LG appliances, anyone?-Update- bought a Samsung instead

We have had our LG washing machine for about 5 years now. It works fine and we've had only minor issues with it.

However just after the warranty expired we started having some issues with it. I don't remember what they were, but I do remember we started trying to find someone to come out and repair it. We called many places only to be told every time that they did not repair LG washers. Finally in frustration I asked a guy why it was so hard to find a repairman. He said that LG appliances work great, but if they ever need service they are VERY expensive to repair. As in, they are the more expensive by far than any other appliance out there. He was nice enough to give us some suggestions on what the problem might be and recommended that in the future we stay away from LG just because of the service issues.

In our case we were lucky enough to solve the problem on our own without a repairman. Hopefully this one will last us many more years, but when it gives out we'll look to replace it rather than repair it.

I sell appliances for the blue shirt store mentioned earlier. LOVE LG!!!! I have them at my house and would buy again in a heartbeat. BBY has their own techs to fix appliances (usually, depending on the region) so not being able to get them repaired if neccessary shouldn't be a problem. I would recommend the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection on any appliance though. It will cover almost anything that may go wrong with the appliance for 2 or 4 years. Plus that is added to the compressor so you get 7 or 9 years on that. Also with GSBTP you will get the food spoilage coverage. If you lose food it will be relaced up to $200.

Buy the fridge before they are gone. I know some areas are already sold through their stock.

Wow, posted my comments before I read your post. We actually bought our LG washing machine from Best Bu. When looking for a repairman, they were the first ones we called. They were also the first to tell us they did not service LG applicances.

Yeah, can't comment about LG but I can say that Best Buy's extented warrenty is a scam. Geek Squad came out to repair our fltat screen, which should have been under the extended warrenty we purchased. The repair tech claimed WE caused the damage so the warrenty was now void (the tv shoped working while we were watching a show one night, so the only way we caused the damage was if using the tv in and of itself causes damage!). We were out the $1k we paid for the tv and the $ for the warrenty becaue the repair tech was either incompetant or a liar, and of course Best Buy refused to do anything for us based on what the repair tech said.

Best Buy isn't ever getting another dime from us for any kind of purchase and I repeat this story to anyone that will listen.

Our French door fridge broke on June 18th with the Temp inside reading 55 degrees. We had to call 5 different repair places before we found any one that would work on a LG. He had to order a part which took two weeks to come in.

The repairman put that part in and it still was not working properly so lo and behold another part was ordered and that one finally came in on July 13th. Repeated calls to LG were answered with "Sorry" but these parts are on backorder and we are sorry for your inconvenience. I also wasnt crazy about the company doing the repair work but was the only one authorized to fix LG in our area.

The repairman had nothing good to say about LG and I have to agree with them after I was without a fridge for almost a month! We do have the LG washer and dryer and have had no problems with those but I will not buy LG again because of the difficulty getting parts and people to work on them.

update on page 1-- ( not to mention a great bargain )

I would be less worried about buying the LG appliance than I would be about buying it from THAT store! We had a TERRIBLE experience with a large purchase we made at that store. They have no idea what service is, let alone CUSTOMER service! We will NEVER purchase anything there again!
