"Let me share some information with you. I lived in New York for 18 years and had NO IDEA that there was a rivalry between the Sox and the Yankees"

Does anyone else here find this REALLY hard to believe?? That's another thread though.

WDWOldTimer- I don't know what the heck a burberry scarf is... but thanks for the Lexus.... are you going to drive that up to Maine yourself? I'll make you dinner!:p

Sorry Mermaid, that's not yours! That one was for MissJ. But for a home cooked lobster dinner, I've got a couple things for you.

What time shall I come up?

What is with you people from Massachussets

It's Massachusetts, and maybe you should spend some time away from Boston before you lump an entire state together.

Born and raised in MA here. Don't like the Yankees. Never screamed at NY'er about them. Don't hate NY'ers - love Mets fans ;) I do get a bit tired of some people that love to brag about NY and act like you're uncultured hicks if you live elsewhere.

and believe me, Yankees fans are FAR from innocent

It seems to me, Evil Princess, that you've all ready resigned yourselves to hate Massachusetts. It's a shame really - there's more to it than Boston and not everyone that lives here thinks the same.

"What time shall I come up?"

Hey just give time to boil the water! I think I'd look really good in that car:earseek:

As for the scarf.... it looks just like the scarf my Mom bought me at KMart when I was a kid:tongue:

And WDWOldTimer... tell me the truth....... Money really DOES buy happiness doesn't it? I thought so!:wave2:

Car commercials to baseball rivalries all in one thread!

Im impressed with the versatility of the DIS boarders!!! ::yes::

I hope this is regular water, not sea monkey water.

BTW, why is Maine water so @#$(* cold?!? How do you expect us rich folks to enjoy our vacations up there when the water freezes our butts off?!?

Can you make mine red, not to be fussy or anything.

;)

Since I'm originally from CA, or Cauilfornia, I'll make sure to have a bottle of our best wine waiting for you upon delivery.

This is true, some yankees fans are psychotic. I have though witnessed a riot here in Boston where people were overturning cars JUST BECAUSE they had NY license plates. This isn't even when the Sox were playing the Yankees yet. I don't believe that Yankees fans are innocent at all, however, I have witnessed far more extreme behavior from the Red Sox side.

Like I said in a previous post, I am having a difficult time here. College freshman and all that fun stuff, in addition to getting bashed by all the New York haters. I have had my accent corrected in the middle of the dining hall by complete strangers for prounouncing something with a Long Island accent. It gets annoying after awhile, as I don't go out of my way to corrent someone when they leave out the letter R.

You ever have a day when it all catches up to you, and you break down? That was me today. Old timers comment really set me off. Especially considering it was that kind of attitude that I've been getting in real life. Perhaps it is because I am surrounded by college age students that my idea of people from Mass. is skewed.

Can I make your "what" red? Can we talk about this on a family board?

Why is it hard to believe? I don't follow baseball. Can't really stand it. The only sport that I am mildly interested in is Hockey. The rally cry for the Yankees is not "Red Sox S**k". How was I supposed to know about a rivalry if I don't follow baseball?

I honestly never knew there was this intense hatred towards the Yankees in Boston, and I guess some Yankees fans can't stand the Red Sox either. Alot of other girls from Long Island that moved to Boston weren't aware of the rivalry either.

There are some people in NY, believe it or not, who couldn't care less about baseball, let alone the Yankees.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time, but please understand how offensive it is to those of us from MA when you basically portray us as yankee hating savages.

MA is a diverse state with many people and many different thoughts, passions, and behaviors. Your posts come across as having this rabid disdain for anyone from Massachusetts. you can't judge a state based on the behaviors of some. Especially regarding behaviors in the capital city. That would be like me hating everyone from New York because I got spit at by someone in Central Park. My husband is from upstate NY and has never seen NYC. I'm from MA and I haven't been to Boston in over a year.

And I went to high school with someone with permanent brain damage from being assaulted for wearing a sox cap in NYC. Boston doesn't corner the market in extremism from their baseball fans

Perhaps it is because I am surrounded by college age students that my idea of people from Mass. is skewed

you also can't stereotype college aged students for the behaviors you've witness. My sister is in college and couldn't care less about baseball - neither do her friends.

Oh well there's where you have it all wrong. Everyone knows that 90% of the college students in Boston are a bunch of foreigners. I guess that Yankee hatred has spread internationally.

Oh yes, I've had those days and still do. I also remember Freshman year at NU. It wasn't always the easiest but the most memorable year. It was also the year in which I formed the longest lasting friendships. Those friends were mostly from NY (Bronx), CT (New Haven) and NJ. Their no-nonsense attitude and street smarts got me out of my shell. Part of the College experience is being with and learning from people that are different. It's not always nice or comfortable but with time you are sure to find true friends, no matter where they happen to come from.

I think that it is pretty valid statement that college students are on average more immature than grown adults. Not all of them, but people change as they get older. I don't think that my statement was offensive or stereotyping, I am a college student myself.

90% of my school is not from places other than Mass. On a whole, that statistic may be true, however, I'd say that 1 of 3 people I meet is from Mass.

You really have a Yankee hangup, don't you?

Yes, I'm aware, and I'm sorry. That comment was pretty much geared towards Oldtimer. Like I said before, it was one of those days and all of my agreession was just let loose. I felt personally attacked in his posts. He also made an assumption that all NY are Yankee obsessed people who are bitter over the loss during the World Series.

Hey Margie, when did you go to NU? I did my undergrad there. I'm just wondering if you need to thank me for helping to pay for all the new buildings that went up after I graduated.

Ahh....no, I think you might have a hangup about anyone from MA mentioning the Yankees to you though. Which school are YOU in....you might have to thank me too.

Northeastern, but I won't thank you, considering I can't stand it, lol.
Nah, I take that back. Nice school, just don't like some of the people, quite cliquey. The campus is nice, some of the classes are okay.

It is my experience in life that those who brag about their wealth are often not the wealthy ones.

No, we both paid for the new buildings. Where the Library is now was a parking lot when I was there. The Marino Center was also a parking lot. Come to think of it, most of our Campus was a parking lot back then. :p "Stars" was our cafeteria and believe me we got no gourmet grub then.

I also remember being told as a Freshman that we were living on the edge of the "most dangerous" section of Boston.

Just thought I'd chime in that my kids are loving the commercials with the bows on the Lexi since my DH told them that he talked to Santa and I'm getting a new car for Christmas. I'm getting a Town & Country van, though. The keys will be wrapped and the bow will be firmly affixed to the new van for Christmas morning.

The thing is... the kids don't know that I know what I'm getting.
