Let's talk sun protection while on the cruise!

I'm the OP; I placed a big order with Coolibar last week and it'll be delivered today, so I'll try to remember to update on quality, fit, etc. I got two long-sleeve sunwraps for me, a UPF-50 skirt, and elbow-to-knee bathing suits for two of my kids (one of them might refuse to wear it; we'll see). I'm still looking for a sunhat that I like - I've got plenty of time (cruise is in August), so hopefully I'll find one!

Do not use the wal-mart brand equate I got severely burned last year. We are using banana boat this time.

I love equate. Spent a week in the sun at baseball games at Spring Training in Phoenix in March. Applied it first thing in the morning, 5 days in the sun, no burns. But I did buy the SPF 50 version, even though there is questionable benefit in a high SPF number, but it cost the same.

I have extremely fair skin, so I use about a bottle of spray sunscreen per day just on myself if I'm going snorkeling or spending a day on the beach. But on my first snorkeling excursion I forgot a hat (silly me!). In the afternoon I took a nap (ahhhhh! The beds on the Dream and Fantasy are the best for naps!) and noticed that my scalp hurt. That's when I realized I had a sunburn on my scalp. Nowhere else. Just my scalp. Ouch! Needless to say, I have never forgotten a hat again ;). I also use a swim shirt. Just used my DCL one today, as a matter of fact.
I will add that if you are strategic, you can find a chair in the shade on the pool deck. Although one time when we were anchored at a tender port on a windy day, the ship kept moving and my shade kept moving along with it. I just switched sides of the pool deck as the ship moved. People probably thought I was crazy ;). Oh, and there are plenty of umbrellas for shade on Castaway Cay, too.

I do the same thing on the pool deck; change sides when the shade moves to stay in the shade!

I'm looking for a new swim shirt for my upcoming cruises - do they sell them for adults onboard? Are they long or short sleeve? I prefer long, and am having a hard time finding something reasonable. I'll pay unreasonable for a DCL souvenir, though!

I use any brand sun screen with the minimum recommended UVA and UVB protection. If I remember correctly; isn't the minimum number 30? And it needs to be both UVA and UVB.

When we go on vacation in the winter I have the complexion of a ghost. When I get back from our warm weather vacation, I have the complexion of a ghost :rotfl2::rotfl::cool1::thumbsup2
