Letter from Member Accounting 2021 tax information not correct on 1098 form.

Received this from DVC this evening. Not happy, I just filed my taxes with my accountant and know I have to let them know.

Dear Valued DVC Member, You will be receiving a corrected 1098 tax form for 2021 in the mail. The 1098 tax form has been corrected for the Outstanding Principal Balance in Box 2 which was not populated correctly in the original mailing. Please allow up to 2 weeks to receive the updated forms as the mailings started today. Please note the Mortgage Interest amount in Box 1 is accurate in the original 1098 Tax form for 2021 that you received by mail. The interest amount shown on our Member website is also accurate and will not change. We value your Membership and appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve you. Does this affect your tax return? From the sound of it, only the Outstanding Principal Balance (Box 2) is incorrect, the Mortgage Interest is correct (Box 1).

AFAIK, this wouldn't make any difference to either federal or state income taxes. If it were me, I'd just put the amended form in my file cabinet and forget about it. IANAA.

CarolMN is correct, a change to box 2 should not affect anyone's tax returns
