon so thought I'd look into it

We just got Xenons at Costco last week. DH and I were upgrading so ours were $50 each after rebates. DS 13 was being added to our contract so his was free. They were having a two day sale on Oct. 1-2. Otherwise his would have been $30 after rebates. Maybe they'll have another sale??

So far we all like the Xenon. However, we're not techies at all so we have pretty low expectations. We just call and text but so far so good. As for DS, everyone seems to think his new Xenon is very cool so it seems to be a desired phone within his group of friends. (I'm guessing they know more about these things than I do!)

Seems like the Propel and the Neon are popular with the middle school set. However, the Neon came out after the Xenon (I know this because dd would have picked it), so there's no price break yet. The Propel has been out for a while, but eBay prices were still pretty close to retail.

I was listening to 5 7th grade girls discuss phones. The one wanted a Neon, another wanted the Propel. One was going to save her money. I recommended she wait a year or so before she tries to buy one. They're just so expensive out of contract!!
