Letter needed from GP to bring medication (tablets) into USA

Hi

Do any of you know where I can find exactly the wording needed for a letter from my GP to allow me to bring prescribed medication (blood pressure and aspirin tablets) into the USA. Apparently you now need this letter together with your prescription. Before it was only for medication where a needle was being used however they are tightening up all this and this other letter is also needed.

I have taken medication into the US on many occasions and not needed a doctors note as it was not liquid. Have not been for a year now so it could have changed.

Hi ya,
On our last trip to MCO back in Feb my husband had had a recent hospital stay and had to take 5 different types of medication with him.
We needed a letter from his GP anyway so that the airline would let us fly and on that letter the GP also listed the medications he would be taking with him.
I made sure the I had the letter ready at both Gatwick security and MCO immigration just in case we were asked about all the meds but neither airport wanted to know anything about them.
None the less I felt much happier (with that high ammount of meds) travelling with the letter.
Our GP did not charge us but since it's not actually a NHS service to write letters be aware they may charge a small fee.
As an aside I regularly travel with prescribed tablets (2 kinds plus paracetemol) for my IBS and I have never once been asked about them even when they have gone through my bags for further screening.

Just found official wording from US Embassy website, it reads Have either a prescription or written statement

A traveler requiring medicines containing habit-forming drugs or narcotics (e.g. cough medicine, diuretics, heart drugs, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, depressants, stimulants, etc.) should:

Have all drugs, medicines, and similar products properly identified;
Carry only the quantity that might normally be used by an individual having a health problem requiring such drugs or medicine:
Have either a prescription or written statement from your personal physician that the medicine is being used under a doctor's direction and is necessary for your physical well-being while traveling.

My son has a severe eating problem.

He has to take four different medications, as well as 200ml of special milk fed into him via a stomach tube every four hours. We then have to syringe all his meds into him.

Can you imagine the letters we had to get together for our last trip?

We had his consultant type out a letter for us deatling his condtion as well as all his meds needed on the flight. Obviously we had to carry more than 100ml of milk with our hand luggage. Every time we had a letter readied, we had to have it done again as the meds were constantly being changed..

The daft thing? No one ever bothered to check anything either way, didn't even read the letter...

We are flying again in September and are bracing ourself for getting everything together again.

May be worth trying to find the US trade name for the drugs or at least the generic pharmaceutical name because trade names are sometimes different in UK.

My DS has a severe nut allergy and have to carry his adrenalin and Piriton with us all the time.

We always carry a letter from his Specialist with us but on our last visit to Florida this past October my DH had to drink a mouthful of the Piriton before we were able to past through Passport Control.
