Okay, Okay...What I'm trying to do is to find out what the ideal accomodations would be for a family trip of 10 people....7 adults, and three kids (ages 14, 12, and 10) for this October. Last family trip we had just enough (8 people) and did two rooms at the All Stars. We basically just assumed that we would get three rooms at the AS for this trip, but I didn't want to give in without checking our options. Has anyone stayed five to a room in either PO or the Poly?? What kind of room are we talking about? Giving the price difference, if we were to go somewhere other than AS, we would upgrade to a moderate, but let me know what you think! Just so you know, I'll have an AP so we could use that for a discount.

Hi Ivy!

The rooms at Port Orleans Riverside that accommodate five people were not meant for parties with children over the age of 9. The trundle bed used to accommodate the fifth person in that room is not a regular size bed and Disney is particular about offering those rooms to families with smaller children. The rooms at the Polynesian offer two queen beds and a day bed and would be more appropriate for the age of the kids going with you.

Three rooms at the AS Resorts will still be less expensive than two rooms at the Polynesian (or any other deluxe resort). Another option could be Wilderness Cabins at Fort Wilderness. You will find two cabins less expensive than two rooms at the Polynesian and a little more roomy.

I would also vote for the Fort Wilderness Cabins. They each sleep 6 so you'd have plenty of beds. You'd also have a full kitchen so you could keep snacks/juices/sodas on hand and even have breakfast in the room if you wanted to.

Before we joined DVC we always stayed in the Fort Wilderness cabins and absolutely loved them!

I am not sure I understand. If you are upgrading to a moderate than the Poly is out of the running. I have never stayed at POR with 5 people, but it is the only moderate you are allowed to do this, the others only sleep 4. They give you a trundle bed. I have stayed in the Poly with 5 and the rooms there are lot bigger and would be more comfortable. So if you are comparing the 2 for which would be more comfortable and convenient than the Poly wins. But POR is a better price.

Have you considered any of the "home away from homes"??
FW cabins, Old Key West, Villas at BW or BC/YC??
The BC and BW studios each accomadate 5.
The other moderate that can accomadate 5, I think, is Coronado Springs. I think they have suites available. But not sure.
You also have to add into the price that they charge an additional fee for more than 2 adults in a room.
It wouldn't hurt to call and ask them to tell you what is available for the time you are going, and what the additional charges would be.

The Fort Wilderness Cabins still might be the best option, room and price wise

I guess I'd just like to know how many families are we talking about here. The least expensive would probably be the AS. How are you looking to split up the kids and adults? Is one family footing the bill or will it be split? This may make a difference in what resort is chosen.

Here's the family breakdown: Me and my husband, my younger sis, my nephews (ages 14, 10) and niece (age 12) and their mom/my older sis (who will probably be able to make it down for a long weekend), my mom and dad who are paying for accomodations and maybe a family friend. Just to keep your information accurate: All DVC studios have a stated occupancy of 4 adults plus one child under three. The BW does have studio plus which has a child size daybed in it. I have heard that they no longer guarantee you will get the plus if you request it. OKW has two beds in the studios, the others have a bed and sleeper sofa. One plus to multiple rooms at AS is the number of bathrooms will be more than if you try for a room with larger occupancy.

If the bed configuration doesn't work out right at the AS (someone not being comfortable sharing a bed/room), I guess I'd opt for the Wilderness cabins. At least you'd save money on meals.

I would stay in cabin at fw,if price is a factor,you will have to pay xtra for 7th person,but they will bring roll bed for you,although one person could sleep on couch,i guess that would be up to you,they have bunk beds,queen bed,and pull down murphy bed ,they accomodate 6 people very comfortably.
