Let's talk turkey......

Do you think it's better to use one of the thermometers that stays in the Turkey the entire roasting time, or one of those instant read ones that don't stay in the turkey (which I discovered don't stay in the turkey 3 Thanksgivings ago when the plastic melted:rolleyes: ) ??

When I use a meat thermometer, I do NOT leave it in the meat the whole time it's cooking. I'll stick it in when I think it's ready - or to decide how much longer I need to cook it - and then take it out, wash it & re-insert as needed.

When I first got married I always used to leave it in the whole time - but after about a year, there was so much condensation in it I wasn't able to read it any more. (I only ever washed the stem - didn't put it in the dishwater.) So now I just use it & remove.

BethR...now you've got me curious on who taught my Mom to make gravy! I'm going to ask her tomorrow.

And ChiTownZee...I leave the thermometer in the whole time.
