Hyacinth-Not a popular bulb, they take a back-seat to tulips and daffodil in the spring.
I have some that have been in my gardens for years and years. They have the most magnificent aroma. There is no other spring bulb the gives your yard that sweet smell of spring. I do need to dig them up every couple of years and divide them, if not the become scrawny and have a tendency to deplete the soil. The year after dividing I am rewarded with beautiful hyacinths again.
Hyacinths grow to heights of 4-8 inches. They should be planted 4 inches apart and 4-5 inches deep. They like sun and a soil that rich and light.
They are a lovely addition to a rock garden. I plant mine in circles of 3-4 bulbs. Again I can only say, I love the aroma of these flowers. Mine are planted around my deck area. When I walk out the door the first think I can smell is the hyacinths.
