Let's talk menopause!

Been experiencing all of that and more. I skipped a month a couple of years ago and have been regular ever since till last month and this month. Still have one but extremely light and long. I mostly get my flashes at night and have trouble falling asleep. Memory? What's that.:scared:

I just wish I could get it over with already!

And who else here thinks that if men had to go through menopause they would have come up with a cure for it. ;)

It does sound like peri-menopause. When this wave of heat hits you suddenly...your hubby isn't in the room is he?:lmao:

Yes he is. I start sweating and fanning my self. He just looks at me like I am crazy because he is shivering from the AC. :lmao:

My freind told me about black cohosh. I think I may have to give it a try.

Awwww shucks...you had me going!! :rotfl2:

I remember when my doctor first told me I was "going through the change.."

I said, "Okay.. I would like to change into a millionaire, thank you.."

Didn't work..

:lmao: :lmao:

I was going to say something...but I forgot what!!:lmao:

I was watching The View a few weeks ago; Barbara Walters had her doctor on. He is against using Soy, it is a phyto-estrogen. (sp?) He said estrogen contributes to breast cancer; it doesn't matter what form you take it in. Barbara said she never used anything - went natural on his advice. Just a PSA :)

Thanks for sharing this!!

Oh my gosh you guys!

I have been searching for any information about menopause.
I am 47 and have had "symptoms" for about 10 years. First few years it was just night sweats, and some mood swings, but for the last 6 months it has really gotten bad!

I have trouble sleeping because of the hot flashes.

I have aches and pains, chin hairs galore!
Headaches from lack of sleep at night.
Panic attacks (my mom says - "You are just nervous all the time!")
I am taking Estroven, but now I am not so sure I want to take that anymore. (not really helping anyway) maybe vitamin E could help. I need help with the sleeping. I am actually afraid to fall asleep at night because I know I will be waking up at least 7 or 8 times.
DH cannot understand any of this. Maybe I need to see my DR. Although, she told me many years ago, that I will need to get through it the best I can.

I am just so miserable, I could cry! ( Oh! there is another mood swing!)
Thanks for listening!

Kimmie, I'm so sorry you feel so terrible.

Please go to your doctor and demand hormonal testing and then treatment if necessary. If your doctor doesn't take you seriously, then FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!

After I was placed on estrogen/progesterone, I became my old self again. Years of trying to fight menopausal symptoms by myself had worn me down.

Since starting HRT, I feel so much better - physically and emotionally. My DH is glad I started it too! :rolleyes1

I'm 47.

I was kidding with DH about having hot flashes and told him I was thrilled that I wasn't having night sweats. He said, "How could you have night sweats? You've got the temperature at 60 degrees at night."

I slapped him. Yet another thing I can blame on MENopause

Thanks for the support!

I just called to make an appointment! Can't wait to hopefully get some relief!

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.

Kimmie

I'm 40 and have had the night sweats for about a year or so. I fall right to sleep, but sometimes in as little as an hour, I start the "sweat to death/throw off the blankets/freeze to death/cover back up" dance. This goes on almost every night!

Besides the huge mood swings, non-existent libido, and forgetfulness (what?), I have been getting the biggest, most painful pimples in and around my ears !!! That makes it quite painful to sleep on the affected side, and sleep is VERY important. Thankfully, so far it's always been one side at a time.

Anyone else have this symptom or am I the only lucky soul on the one?!

::yes:: Most of the "helps" for menopausal women have plant estrogens. For example, black cohosh and soy.

I don't mean to be a downer, but HRT scares me to death. Many doctors do fear that it contributes to breast cancer. You may be fixing one problem and causing another. I'm not saying don't do it...but think it through first. Breast cancer is NOT fun.

Mine are around my nose. :confused3 I can check before I leave the house and when I get across town I have two of them. What's with that? You'd think I was 13.

Well..I go to my Dr tomorrow. They are supposed to run blood tests and then we will take it from there. I don't know what I will do if HRT is recommended. Most of the people I know are taking anti depressants instead. All I know is that something has to happen because school starts in three weeks and I will end up losing my job if I don't get help.

I don't know if you read my other thread a few days ago, but I would really like to get my brain back. :upsidedow I deposited DH's paycheck into DS's back account then spent hours trying to find out why our account did not match up. Who knows what else I have done.

I read that the other day. Last year I was so scared that I was getting Alzheimers but I guess this is what it is.

For me its not the forgetfulness, but rather I am in a fog sometimes. I think it's the lack of sleep.

I don't know if HRT is the right thing, but I an tired of just trying to get through it. Its not working!

I guess we are all looking for one thing that will work, our at least, ease the symptoms.

Anyone have any for sure things?

Yes, I use Evening Primrose Oil capsules (1,000 mg /day).
It works for me, if I run out and stop taking it I can really see a difference. I have read that Black Cohosh does nothing.

I had brain fog terribly. It was if I was there, but not, at times. :confused3

I did not want to go on HRT. At all. I thought I could just ride it out and boy was I wrong!

I discussed the risks with my doctor and we both agreed my quality of life was more important than any slight risks involved. So, he put me on the lowest dosage of estrogen.

I did my research and determined that an estrogen patch carried less of a risk of blood clots than an oral estrogen. Also, I wanted to do the micronized progesterone since it's basically bio-identical. So, I'm on the Vivelle dot patch and prometrium orally. I declined the Prempro my doctor wanted me to take originally because of ethical reasons (it's made with pregnant mare's urine).

I know most of you aren't technically in early menopause, but many of you may still benefit from the information at http://www.earlymenopause.com

There's a great section listing the pros and cons of each HRT.
