For some, the dressing up in a costume (or running outfit inspired by a character) can be the most fun of a race. So, who has everyone dressed up as? And for what races?

I normally don't dress up, but I am entertaining the thought for my upcoming few races (DL10k, Wine and Dine, Tink, Princess)... I'm just very indecisive and hate to dress like anything everybody else is! I'm considering doing a Hipster Princess outfit for Princess, and perhaps White Rabbit for the DL10k...

I just can't see myself not getting irritated by wearing wings for the Tink. Also, I'm not a fan of props- the thought of holding something for 13.1 does not excite me, but I do give major kudos to those that do!

I have done a few different things, some Disney-related and some not.
For the Shamrock Marathon I just wore fun knee-high socks and head band:shamrock:
For a local Halloween 10 miler I like to dress up as a Witch by dressing in black running gear and a witches hat pinned. I have worn black and purple striped knee socks for that one too. :stir:
For a local Memorial Day race I dressed up in red white and blue with a big sparkling bow in my hair. That was fun.
For Disney races:
2011 Marathon - Minnie Mouse
2012 Wine and Dine 1/2 - Silvermist
2013 Marathon - Donald Duck
2013 Princess 1/2 - Belle

Upcoming Disney costume possibilities:
DL 10K - Belle or Minnie Mouse again
DL 1/2 - Ariel with legs (I have an outfit that is the color of her turquoise gown so I am thinking of going with that and dying my hair red and wearing shell accessories - might be too subtle though)

My costumes are regular running gear with accessories, I don't wear true costumes. For example, my Minnie Mouse costume is a running skirt that is red with white polka dots and a black top with Minnie ears and white gloves. Belle is a white running skirt with a yellow team sparkle skirt over it, a yellow top, yellow fabric draped over my shoulders for the off-the-shoulder portion of dress (although I might make mini-sleeves to pin to my top this time, the last time I was hot!) and a rose pinned to my visor.

Let's see, I enjoy doing costumes. I usually go more than just running gear, I have my run gear on but over that is my costume. I do most races that encourage costumes in costume, other races I do not run in costume

Past Races:
2011 Princess Half - Princess Peach
2011 Wine and Dine Half - Strawberry Shortcake
2011 Daytona Beach Half - Racey Lacy (won costume contest)
2012 Mickey Marathon - Snow White
2012 ToT 10 Miler - Queen Narissa (Enchanted)
2012 Halloween Halfathon - Strawberry Shortcake (won costume contest)
2013 Princess Half - Rapunzel

Planning: (if unsure, planning to wear one, not sure which of my hundreds to choose)
2013 ToT 10 Miler - unsure (French Maid Princess I designed maybe)
2013 Halloween Half (not sure which I'm doing yet) - unsure
2014 Mickey Marathon - maybe costume, unknown
2014 Princess 10k - unsure
2014 Princess Half - Ariel Mermaid form
2014 Wine and Dine Half - German Beer Girl

Last year for the 5k I dressed as a Tinkerbell/PeterPan combo.
The half was Minnie Mouse.
The full I wore no costume.
For a half I did recently I wore a patriotic tutu.

What would be different?

Cinderella.....Before her fairy Godmother arrives.
A step sister.
The queen of hearts.
Minnie bridal (bridal ears and white tutu) with a sign in back that reads:
Runaway Bride

They were things running through my head.

I've never dressed up before for a race, so my friend and I are going all out!

Enchanted 10K: I'm going as Ariel (most likely mermaid form) and my friend is going as Belle.

Princess Half: Our team name is Team Avengers so I'm going as Captain America and she's going as Iron Man. Tutus included :)

Oh, I like the idea of using the team name to break out of the princess costume expectation!

I wore this for the TOT,worse choice ever! Polyester and oh so hot!!!! Although the bell hops loved it and I did get special treatment . A ride in the service elevator and a no waiting in line ride :) ya I guess that made it all worth it :)

I will be doing my first 1/2 in feb and I want to add some bling to my running gear... will probably just wear a pink tutu and my pink crown bondi band

I did Batgirl in the PHM in 2012. I know, she's DC and so not Disney, but she's still a powerful girl! It was simple too, I just wore a Batman shirt, a gold sparkle skirt, and black running capris. I bought the arm accessories but figured it'd be too hot.

I want to do Princess Atta for the PHM next year, and maybe a chipmunk (because they are my best friends.. the only characters I'd love to be real "friends" with!!) for the 10k or 5k.

I would love to see that!!

Love costumes! I've only done 4 official races so far and 2 of which I did not dress in costume, but regret that decision :) The other two, I had grand ideas but scaled back and *agian* regretted that decision.

I'm going ALL out for W&D and GSC!

* Local Turkey Day 5k - no costume, but wanted to go as a turkey :) Next year...
* Tap N Run 4k - Incredibles (can't post picture as this is only my 2nd post, but blog link below has a photo in today's post)
* Local 5k - I wish I would have at least gone with an easy costume with a sparkle skirt
* PHM - easy Snow White costume - blue tech tee with red teardrops sewn on sleeves, red bow headband, yellow tutu (again link in blog)

Costumes in progress:
W&D - Russell (my DH) and Kevin (me) from Up!
W&D Kids Race - Cinderella (daughter) and Prince Charming (son)
GSC 10k - Evil Queen
GSC 1/2 - Buzz Lightyear

I did Tigger. I used a normal orange tech tee and sewed Tigger stripes and an yellow belly on it. I made an orange, black and yellow tutu and had a tail (made from those giant pipe cleaners). I had orange and black tiger striped socks. I sewed ears and tiger striped fabric into my visor and painted my glasses orange. It was a huge spirit lifter to have people yell "go Tigger!"

Not doing Disney again soon. But am planning my Marvin the Martian for Space Coast. :)

Oh man!!! You must have been dying in that costume! It was SO HOT that night! Major props to you! You look adorable! So unique too!

I went as Maleficent to ToT - black running skirt, purple and black running top, kids-length black cape, and Maleficent headpiece. The headpiece actually wasn't too bad. It was the cape that drove me nuts, trapping the heat and sweat on my back. Ugh! I will never run in a cape again! ;) It was fun to be all dressed up though! I loved the responses from the crowd - "Go Maleficent!" It was awesome!

For the Tink Half this year, I was a pink fairy (my avatar) with wings and a pink sparkle skirt. The wings were really no bother at all secured to my back in several places with safety pins. ( Kelly from Team Sparkle has a great tutorial on her blog about how to attach wings for running. )

Royal Family 5K - Mom and I dressed as Minnie Mouse with pink tutus, black tops, and princess Minnie ears. We made our own tutus and they turned out cute, but really bulky. I was glad we weren't going a longer distance in those! ;)

Princess Half - Cinderella - blue tank and blue tutu with white fabric swags and white arm sleeves (ditched the sleeves after about a mile! LOL!) black ribbon choker and blue headband. Liked this costume, but again felt the tutu was a little bulkier than I wanted. If I were to do it again, I would wear a blue sparkle skirt instead.

I've never dressed up for any other races I've done. I'm thinking about doing a Halloween Half, so I need for sure need a costume for that one! Then for Tink, I'll probably do the pink fairy again for the 10k since I already have the pieces, and come up with something else for the Half. Maybe Peter Pan? Smee? I don't know. Sorry this post ended up so long!!! I didn't intend to write a novel!

My dream costume is a pace-activated shirt that, when a certain speed is reached, a hidden flap drops down to reveal a picture of Beast. ie, beast mode?
