Letting college kids and younger use DVC points!

We let our college age son and wife use our time share one spring break. They are responsible adults, non drinkers, etc. We are avid Disney goers, and my son cut his teeth on a Disney stroller in the MK.

However, the trend the past two years seems to be very young groups of kids using the facilities at OKW and BW. This past spring break a group of very young girls brought a cooler of beer, cigs, and tanning oil to the pool. They partially blocked off the main steps into the pool. They were loud and obnoxious. My hubby, being a high school teacher, thought only one of the was old enough to be drinking. They tried to pick up a young man ..he brushed them off. Another couple called the main desk to report this. We were thankful they were not in our unit, as they stated they had lots of booze in the room to share.

Is this a new trend? In our little midwest county - what used to be a college thing-going on spring break to Fla.-has been pushed down to allowing high schoolers to go unchaperoned to Fla. Am I the only one seeing this?

We saw this once several years ago where a group of young boys were at the main pool of OKW and were loud and playing in the pool a little rough for the children at the pool. After one of the CM's talked to them they settled down and soon left. Spring break time is very busy at WDW, but most of the college age kids have been with an adult and have not caused any trouble that we saw. I think it has more to do with who is there with them than their age. I let my daughter use OKW once with her girlfriend and told them to behave, they were 21 at the time. No trouble reported, and we did check up on them.
I hope this did not spoil your vacation.

Last year, my oldest DD was a high school senior. A lot of people she knew were going on trips to Florida, Mexico, you name it, for Spring break. Some of them were over 18, but many were minors. I'm sure many of them ate, drank and did things their parents would not have approved of. My DD had no desire to go.
On the other hand, she is now 19 and looks about 15. She gets a little miffed when the dentist office offers her a pass after her appointment so she can get back into school.

I hope they keep a lid on this type of thing. I know people jump on those of us who would like to see the occupancy rules enforced but this is the type of situation that concerns me. I don't care too much if you've got an extra six year old in the unit. I do care if there are 8 college kids in a one-bedroom or a whole fraternity in a Grand Villa. Many FL condos have had to put in strict rules because of problems with unsupervised Spring Break parties held by the children of owners. I certainly think owners should be able to let family members of any responsible age use the units. I'd just like to also know that DVC is keeping an eye out for any problems.

This incident didn't spoil my trip........it would take alot to spoil my trips.....not even the Brazilian tour groups in July can do that!!! I did feel for the families with young children on their first visit, and the newbies.....

Going in July has it's advantages (late park hours) and disadvantages, and the Brazilian tour groups are truly a disadvantage. Next time we go then, I'll remember your quote Lil, and it will put a smile on my face!

Can anyone explain the reference to the Brazilian tour groups for me? I'm fascinated as to what that can mean. Thanks.

It doesn't just happen in July!

I think the reference is to large South American tour groups that show up at WDW enmass and charge on to all the attractions as one large group. I am sure they do this because of the language barrier, but it can be annoying if you happen to be there at the same time as the group.

I used to think they were all just rude people, but now I believe it is just a cultural difference. I am sure they spend a lot of money coming to WDW, and feel they need to be accommodated.

I thought it was only September that was a problem!

We have been going to WDW in July for years. One of the major problems is you have one person holding a flag in front of you for 30 min., and as you go to enter the ride, 30 kids with matching shirts show up. Disney faced alot of complains -especially as the new rides opened up with hour waits.

Now, I am married to a Cuban....so on the cultural thing.....no it is not cultural. Anytime you have a large group of rich teenagers with little supervision you are asking for trouble. Oh yes, my husband speaks and understands Portuguese.......one made the mistake of calling me a rather unpleasant name when I accidentally stepped in front of her while taking a picture.

But again, anytime you have a large group of unsupervised teens, away from home, with little supervision, you usually see the worst of their behavior.
Although, I will say I have met some really nice kids.....just doing what they do naturally...being an obnoxious teenager.

On a funny note, one year we went to key west and to Disney....what a drive. We flew out of Miami.....there were millions of them lined up in color coded shirts......and pallets of electronical equipment waiting to be loaded. Hated to see their carry onluggage.
