I just received a letter from the HRH
telling me they charge your card $300
per night for incidentals and room charges!! Does this sound like an outrageous amount to anyone else?

I believe someone else posted that you can call them and ask them to not charge this fee, and they won't.

Hi Dis Veteran, My letter states you either
have it charged to your Credit Card or a
Cash Deposit is required for the same amount. I've stayed at many 5 star hotels
throughout my travels and have never heard of such a thing.

I was appalled that they put a $600 hold on my account when I was there in April. However, I do know people do not have to put any credit card or cash down and are still able to have their room cards and FOTL. They could not charge anything on thier cards, but this was no big deal because everything in the parks takes credit cards and cash. This way they were not waiting a whole week for them to release the hold like I was. When I go again I will not use my room key as a charge card because I had several problems and inaccurate charges to my room that took a while to sort out and correct.

Any hotel you stay at (and use a credit card at check-in) puts some sort of hold on your credit card. Typically, this amount varies from between $100 per night to up to $500 per night - depending on your room rate and whether incidentals can be charged to your room. Sorry folks, but this is a general rule practiced throughout the US hotel industry - and it's their way of insuring they get their money when you check out. You are probably just surprised at this because the HRH has the honesty to let you know this up front. The $300 per night sounds reasonable, it's right up there with the hold that the Disney hotels put on their guests' credit cards.

Of course, you CAN ALWAYS stop the hotel you are staying at from doing this check-in. Don't forget that, at a minimum, a hotel needs to insure it has guaranteed payment of room and tax for the number of nights of your reservation. Also, you will not be able to charge anything to your room - this is typically printed directly on your room key.

But don't worry, if you choose this option you will still have Express access to the attractions.

Disney does this too! You are probably not aware of it. I was not aware of it until the Poly double charged me for our theme park tkts while we still there. So, I contacted my bank just to make sure the credit showed up (it was supposed to be done within 24 hrs) and that is when my bank told me they did not see any credit from WDW as of yet; however, they did see a "hold" on my card for $1500. That is C&U for resorts, I guess.

debden - they don't "charge" your card - they put a hold on it. And as stated before - it is standard at any resort I've ever stayed at.
