Yesterday we rec'd a letter from MS at DVC announcing some changes and the fact that the system will be done for upgrades.

I am confused on something though. In the same paragraph where it says that cash reservations require a one night deposit, it also in the next sentence says that the Disney Dining Plan must be paid for at the time of the reservation, but you can add it to your reservation within 48 hours of checking in. Does that mean that paying for the plan is ONLY if you do a cash reservation or that everyone now has to pay for the Dining Plan at the time you make the reservation?

I read it twice and so did my husband and we both question it. Personally if that is the case, I won't add it until 48 hours before we check in because I usually don't have the money until we get there and plan my trips around it.

Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.

Thanks - Diane

There are a number of other threads on this, but any DVC reservation (cash or points) adding the dining plan must be paid when you reserve the DDP, starting 10/14.

Right, but I think the question is do you pay for it when you reserve the room or when you reserve the dining plan. My impression has been you pay when you reserve the dining plan. So, I would say to the OP that you could add the dining plan at the 48 hour mark (or so--I'd try at 3 days because I'm afraid of weird things happening) and you'll pay for it then. It will not effect your room reservation--cash or points. At least that's the deal as of today (pre-10/14).

But I could be misunderstanding that since this seems like a new policy.

Here's what I was told:

DVC cash reservations require a one night deposit.

Adding the DDP to a reservation triggers the payment. If added at 11 months, you pay at 11 months.

Currently the DDP must be added at least 48 hours before your arrival.

If the software cut over is delayed, the rule changes will be delayed.

Basically, DVC will now have an accounts receivable program. It used to be they had no way to accept payments in advance so they just had you pay at check-in. Now that they have a system, they want the money in advance just like Disney hotels. So you have to pay for the dining plan when you reserve it and if you book a cash room you have to pay 1 nights deposit, just like Disney hotels room only.

Yes, you can add and pay for ddp up to 48 hrs. before your reservation. However, if you want to make adr's in advance, you will have to have added the ddp before you can.

Only if you care about not pre-paying for a few reservations - like CRT or a dinner show. If you don't have those things, or if you don't care about pre-paying and getting your money back @ the restaurant, there is no need to add the DDP before making your dining reservations.

Why :confused3 sorry but that is not correct. You can make your ADRs and then add the dining plan, one has nothing to do with the other.

As Vicki said it would only affect meals you have to pay for when you book and there are not many of them.

What are the hours for member services?

9am to 5:30pm eastern time, 7 days a week. Closed for select major US holidays. They are also scheduled to be closed beginning 10/12 at 3pm eastern and reopen at normal hours on 10/14 for the system implementation.

What if you have a reservation for January with DDP added? Will you have to pay for it now? Also, I planned to pay for mine there with disney cards, (several) how would that work?

sorry!

If you added it already (pre 10/14), you can pay @ check-in. I've heard of quite a few people paying with gift cards at check-in.

yup if you add before the 14th of October you pay at check in...I have a ressie for February and I called yesterday to add the DDP and they told me to pay at check in...I just called to add it then becuase I didn't want to have to pay for it in advance...

Thank you. It is one of those things I can save easier for if I can just pick up a card at each grocery trip. If I have cash it gets spent. I'm always handing it to someone.

WHOA! Are you saying you now have to be on the DDP in order to make ADRs in advance? That's HUGE change if that's the case. That doesn't sound right, because that means no one staying off site could have any chance of dining reservations.

No that is not correct and I think that I (and others) corrected that earlier in the thread. Unless that was a different thread.

Good reminder! I'm heading over to the members page to make sure I have a prinout of all my current reservations, points statuses, etc. :thumbsup2 Not that the upgrade would potentially hose up any of those things. :lmao:
