Let's talk menopause!

Am I the only one whose chol has gone up with this stage of life? :confused3

So far mine hasn't gone up. Maybe I'm just not at the point yet.
I'll let ya know next Dr. visit.

I am somewhere in the haze. I did learn to take a Tylenol PM every night about 30 minutes before bed and it really works. I do not wake up in the night and am able to go to sleep. I do not function without sleep. I was okay with the night sweats but now the hot flashes and the panic attacks are making me a danger to society. I did take the Estroven genaric brand and it really seemed to help but I am going into the DR. and get something more powerful. If I don't go crazy, I am sure my family will if I do not do something soon. My husband is in a conflict with his partners and will probably be taking over sole ownership of his business in the next two months and I am his sounding block. Need to be sane for that! Important decsions to make and I should be able to think an entire thought to help. That scatterbrain stuff is really the biggest issue. I have always been so organized and together and I feel like I wake up to a tornado in my brain everyday. It takes such effort to just get out of the house with all my clothes on. Nice to know I am not the only crazy out there. Thanks for the support!

Is it safe to take it every day? 'Cause I'd love to try it.
----------------------------

I would be concerned about the "tylenol" aspect of it.. Tylenol taken long-term on a daily basis can really reek havoc with your liver.. Does "Simply Sleep" have tylenol in it? If not, I would try that instead..;)

Just a side note on the sleep issues.. Since January I have been struggling with terrible insomnia (not related to menopause though).. I was taking benadryl or other over-the-counter sleep meds and whether they worked or not, when I would wake up from whatever sleep I did get, I would wake up with my insides shaking like crazy (like I had been scared to death) and my heart racing so bad I thought it was going to pop right out of my chest.. My doctor told me it was one of the ingredients in the benadryl and OTC sleep aids.. Not saying this will happen to everyone (years ago I could take them with no problem) - just mentioning that if it happens to you, you should stop taking them..:goodvibes

I turned 50 last December. I think my menopause started about 3-4 years ago. periods got heavy and sometimes skipped a month; followed by two the following month. Last year only got them in April and December. Haven't had one so far this year.:thumbsup2

Hot flashes - only a few in the day time - but the night sweats wake me up almost every night. The air conditioner can be blowing on me - I wake up sweating - especially on my chest. Then two minutes later I am freezing.

My cholesterol suddenly went up about 50 points. I feel like I am developing arthritis. My fibromyalgia is getting worse.

And let's not forget poor DH!!! :sad2: For the past couple of months I fight with him almost EVERY night - I can't believe what a witch I turn into at night :confused3

Trouble concentrating - I was just sitting down trying to get thru my Harry Potter book - jumped up to wash dishes, now look where I am!!!

Ahh the joys of being a woman for the past 38 years

Forgot to mention the anxiety attacks.

Especially when you kill the menopause thread. :sad2:

It's alive! Its' alive! :rotfl:

Here's another personal question for all of you -- when your husband wants to "spoon" at night - does it drive you insane? I fee HORRIBLE and hate telling him this, but it makes me absolutely hotter than anything else. I feel so guilty!!!

I wish I could just lock mine in a closet for the next few years!! :scared:

I wonder why menopause causes anxiety attacks? I have finally learned the very begining symptoms and how to better deal with them.

I guess it's all these fluctuating hormones :guilty:

My DH uncle was told that it was safe to give to his elderly mother as a sleep aid nightly. It's mainly just Tylenol and Benadryl. Or you could look at the ingredients and just take that amount of the Benadryl part.

I've developed another interesting symptom. I tighten up my shoulders and neck each night. Maybe because I have two fans blowing on me due to the night sweats. Anyway, I wake up with a terrible stiff neck and tight shoulders each morning, which sometimes turns into a headache. You try to make one thing better and break something else.

I'm with Amy. Give those of us who can't take hormone therapy or plant estrogens some help. Has anyone found anything else that gave them some relief?

I have used Replense for v. dryness and it helps some. It's not a cure and it's expensive, but it does make it a little better.

Sometimes I think our husbands need a support group more than we do. I know my husband thinks sometimes that I find him unappealing. It's not that. It's just that sex is the last thing on my mind. And personally, I can't imagine why he wants to sleep with me? If I was living with a hormonal monster, I'd just want to leave him alone. :rotfl:

I completely agree with you on this. I think I have turned into my cat!:rotfl2: One minute I'm loving and purring and the next I have my claws out!:sad2: :lmao:

Has anyone tried Evening Primrose Oil? I just ordered it and started taking it yesterday - of course it's too soon to tell. Just wondering if anyone has tried it.

I thought I knew all the symptoms of menopause before I started this lovely journey into Old Ladyhood but nowhere do I remember hearing about the anxiety attacks and how bad they really can be. I can't tell you how many times I think I'm dying of a heart attack.

My mom would tell me things to expect when the "change" happened but she was on that darling yellow pill for a few years so she must not have experienced a lot of anxiety attacks.:rolleyes1

What is this supposed to do for you?

Mad Cow Disease :lmao: So true........

I'm in there with all of you. I'm 48 and this journey has lasted about 9-10years from the beginning to now. I did end up on HRT for about 4 years which helped immensely with the mood swings. I couldn't stand myself for a couple of years.

I've had weight gain ( which I attribute mostly to the HRT), mood swings, hot flashes, lack of libedo, chin hairs :rotfl: , you name it I've had it... oh yeah what was that other thing..... I can't remember squat anymore. My brain feels about fried!

To the OP, I can't stand the "spooning" anymore either. It has not made my DH very happy but I don't like all this crap either...
