I'm in the process of new appliances for the kitchen. Last to buy will be a new stainless steel refrigerator with french doors. I got an email from best buy today for an LG at 50% off...25 cubic feet, stainless steel, two freezer drawers for less than $1200!

I'm poised to buy, but would like some opinions on LG...I haven't owned their appliances before.

****************************

Well, after reading the mixed reviews on this thread, and calling around and not being able to actually "see" the refrigerator anywhere, and having the guy who installed my new dishwasher today tell me, "If I got an LG for free I wouldn't give it to my best friend." I backed out. Yep, the price was fabulous, but I just wimped out.

So, I had DH take me to Lowes and they had a Samsung ( which was the brand I really wanted anyway ) on sale from $2399 to $1599, PLUS a 10% Military discount AND a $25 coupon I just got in the mail AND free shipping.

It'll be here Thursday...:thumbsup2

I love my french door refrigerator from them. We had a problem with it this past summer (after almost 3 years) and when we called they told me it was a problem they were aware of, so they came out a couple days later and fixed it at no charge. The service guy was really nice, the customer service people were very nice.

I don't have LG kitchen app., but I have the front-loading washer and dryer. They have been great! Had them for 2 years and haven't had any issues. They are quiet and I thankfully haven't had to use the warranty for any problems. No complaints. Sounds like you found quite a deal:thumbsup2

We are also looking at fridges. We are also possibly interested in (I'm assuming the same one) an LG fridge too - also under $1200.

One of the things that we heard - is LG's are made in Korea - and it is very difficult to get parts if they are needed. We heard...although it was from a store that did not sell LG's...that it may take 5 or 6 weeks to get parts.

We really wanted to look at this particular model from Best Buy - they simply did not have one in the store to look at.

I do not know anyone who has one.

Go and look through Consumer Reports, you'll get the best information there.

I would really research it and get reviews of the exact type of refridgerator you are buying. We bought an LG refridgerator and have had nothing but problems with it. That certainly doesn't mean you'll have problems but we personally will never buy an LG again. We've had ours since April and have had a repairman out 3 times. The first time we had them out it was right after it was installed because it was noisy. I could hear the refridgerator upstairs running while I was downstairs. Plus it seemed to run all the time and for being energy efficient model I just couldn't beleive it was working correctly. Repairman came out and said everything was fine. A few weeks later we came home and it wasn't cooling and a lot of our food was ruined. It was going to take a few days for them to get out and fix it. I had the idea of unplugging it to see if it would reset it and it did so then they wouldn't come out and look at it since it was now working. So a month later again it stopped cooling and we had more food that was ruined. They came out and had to order a part for it. A week later they were able to come back and put the new part in. 2 months later they had to come out again because it stopped cooling again and again replaced some part. So for the past few months its worked, but I don't trust my fridge at all.

We owned a LG French door for 2 years. The icemaker stopped working. LG was less than helpful. And forget finding a repair person to come out and fix. They won't. We found 1 person who would come out and look at it, and he gave us the great advice to go after Home Depot who knowingly keeps selling our model (and probably other models as well) even though they have had a lot of complaints about it. We also found out when we googled our model that there was a light issue. As in it stayed on when the door was closed, over heated, and would melt the interior of the fridge. Google the model number of the fridge you want and see what comes up. Anyway, even though we had owned it 2 years already, Home Depot took it back and applied the purchase price towards a new fridge.
I love the way LG appliances look, but when you google them and see all the other problems that people have with them, it makes you want to run the other way.

Not a fridge, but I purchased an stainless LG Microwave around 4 years ago. After about 3 years, it started smoking when I used it. It WAS past warranty however LG was not helpful at ALL...personally I don't find 3 years to be an acceptable amount of time for a new microwave. I'm done with LG...but I could have just had bad luck.

Our son swears by LG. I imagine you'll find opinions as varied as the opinions about which Disney resort is best! :rotfl: Consumer Reports would be my next stop.:thumbsup2 Good luck!:flower3:

Not a fridge, but I bought a LG DVD player & recorder that I didn't use more than three or four times in the year that I bought it and it broke. They were less than helpful too. Of course the darn thing was out of warrenty when it broke, so that's why but it still certainly should have worked better and lasted longer than that. Just for that reason along I will never buy another LG product.

We have friends that have an LG fridge and an LG microwave. Purchased about 3 years ago. Both have had problems already. The microwave broke just after the warranty expired and the fridge was still under warranty although it took several months to get it fixed.

I'm pretty sure they would tell you to avoid LG. I know when we looked for our new appliances we avoided LG becasue of what we watched them deal wtih.

We have an LG convection oven and an LG microwave. I do a lot of baking, and I absolutely love my oven. The only issue we've ever had (knock on wood) was a little piece of rubber flecking off of the microwave. I really think that was my fault, though, because I used a harsh cleaner.

My parents also have an LG French door refrigerator, and as far as I know, they've never had any problems with it.

Although we hardly ever buy them, we did purchase an extended warranty on the oven. It covers an additional five years after the manufacturer's warranty expires. It gave me peace of mind, but we've never had to use it.

Yikes! I wish I would have seen this thread last night. I just bought a pair of LG top loader HE washer and dryers. I'm having buyers remorse now.

I have an LG washer. It has been fine. Typical washer. Very quiet. Had an issue which they came and fixed and it turned out to be my fault (a nail from my pocket got stuck inside) Much more energy efficinet than the previous top loader. I would buy LG again. I WILL NEVER buy Frigidare again though.

We have an LG French door and so far so good. 2 years.:thumbsup2

I don't have LG kitchen app., but I have the front-loading washer and dryer. They have been great! Had them for 2 years and haven't had any issues. They are quiet and I thankfully haven't had to use the warranty for any problems. No complaints. Sounds like you found quite a deal:thumbsup2

I totally agree .....we also have the LG front load washer and dryer. I LOVE them !! We're going to be replacing our dishwasher / stove / microwave when one of them finally dies. We're replacing them all w/ LG. You won't be disappointed at all. :goodvibes

I have all new LG appliances in my kitchen mainly to match the fridge. I love my LG fridge. I also have the french doors with 2 freezer doors. That sounds like a great deal!

We don't have any LG kitchen appliances, but we bought an LG front loader washer and dryer about 4 years ago and they have been 100% trouble-free. We do on average, 1-2 loads of laundry a day and have washed some crazy things (we have horse blankets, halters, etc. to wash) and never any issues. We have a Frigidaire Professional side by side stainless fridge that we bought about 2 1/2 years ago and no problems with that either. I also have a Goldstar microwave that my father bought for me in 1992 when I was moving into my first apartment in college and that's still going strong too. Maybe we just have better than average luck with appliances. :-)

I sell appliances for the blue shirt store mentioned earlier. LOVE LG!!!! I have them at my house and would buy again in a heartbeat. BBY has their own techs to fix appliances (usually, depending on the region) so not being able to get them repaired if neccessary shouldn't be a problem. I would recommend the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection on any appliance though. It will cover almost anything that may go wrong with the appliance for 2 or 4 years. Plus that is added to the compressor so you get 7 or 9 years on that. Also with GSBTP you will get the food spoilage coverage. If you lose food it will be relaced up to $200.

Buy the fridge before they are gone. I know some areas are already sold through their stock.

LG dishwasher + N E W extended warranty...please read about my experience with N E W.

I had bought an LG stainless steel dishwasher 18 months ago..also purchased a 5 year extended warranty which happened to be from a company called N E W...at 15 months my machine stopped draining...called HHGregg(store of purchase)which put me in touch with N E W....over the course of 3 months the water pump was replaced 3 times...machine only finished 3 cycles during that time.

After the 3rd water pump...I had a very unpleasant phone call where a rep told me that they would never replace the dishwasher because it would break down within the 30 day work guarantee of the service company that was replacing the water pumps and they would just keep using that..instead of honoring their lemon policy. And his attitude just got worse from there and he yelled at me..to the point where I had to demand a supervisor and asked for them to pull the call for review before allowing the rep back on the phones(I used to work in call centers..I wouldn't demand it unless it was truly deserved..I was calm during the entire call). N E W sent a different company out to diagnose my issue and that tech said it was the on board computer. He said at that point he was going to call it in as a lemon and NEW would call to replace or refund in a week or so...after a week I followed up...

I was told that the warranty would not be honored due to installation error... was told that the opening in the cabinets was not wide enough and we did not install additional insulation to protect the unit from moisture....which was not what the last tech had told me. When I demanded that in writing to attach to my letters to the State Attorney General, HHGregg and LG...they offered to send another tech out to diagnose the issue again...instead of a 4 hour window was given a 12 hour window and no one ever showed up. Since I had all day, I pulled the installation instructions for the dishwasher(cause I save everything) and there was no mention of opening clearances or additional insulation.

I called again and demanded their decision in writing..at which point they told me I was approved for replacement and it was in the final stages of the special resolution department and they would have final approval in 3 days....

on day 5 I called again and was told that HHGregg had my information and to call them...so I called HHGregg..who did not have my information...but did get NEW on the phone to find out why they were sending me to them.....only at that point did I get case number..and 2 days later a merchandise credit for the purchase price and taxes of the LG dishwasher....NEW was also dropped as their extended warranty company during those 2 days and I like to take credit for that(I know it wasn't my issue alone but it makes me feel better to think I got them fired).

The salesperson at HHGregg that bent over backwards to cut us a deal a new KitchenAid dishwasher to bring the cost close to our 1k credit said that Home Depot and Best Buy are still using NEW for extended warranties....I haven't confirmed....but at this point I would ask what company is used and avoid NEW or just know that you will have to pull teeth to get them to deliver on their end of the contract.
